I probably won't do it like you, I mean, I'll probably just use bitcoin for online orders or high value items and can't use fiat. For items like daily necessities, I don't want to use bitcoin because I have to pay unnecessary transaction fees. Furthermore, because of its volatility, I don't want to use it every day. I don't want to use bitcoin to pay when its volatility makes me pay more, whereas with fiat I won't lose anything. To be honest, bitcoin is no longer suitable to be a currency because of its volatility, it is more suitable as an asset.

I don't think there is any restaurant like this in US or European countries right now, which can sell you food for bitcoins.

Have you tried reading people's posts right after the OP's question? There are plenty of places where people will happily accept bitcoins and give you food as long as you are solvent. Sometimes it is useful to read about what, all the same, there is a discussion about.
But as for the topic itself, at the moment I don’t see the need to pay with bitcoins for a cup of coffee or a bowl of soup. But I would definitely treat my friends to in good restaurant with payment in bitcoins. Spending Bitcoin on cheap food doesn't seem very sensible to me.

Thanks for letting me know, actually I guessed it from the conditions of my country but after doing research now it's clear that condition in other countries are totally different and people are willing to accept in shops and restaurants too

average price of Coffee in many countries are 2$-4$ according to google and i think it still cheap and I will not like to pay less than 20$. Bitcoin lightning network is then best suitable option buying cheap food.

I have seen some places that accept Bitcoin. Like a burger place I went to the other day, but it was run by a private individual who accepted bitcoin for payments, and in a cab recently as well. But in these threads I always say the same thing:

It would be nice to avoid Fiat altogether and use BTC to buy our life necessities.

What are you going to do? Save the fiat and spend the Bitcoin? It doesn't make sense. The only way it would make sense is if you get all or most of your income in Bitcoin, to avoid converting to fiat so you can spend but not even 1% of people are in that situation.

Do you know of any restaurants and/or supermarkets in the US and abroad that sells food for BTC? It would be nice to avoid Fiat altogether and use BTC to buy our life necessities. The only place I could think of is El Salvador with its acceptance of Bitcoin as legal tender. It's likely every merchant and business there accepts BTC as payment method. I don't know about the US and developed countries. Could someone enlighten me? Thanks in advance. Smiley

I never thought of buying products that have cheap prices with bitcoins. Transaction fees will look very expensive for transactions under $200. Especially if every time you pay you have to wait for the transaction to be confirmed by the network, it takes a long time. Even though I love bitcoin, in some cases, using bitcoin is not a solution but a new problem.

But I'm not against your wish to find a restaurant that can pay with bitcoins. In my country bitcoin is banned as a means of payment and can only be owned as an asset so I can't recommend anything to you. But if I may ask, wouldn't you find it expensive to buy a cheap product with a transaction fee of around $0.5? In my opinion using fiat is cheaper and free of transaction fees if you use the same bank network
It feels so good for op to spend btc to buy things he is interested on, I'm sure he is already aware of the transaction fee , as far as op  can afford it he is free of spending btc the way he wants. After all btc is money that can also be spent like other currency.  People have different plans what to do with their btc.

You can only find Bitcoins accepted in restaurants, if those restaurants are in countries where Bitcoins are legalised. In many countries Bitcoins are not regulated, hence the restaurant owners can’t set up a payment through Bitcoins. They need follow the rules set by the government. Yes it’s common to see small businesses accepting Bitcoins in the countries like El Salvador, as there, they encourage the usage of the coins.

There aren't any stores in my area that accept bitcoin payments, but honestly, I wouldn't be willing to do that if we could use bitcoin for payment. I don't want to pay more while making money is getting harder and harder, and inflation is suffocating us. It makes no sense when we have to spend extra money just to use bitcoin. This really goes against our savings plan. Bitcoin is more suitable as an asset than a currency, why are people so stubborn about it?

Yes, for occasional purchases, $0.7 might not be a problem. But if I make purchases frequently enough, like eating 3x a day, $0.7 is going to be a serious problem for me. especially for me it only takes $3 for a meal so $0.7 is a lot as it seems like 20% of my meal cost.

You gave an example of transactions that are below $200, and now you mention transactions of $3 that are in the category of micro transactions and it definitely does not make sense to use Bitcoin on-chain transactions for payment in such conditions if the fee is in the amount of 5-10% of the total amount and if you do several such transactions per day.

Btw, sorry if this is off topic, but honestly I'm curious if bitcoins are effective for everyday purchases? Maybe someone who has lived in a country where bitcoin is legal as a means of payment can share their experience with bitcoin. I have a thought that bitcoins are not effective for everyday purchases due to high transaction fees and busy network so they often get delayed but that is just my opinion, I have never had any real experience using bitcoins for daily transactions.
~snip~

In such situations, we have the option to pay using LN, which is instant and cheap, and in the examples of El Salvador or the island of Boracay, we see that it works. Of course, users need to be further educated with such a payment method, but the payment process through LN has already been simplified quite a bit when it comes to certain wallets that support it.

I just saw this post and I don't think yelp.com has been mentioned. I recommend looking into it specially if you're in the US because afaik it is most used in the said country.

As you can see, they have an "Accepts Cryptocurrency" filter you can use.

The problem is, there is no bitcoin specific filter but you could always ask the restaurant prior to your visit. My guess is there's a good chance a lot of them accept BTC since it's the most popular.

Lastly, since LN has been mentioned as well, there's a really good directory for it, see: https://lightningnetworkstores.com/?tags=food

So far I have never been to El Salvador and tried in-person bitcoin payments at a restaurant. Maybe this will happen to me in the future especially when I find a restaurant that accepts bitcoin as a means of payment - but I tend to keep the secret that I am a bitcoin user.

I don't care until when I have to use fiat to pay - it's not a big deal because fiat will always be accepted everywhere. Bitcoin is great for adoption - but I wouldn't prioritize it as a means of payment so far. Bitcoin is an alternative option for me - meaning it's probably the last option I would use if I didn't want to involve fiat as a means of payment.

My area has several restaurants and shopping places that provide payment by Bitcoin, but I have never done that, because the restaurant provides two payment methods fiat and Bitcoin.

However, I once asked my friend, you pay for food in a restaurant with Bitcoin, he said yes, but from a good point of view, we don't need cash, but on the downside there are also, such as higher fees, sometimes the food we buy at restaurants is cheaper than Bitcoin transaction fees, my friend said if we buy in large quantities, maybe Bitcoin payments are better, but if you buy food for 1-2 people, it's better to pay using cash / fiat.

Conclusion: from the experience that I have seen and my friends, buying food in large quantities may be good with Bitcoin, Bitcoin payments for food depend on what food is purchased, not all food can be paid for with Bitcoin, considering that the cost is more expensive than the food purchased.

If there's only one place where you can buy almost anything with BTC, that would be El Salvador. That's assuming every business and/or merchant accepts the cryptocurrency there.

It would be nice to visit El Salvador just to live the dream of living only on Bitcoin. You will get the freedom you deserve without worrying about inflation, or bad decisions from both the central bank and the government. Who knows if future generations will be able to buy food with BTC at a supermarket or restaurant anywhere in the world? Just my opinion Smiley

My impression is that a place where you can more or less live with Bitcoin alone is basically experimental, at least for now. I think an economy that is solely revolving around Bitcoin remains imaginary. At this point in time, Bitcoin's level of adoption is not yet ripe for it.

I went to what is called the Bitcoin island here in my country. Indeed, you can pay your food, drinks, hotel, tattoo, and others with Bitcoin. However, just as probably true in El Salvador, Bitcoin remains an alternative to fiat.

There's a reason why despite Bukele's strong support for Bitcoin, he simply can't replace the USD with it. The best that he could do is to declare Bitcoin as another legal tender, alongside the USD.

How much food are you going to buy to make your one time purchase worth it? I would not want to spend 3$ on food and use half a dollar to make payment, if I go out to but food at a restaurant in my country the charges is like 0.10$ or even lower in my fiat to dollar rate.

It's cool to order food using Bitcoin but if I have to do it I will have to buy foods, not just the little that will fill up my stomach, maybe 10$ or 20$ worth of food, this won't make me feel like I am spending too much on the transaction for food.
I think he doesn't care about the fees at all so any amount of purchase will do to him because he said what important for him is to completely get rid of the fiat. For us who only want to try it because we are curious how it works and we think it's cool, we still mind the fees and we want to make sure that each transaction we make are worth it.

I'm literally like you actually so I think I will bring a company to eat in a restaurant if its about food. If not, I will just buy a two-week or a month-long worth of grocery. Unfortunately, there are no Bitcoin merchants yet in my place. The one that I know are from a far away places like I need to ride a plane or a boat first in order to get there.

I think the main issue is Bitcoin's price volatility. If it wasn't because of that, governments would've ditched Fiat already. Yet again, they'll be losing power/control over people's financial life. Given the circumstances, BTC will remain an alternative to Fiat forever.

At least, we won't be left "empty handed". As long as it's possible to spend BTC for food somewhere, nothing else matters. With Bitcoin's ever-rising popularity, I'm pretty sure there will be more merchants and/or businesses accepting it in the future. Who knows if they will use the Lightning Network for cheap and near-instant BTC payments? Just my opinion Smiley

I don't know why the belief that only the United States or El Salvador are the only places where bitcoin is accepted or, to top it off, the first world countries.

I can tell you that there are places (Global) where they accept bitcoin via Binance, e.g.. that is, you could pay with any crypto, it's obvious.

Nowadays you can pay with bitcoin anywhere in the world, literally, obviously you have to get the right place, not everyone puts out the ads.

On the other hand, it does not make you a better bitcoin user to pay strictly with bitcoin, the fact of trading with bitcoin helps, so in some countries arbitration allows significant gains.

In fact, that same situation is what has made many commercial establishments accept bitcoin, they earn with the subsequent trade of bitcoin to Fiat or cryptos such as USDT, sometimes it is not that they are adopting bitcoin for their premises or it is the alternative means of payment, No, they just see profit.

The adoption of BTC for payments is a very delicate subject. After all, merchants and/or businesses don't want to be flagged as tax evaders by the government. Those that let their customers know they accept BTC, it's probably because they accept Fiat on the side. A Bitcoin-only business will bring unwanted attention by the government itself. At least, Bitcoin holders are not left "empty-handed".

I don't mind if the merchant converts BTC to Fiat, as long as he accepts it as payment method. One way or another, this benefits the crypto economy. I'd say most businesses accepting BTC are those without a physical presence (online). This is normal, since Bitcoin is still in the early days. Once the Lightning Network takes off, we might see BTC being accepted almost everywhere (grocery stores, restaurants, gas stations, etc). Who knows what the future will bring to long-term BTC holders like me? Just my opinion Smiley
