I'm in a bit of a bind and don't know what to do so I decided to bring this issue up here and ask for advice. Just like the heading reads, I received that amount of Bitcoin from an unknown address and don't know what to do about it. Should I spend it or let it be?

I don't believe you will just receive 65 BTC's from an unknown address, anyone sending that sort of amount should do the right thing and send it to the correct address, post the transaction id here if you want anyone to take you seriously.

The decision is left for you to make: where did you receive the money, your exchange address or a personal wallet that you have total control of? If you know you are not expecting money from anyone and you are sure the money did not belong to you and you are also not the type that takes what belongs to others, I think the best thing for you to do is to send it back to the sender. You can trace back who ever sent the coin from the transaction history, then you can get the wallet address, and you can just send it back to where it came from. If this is actually true, it's a lot of money to even come out in the open and be announced, and this kind of money can give one a lot of positive thinking, so it's now left for you to choose what to do with it.

Is the wallet where you received the bitcoins a " watching-only" wallet? Did you make the bitcoin wallet ( not address) yourself or from somebody else? Because if is it, someone is trying to scam you.

Post the transaction ID and sign message using the wallet address that received the funds or this never happened. How come receiving huge amount is a problem to you. You can send it back to the address that sent it to you if you are bothered or use mixer to have a privacy to that amount. If this is true, You will not gonna make a public post about it since you are just attracting scammers that will claim ownership for that amount.

If you feel you're quite normative and have morals, then just return it to the sender's address. If not, then spend it, but there are usually consequences at a later date. Pay attention first to what address it came from, because it is difficult to identify the owner if it is from a hot exchange wallet and and requires additional processing to recover it.

It sounds like a fairy tale because someone will send 65 bitcoins to your wallet and you will receive it. But if this is true then you will keep the 65 bitcoins you received in your wallet and spend it on your future needs.

Wow 65 BTC is over $1.6 million, I agree he'll have to prove that he did receive it even a screenshot will do, or he'll just take us for a ride, but if you really receive that amount, you'll have to investigate the address by checking all the transactions and what other addresses it is associated, we never know if it comes from terrorists. You could be in trouble if it is linked to bad addresses like hackers and scammers, but if is not wait for a few days, and if they send it by mistake they are going to trace you and contact you.

First it is tricky to actually decide on what do currently, because one it could be a stolen funds looking at how huge this is and probably the thief went through something like a mixer. So the first thing to do is to wait a little bit and check the public key or address from which the funds came from since everything is recorded on the public ledger this will give you the idea of how that address sends out this funds. If coincidentally the address actually sends similar funds to multiple address like yours then I will advise you to wait a little bit maybe some information will come out. I doubt this is just a serial mistake of copying wrong address considering the number of bitcoin involved. And if you hastily send out this coins back now you might be aiding a thief or you yourself getting into a hacking scam

I believe this to be the biggest lie I've read of on this forum In the last 3 or more years, to be sincere, anybody who owns up to 65 bitcoin is not a newbie, and should know the basics of safely sending crypto so he or she does not end up making a mistake as this, it is unheard of that any body in time past sent 1 bitcoin to a wrong address by mistake, not to talk of you receiving 65 bitcoin from an unknown address.. If you must be taken seriously, then I will advice you share the transaction ID here for everyone to see, otherwise, I will just see this as one big fat lie, and solely for the purpose of making us to believe you are an honest person, as well as earn merit.

Personally it's not a tough decision for me because I'd just not touch it. With the way hackers are on the loose, it's possible that you've just received BTC that a hacker was trying to move to another address and unfortunately or fortunately as the case maybe, must have entered yours. It's a huge amount and I understand your dilemma, OP, but I think I'd consider this option or possibly send it back. Your call.

This sounds strange to me. How could someone make such a mistake with such a large sum of Bitcoin? Although it is feasible, it is unlikely, because anyone with such a large sum of Bitcoin is a savvy Bitcoin investor who would never make a mistake like transferring Bitcoin to an unknown address. Nonetheless, you can be generous and see whether the Bitcoin's owner responds. But I'm remaining suspicious of this scenario because it sounds odd to me. If you are prepared to return back the Bitcoin, I am sure anyone claiming to be the sender will have to produce transaction data from Blockchair to claim the Bitcoin.

I follow the rule: your keys, your crypto, so do whatever you want with them. Assuming, of course, that this situation is true, because it's hard to believe that someone sends such an amount to an unknown address. If this happened to me, it is an amount that would definitely allow me to change my current life and I would not hesitate for a moment to properly manage these funds. I would pay taxes honestly, then buy a new house, a car, and invest the rest.

Wait! Do you mean 65 USDT? Because I'm sure at times it could be a typographical error by the way, or maybe it could be in the dream that you received 65Btc and you are yet to wake up and discover it was a mere dream.🤣🤣 By the way, do you know how much 1 Btc is currently? Not to mention a whole 65. 1 BTC is equal to $25,000 currently (14th June 2023) So, 65 BTC is equal to 65 X $25,000 = $1,625,000 (i.e 1.6 million dollars) And here you are claiming someone sent you a whole $1.6million just for nothing, of which all I can say is that please, stop lying my friend because if you did go to school to study how to lie, I'm sorry to say that with this title of yours, you have gone far beyond your curriculum because not even Satoshi, Elon Musk or the president of the United States of America could give any random user such huge amount of fund unless you are a hacker and you hacked into an exchange to steal their funds. Because I think there is another side of the story you are not telling us here.

I just can't stop my self from reading your post saying i just received 65 BTC, i mean really, where is the transaction detail, can you prove yourself or are you just bluffing because it's looks like you just wants to attract some attention here but mate let me tell you. You do not need to create such scenarios which looks like lies as you can still get attention.
But if you do really received 65 BTC, then its a good news for you, but be assure from where you had received them are they white or black (i hope you understand) do no try to withdraw them from CEX because if they are black then you might be questioned by Authorities near you. (It's just my thought i am not asking you to do it) but if you do want to return it to the real owner be aware of that too because they would get in some problem if they are that rich. Its upto to give them back or not because who are we to tell you,. If you are a man of morality and does not care about money then you should give them back but before returning it to them make a public announcement and share the news with News companies and on social media and you can get famous by using this scenario as i think its a big news. But still, if i were you, i would give them back no wonder my life would become more easy but still its not my money someone mistakenly send it to you so i would prefer to give it to them but i would also try to get some fame because that's at least i could do. (at the end it all depends on you)

Guy, I hope you are not living in fantasy right now, regardless, I have two options for you. 1. Follow your Church mind: By this, you send back the entire money to the sender's Bitcoin address, after all, it's not your money and you have access to the details of the sender. 2. Follow your Church mind with a little alteration: With this, you might send only 64 BTC and keep the remaining 1 BTC as the inconvenience fee. I can only imagine the psychological issues going on with you on this money right now, so for the inconvenience caused by the person's mistake, let such pay for it. Ordinarily in court, if you have a good lawyer, such a person might still be compelled to credit you with something for the inconvenience of receiving such an amount that will never be yours by mistake that has caused you psychological issues. Conclusion: These are the best deals anyone could go for. After all, over 50% of people would disappear with the money, yet you are not stealing it but sending it back. Above all, let your spirit guide you.

An individual who would send that much money using BTC will definitely double-check and triple-check the address before confirming. If he still made a mistake after that, he really is careless. He will not get the BTC back whoever he may complain. But the OP's story however may not be true though. Like anyone above, they would appreciate it if there is a tx ID and his inbox will really be a party if he posts it. If I got the 65BTC, I would wait if someone claims it and strike a deal.

If you are an honest man, maybe you should return the bitcoin to the sending address. I’m just trying to think if you could morally deduct between 1 & 5 bitcoin before returning the 60 bitcoin. I will leave that decision up to you (if this is even true of course).
Can you sign a message from the receiving address to show that this is genuine?

You should already know what is the right thing to do, asking people about it would just mislead you further. In any case, anyone receiving any amount by mistake should post both receiving and sending addresses on social media, forums etc, to make it easier for the rightful owner to find you, then after making sure he/she controls the sending address, you should give him back all without taking 1 satoshi, the owner would give you a tip if he wants.
You might even want to ask him how much should you keep as a prize before returning them, and he might out of fear of loosing all of his coins tell you an amount which he is not satisfied to give whatsoever just to keep you happy and take some of his money back.
Doing something good has any worth if you do it with no expectation from people, God will make it up to you in a way that would result much better than doing good expecting something in return.😉
Enough of ethical lessons, are you going to share some of that free loot or what? Come on man, this is a community ship, we share and care. Lol.
The topic is a hot bed for swarms of sig posters. 😉

It's up to you how you choose to handle it, but if you want to avoid trouble, it would be best to return that large amount to the sender's address. You never know if it's dirty money, and once you send it to exchanges, your identity may be compromised, and the owner or investigating authorities might come after you.
While there are ways to mix that BTC using a Bitcoin mixer, as I mentioned earlier, it's still safer to stay out of trouble.
Just to provide an update on the thread with the current amount of BTC, 65 BTC is currently equivalent to $1,689,000 USD as of this typing.
