Are these flaws of SMF forum software?

I know individually, I can customize my profile settings to ignore users or ignore avatars and signatures.

• Add a user into my Ignore list
• Don't show users' avatars.
• Don't show users' signatures.

I still see posts of my ignored users if

• Someone quoted posts of the ignored user.
• I visit a post history page of the ignored user.

I still see avatars and signatures of forum members, any member, if I visit that user profile page. My avatar is disabled in topics, posts but it still shows at top left corner.

My guess: It is because of flaws of the SMF forum software but I'd like to ask

• Is it the SMF forum software flaw?
• Is it coded intentionally by bitcointalk admins?

Check this thread^[1] answers its the latest open discussion as this were discussed so many times.

It's self-explanatory, it only works in topic threads since its the main purpose of the forum — to discuss. Don't visit user profiles then.

As this were discussed too many times this suggestions were suggested so many times as well. Actually, this current SMF version cannot be upgraded to the latest one because this forum software is customized for the forum's needs, like trust feedback, merits, etc.
But most of this suggestions ^{(i guess)} can be implemented on the forum software that is under development for many years now.

Yes these suggestions can be implemented on the forum software which has been in development for many years now. But the question is when will this development end? Since my registration in the forum, I have been hearing about the new version of the forum, but so far nothing!!!

Sorry that my question is off topic, but I am curious to know that because many of the problems that are raised in the Meta section can be solved quite easily in the new version, but unfortunately there is no news.

But why? There's no point in denying a user to read someone's post history if he clicks on it.
If there's anything that needs patching, is that you can't Merit a post on an ignored board. That's an actual flaw that confused many (established) members.

If you don't want to see your own avatar: remove it! Why would the rest of us have to see it if you don't even want it?

You are looking for the feature to block users, which is not supported in the forum, you can ignore users, which is closer to mute feature in many social networking applications.You can customize your experience using the userscript, where you can hide the avatar or even remove posts from a specific member instead of hiding them, but I don't know if there is a userscript with these properties, so you might to pay a developer.

I am not sure if this issue is because of the old version as the forum version is 1.1.19, whereas the newest version released is 2.0.16. I am not sure whether a patch would stop this problem, you may give it a try.

Regarding the issue of ignored users' posts still being visible when quoted by others, I think it only ensures the context of discussions is preserved.

And for the visibility of avatars and signatures on a user's profile page, it does make sense to respect the individual settings of each user.

Maybe because am not the type that do ignore often, I don't seem to get familiar with this features actually, but to those that make use of the ignore button would have many encounters of the likes, but i expect not to be able to view any related quote, signature or avatar of any member on ignore list, ignore could mean having nothing to do with the user irrespective of how they have been active or contributing to the forum, because most users on ignore list were either scammers or shitposters.

I also have a similar habit of not ignoring any user because I don't really care about the ones who often do shit-posting or use bad words in conversations because in life if we have to face such people then why not on this forum? As far as I know that we often try to ignore the users whom we don't trust or who can cause some problems for us. I would rather not reply to the ones who do shit-posts rather than ignoring them because it's not necessary to ignore all those whom you don't like.

Now back to the OP, I don't think that new patch would solve that issue, and it isn't a bad thing to view Avatar and personal text of the ignored users because the Avatar and personal text doesn't really matter a lot when you're not reading a reply done by the users that you added in your ignore list.

I don't get it why you would need a patch for this, but it's easy to disable all images in your web browser settings and read all forum in text-only mode.
There are even special browsers that work only in text mode, and they are used for people with slow internet connections.
Avatars is already easy to hide for everyone with settings you can find in bitcointalk account.

I know but I mainly noted that issue to question that it is intentionally coded or it is because of SMF forum software and can not modify it with code.

In Bitcointalk, I know I can have some text visibility like these followings, but I don't want to use them. I just tried when I'm making this post, I like wap2 option but it is for reading only. I can not reply with such modes. The print page (show all) option looks good but again, it is reading mode.

Avatars is already easy to hide for everyone with settings you can find in bitcointalk account.

• I can disable avatars and signatures of forum members with my account settings. It is what you meant.
• Unfortunately, if I click on one account and go to its profile, avatar and signature shows. It is not what I want when I hang out and at public places.

It can be a patch or something but the flaw here is that once it is posted now by another user, technically, you are seeing now the poster's post and not the ignored one initially so it's under the member who quoted it now, and not the blocked person. I think it can be done with a patch for sure. Let's see what happens with the future of this forum.

Maybe you could ignore it yourself and just filter it? Since it's not yet done?

Software does what its code says it should do. The forum software we’re using (SMF) doesn’t have a code to check if a quote was made by a user you have blocked. Yes, you could say it’s a design flaw, since the SMF developers could have thought about that.

I would love to try writing a script for that, but I’m traveling and don’t have a laptop with me… maybe when I eventually go back home.

I will like to ask since it is a designed flaw doesn't that mean the developers deliberately left the code and it could as well be a positive bug?. My concern is that if the quote in question is not done by the said user who is ignored but by another user who is not on the ignored list then the user can read the quote and forget about that of the ignored user, or instead if another code should be written to fix this then the user should see the quote and that of the ignored user becomes blocked or invisible.

 And I was thinking what if the quoter has an information a wider audience needs to see and since he is quoting a user who is on some other users ignore list the quote will not be displayed especially if someone else didn't quote the useful information.
