There are several different types of Bitcoin clients. The most secure are full nodes like Bitcoin Core, which will follow the rules of the network no matter what miners do. Even if every miner decided to create 1000 bitcoins per block, full nodes would stick to the rules and reject those blocks.

The more I study bitcoin, the more I understand that it is a record holder in everything and not a single altcoin even comes close to its values. Do not sell your valuable coins. HODL!!!

Surely, the more you study, the more you understand about the current and past history of bitcoin and even other altcoins. However, it makes me believe that there are some coins that we think are trash, which is not the truth, and those coins also need to be hoarded because they may generate money that we don't expect.

However, it surprises me when I see the money you mentioned, which gives me the idea of holding on to my valuable coins for a very long period of time. However, those who bought those coins have benefited from it because they have made a profit that they did not even think of.

This is a wonderful reminder. I can’t help but say that past event like this only makes one anticipate heavily what the future holds.

Events like this only bring some certain questions to my mind;

How many of these people were patient to hold till the time it pumped to a significant amount, or the fear of losing caused them to sell so early.

How do they take care of there holdings without losing it to scammers or losing the keys and yet to find it

Certainly this are not just question but also some recommendations as to we the future holders.

The crypto community often discusses various generous airdrops that developers pay for early use of the platform, for testing wallets/networks and other features. So what is the most generous airdrop ever for cryptocurrencies? Is it some kind of altcoin, token, NFT? No, it was bitcoin.

For testing bitcoin transactions in 2009, testers were paid 25 BTC. At the moment it is more than $700,000, and 2 years ago this airdrop cost more than $1,500,000.

The more I study bitcoin, the more I understand that it is a record holder in everything and not a single altcoin even comes close to its values. Do not sell your valuable coins. HODL!!!

I think I was in my final year of college and having no personal computer or laptop that time. At the same time, I was part-time working at a clothing apparel store co-owned by my mom and aunt from the United States.

I didn’t even have a smartphone and was using only a keypad one. I’ve got zero knowledge and awareness about Bitcoin that time. I only knew how to play DOTA when I have free time in a gaming shop.

God I know how this feels but it is what it is. Early adopters and testers are getting blessed and rewarded at the end.

However, it makes me believe that there are some coins that we think are trash, which is not the truth, and those coins also need to be hoarded because they may generate money that we don't expect.
The difference is that BTC has use cases and utility, it is useful for different purposes and the owner of the coins can decide the use case to adopt, but most of the altcoins after it do not have utility, that is why if you think holding altcoins for the long term is a good idea because of BTC history, i will say no, except you identify an altcoin that has a unique utility and you believe in their roadmap, if not, sell your altcoins whenever you get revenue from them.
However, those who bought those coins have benefited from it because they have made a profit that they did not even think of.
I don't think many of them held the coins for too long, they would have sold even after the first pump they experienced, and so many also probably lost their keys because BTC wasn't valuable then, so they didn't store it safely.

This is not another airdrop it must be the most valued airdrop in the history.

I wonder how many of them actually managed to receive that airdrop because when I am searched for it there is no information regarding that so I am gonna keep digging until I find that. Cheesy

For testing bitcoin transactions in 2009, testers were paid 25 BTC. At the moment it is more than $700,000, and 2 years ago this airdrop cost more than $1,500,000.

And in a few years, it will be possible to say that "the most generous airdrop in the crypto history" is now worth $25,000,000? In 2009, this reward was worth almost nothing. That is, in fact, at that time it was the smallest airdrop, because the testers received almost nothing and it was more like a symbolic reward, how to say thank you.

Another point. This was the first airdrop among cryptocurrencies (the rest of the altcoins started much later, which gave a huge head start to bitcoin) and if you rank "The most generous airdrop in the crypto history", then you need to compare the value of assets (altcoin, token, NFT, which you are talking about) over a period of about 14 years (2009-2023). Such a comparison is not entirely accurate in reality.

Truly Bitcoin is indeed a record holder.  In all ways, I can see the output to be far surpassing which no other coin or alt can be compared to.
For record purposes, Bitcoin has the best airdrop record of all time. There has never been a coin that grew in price the way Bitcoin did years back. Others did  airdropped at high price and gradually faded away but Bitcoin dropped low and grew up with time and today it has made a name for itself on the blockchain which no other can achieve. I was wondering if there are still holders who held since the very first day they received theirs till this very moment.

Notwithstanding, when I looked at your upload, the year I saw took me back to when I was still very young then as  a student. Although I had internet knowledge but I never heard about Bitcoin then because if I had such knowledge then, hopefully I would have tapped into it as an early adopter. Possibly  if not as earlier as then, maybe as time went on then but it is still not too late I am here. I have learnt alot the time I have spent on blockchain and on this platform.

Thanks for this article of yours. It reflects days of early beginnings.

It will take strong faith in Bitcoin for those people who received the 25BTC airdrop to hodl till date. They wouldn't have been able to overcome several faith-shaking FUD. For those that kept the faith, their profit is a motivation for us to keep hodling. In the future, we might look back and say that the Bitcoins we are earning or buying currently are like airdrops because the price will be what most of us might not be able to afford.

Smiley
However, it makes me believe that there are some coins that we think are trash, which is not the truth, and those coins also need to be hoarded because they may generate money that we don't expect.

Most altcoins' price follows the movement of the price of Bitcoin. There might be some coins that have such potential but why go for copycats when you already know the original? To keep increasing my Bitcoin hodling is my only option instead of taking an extra risk on altcoin.

Honestly this is a nice discovery, no wonder every other coin in cryptocurrency is regarded as a plagiarized copy of bitcoin, this include all memecoins, tokens, airdrops, everything all begins with bitcoin, maybe this will also help in understanding the reason why bitcoin is reagarded as the most acceptable digital currency and the king of cryptocurrencies, if bitcoin had only exist maybe there couldn't have been more of cryptocurrency scam we had with altcoins, bitcoin remains the only reliable cryptocurrency to be accepted as a legal means of making payments or a unit of store of value, i wonder how much those airdrops would have amount to worth today for it holders.

Well, in as much as 25 bitcoins is no child's play at the moment, and getting them for free today in a supposed airdrop will sure be the airdrop with the highest value in history, but i cant say same for it for way back 2009, in 2009, 25 bitcoins were worth nothing, and those who got it probably did nothing with it, its either they did not take bitcoin serious since its worth nothing, and because of this, loss access to their wallet, or they sold and a withdraw the money as soon as the price of bitcoin hit $0.5 dollars(50 cents), which ever be the case for a benefactor of the airdrop in both sceneries i mentioned be, the fact is that the airdrop didn't benefit them, except there be any among those who got the airdrop and luckily are still holding, then such a person can indeed say that the airdrop is the highest in history for him or her.

I am just a kind of person who believes in the value of something when its given or earned, not the value in the future, to call an airdrop the most valuable in history, it has to be worth the said value at the time the airdrop was given or earned, not based on future value.

It's a great example, definitely a great airdrop, but how many people were aware of bitcoin in 2009?
Yes, people were given 25 bitcoin, but that was probably worth less than $25. You could literally skip a meal and get that. If you knew about bitcoin when it was sub $1 it was a strike of luck, like winning the lottery. All you had to do is get some from a faucet or ask someone to send it to you and forget about it. 10 years later you're a millionaire Cheesy

I'd say that one of the best if not the best widely available airdrop was BCH.
Imagine that you were in bitcoin in 2010, 2011, or 2021, when you could buy 1 bitcoin for less than $5, so spending $500 would give you over 100 bitcoin.
In 2018 that would give you 100 BCH for free that you'd be able to sell for $1k a piece, earning 100k for literally nothing, as a reward for holding your bitcoin.

BTC airdrop today will not be that huge anymore. It's impossible to happen these days. But during that time they were saying that Faucets was sending 5BTC per claim. You could only wish you were active during that time and had kept those coins as well.

There are tons of airdrops since 2016, they only require to join the telegram channel. The 400 UNI that was airdropped to its first users I think is also generous enough for me. Especially if you have used Uniswap with a few other ETH wallets you have.

HODL!!!

Cool, but are you sure it happened on the mainnet and not on the testnet? Or mainnet before the launch? First Bitcoin transaction took place on January 12, 2009 but I can see 03/01/2009 in the screenshot. So these dummy coins have no value? Correct me if I'm wrong...

That a good piece of information you have shared here dear OP. And i think those testers are the most luckiest people on the earth if they still have those BTC because that how they are valuable if they are forgotten or lost then they are waste i think. But, the amount of airdrop is a lot and if they have hold it as you said in the last that we should hodl. Then only we can become rich. Once i saw a picture on Tiktok video so i just cropped it by taking SS and here it is:

This piece of photo also conveying the same message that if those who have hold the BTC from the early days to till now or for at least 5 years they must have become billionaire now. That's why i said they are the luckiest people on earth. I hope we come to get that chance but i don't know about technology at that time even there was no internet in my area at that time. I think at that time 2008 i might be in Kindergarten maybe or maybe just not started studies yet. I don't know exactly but there was no way that i could come to know about BTC at that time. But i am grateful that, i at least came to know about it in 2018 and then i joined this platform in 2021 and now i have more knowledge than before more BTC than before and they are keep adding and i wish that addition will never stop. And i am applying the only formula of holding.

Wow, getting 25 BTC and holding them until now can certainly be making someone really rich, enough to change someone's financial life for the better most especially if one is based in a developing country like mine. I never knew Bitcoin until around 2013 so I am already late in this opportunity. I also remember those days when Bitcoin faucets were then giving away up to 5 BTCs but then again because I got weak hands I would not probably be not holding them until now.

There is no doubt that back in the early days there were many opportunities to make a lot of bitcoins and eventually make a lot of money if you could held them.

However we need to also take into account the context in which this happened, even if the early adopters were enthusiastic about bitcoin many probably thought that it will take bitcoin way more time to reach its current levels, and as such the incentive to sell early was also there, so while many early adopters kept their coins and became millionaires, many others sold or lost their coins and now they regret their decision.

If we were to consider its price at that time though, it wasn't the most generous. It was very easy to earn Bitcoin back then. Mining reward was as high as 50BTC and it can be done with a laptop. But if we are to consider its future value, it was probably one of the most generous.

But I guess there were many unrecorded Bitcoin giveaways, gifts, donations, or whatever that's higher than that. If Laszlo could easily give away 10,000BTC in mid-2010 for just two pizzas, how much more in 2009? If Gavin in 2010 easily donated a total of almost 20,000BTC to be given away just for solving a captcha, how much more the donations in early 2009 when Bitcoin didn't even have a price yet? Even on this forum, there were users who donated as big as 50BTC. But that wasn't much back then.

Back then Bitcoin was pretty much useless so the value of the airdrop was $0. So you can’t say it’s similar to the airdrops we have today.

From what I recall Uniswap, dydx, arb all had crazy large airdrops just for testing out the platform. Some even had 5 figures worth of airdrops. This is why we got so many Sybil farmers which are trying to game the zksync and layer zero airdrops coming up.
