A lady crypto holder is complaining that her Ledger wallet was hacked and she lost thousands of XRP. She's not that experienced with crypto, she says it herself. First, if you check her various videos, you will understand that Ledger wallet hacking is very common, but if you watch her other videos, you will understand that she purchased Ledger from a third party reseller. She doesn't share her secret phrase with anyone but even after she gets hacked, that leaves a big possibility that her ledger might have been tampered with by the reseller. But she is blaming ledger where the biggest mistake was made by her when she bought ledger wallet from third party.

So crypto users should be more careful in purchasing Ledger wallet. How important it is to always buy from the official website, one should learn from what happened to this lady.

Did she say the reseller's name is abull[dot]com (it's in the few first seconds of the second video)? I'm not sure I got the name correctly, but if it's an official reseller, I would imagine that Ledger could be held accountable?

She said she bought from Bull (dot) com but I couldn't find any shop by that name on Ledger's official reseller list. What I found is that there is an official reseller in the Netherlands called bol (dot) com https://www.ledger.com/reseller . She only mentioned the name of the shop and did not share the website link. She clearly said she purchased from a third party, so I think she didn't purchase the ledger from official resellers, she purchased the ledger from a bad actor. Ledger is not supposed to be responsible here unless it is an official reseller.

If she did not purchase it from an official ledger reseller then it's not any fault of ledger and they can not be held responsible and even if she is not an experienced crypto-currency enthusiast in real life you should be aware that it's best to buy from the direct source than black market or elsewhere.

Another point is I don't know how genuine some of this people are but some just want to trend and create a buzz for themselves with stories .

I find a lot of mystery in her story. If you watch some of her other videos regarding this case of XRP disappearing from her Ledger wallet, you will notice that she isn't overly a tech-savvy person. There is also a subtle hint of conspiracy theory present, like the detail that the coins were transferred precisely at 9:11 AM, and that is something she considers significant. Also, she holds the belief that she might be a targeted individual by the government.  Cool

I do not know, it just seems like a lot of these YouTubers and wannabe influencers make up stuff to get more famous and more views on their channels. Feels like this could be one of those situations.

It is hard to understand the website where she said she bought the ledger wallet which mean the story maybe cook up by her, we don't know the third party seller and she never show to the world her lawsuit paper. Besides, I don't trust the lady statement after she twisted the whole conversation into the idea of increasing her Youtube video view for monetization purpose which I believe is the main reason of her story from the beginning.

Hacking a Ledger is highly unlikely unless the seed phrase is compromised. It's unreasonable to blame Ledger for the hack without investigating further. I haven't watched the video due to time constraints. Purchasing a Ledger from an untrusted source is always risky. If the seed was pre-generated, you'll need to reset the device or discard it. Attempting to use a pre-generated seed on an original device is unwise. Ledger Live verifies device authenticity, but it can't detect seed compromise. Crypto users must be vigilant to safeguard their assets, even when using a hardware wallet.

It wouldn't be surprising if these videos were made for any purpose, or even for monetization, but even new crypto users have a lot to learn from this story about how bad things can happen to them too if they're not careful. And my main purpose of creating this thread is to warn new crypto users. She did not share the link of the shop from which she purchased the Ledger in her video, so the shop she mentioned could not be found online.

Some will learn from the video and some will forget about it without taking any lesson from it but you did a great job by sharing it.

If a cryptocurrency user can spend money to buy a Ledger wallet, but failed to buy it from an official store, it's bad practice and maybe it comes from carelessness as well as willingness to save some money. It's very bad practice because if you want to save money, you can use free non-custodial open source wallets and don't have to spend any money to buy hardware wallets from resellers and get hacked.

I find a lot of mystery in her story.
~snip~

I also find something suspicious here, because the person says that she asked for a new device from Ledger because her HW asked her for a PIN, and I don't see why Ledger would agree to send a new device in exchange for a device that asks for a PIN? In fact, she claims that the difference between the old Nano S+ and the new one was only that on the new device she could see a transaction that she claims was the work of a hacker - who left 10 coins by the way, after stealing several thousand.

This reminds me a little of that woman who recently caused a scandal on the plane and became viral, and nothing surprises me when it comes to 5 minutes of fame, people are ready for anything.

It is really seems that this could be a conspiracy theory. If you noticed how she tell a story, its like she was reading a script or memorizing an act. No wonder people can do crazy stuff just to gain followers and more subscribers. Of course in this case, ledger would be at fault as she intended. But I support your theory with this one. A scenario like this causes like this turns thing viral. Does the incident been investigated already like if shes really act the time and date, location of the hackers. Any details could help to pinpoint to whats really the prpblem or there is none problem at all but made one for the sake of views.

So that means she surely bought the Ledger from a non authorized reseller, and then it was already used by someone and she being a newbie, didn't knew how to make sure that it's not used.
That is the only reason I prefer newbies and beginners to use Exchanges and not become your own bank as the people who used to do mining and stuff in early 2010s were technically knowledge and had an interest, people today in Crypto are just here for the money without any knowledge of how Cryptography or Blockchain works. Please do not ask these people to be their own bank, they will lose instead of making.

What does this thread do in the Beginners & Help section, when it should be in the Hardware wallets section?

In order not to guess, it is enough to transfer the hacked by a possible third party for analysis in order to be sure that this device was forged by the seller. It is unlikely that she will be able to do it herself. Surely there should have been some traces of interference on the printed circuit board.

Resellers should be careful with buying hardware wallets not only with the ledger, but also with any other manufacturer. The fewer intermediaries (ideally, the complete absence) between the seller and the buyer, the more reliable and safer.

In fact, apart from the words of this woman and the video, there is no evidence of what happened. I'm used to believing only facts, so I need a little more than that to be sure Ledger wallet hacked by third party reseller.

If we whip through her latest video, she tries to set some (alleged) events running up to the date of the theft as a ground for there being a possibility that she is "a targeted individual or on some sort of list of the government":

-   XRP is associated to alleged conspiracy theories.
-   The time of theft was 9:11.
-   Some Facebook incident she has 40 days before the alleged hack (she claims to have received an apology from FB for having sent out a bunch of friend requests on her behalf).

She then adds a link to a donation page to "buy her coffee" (at multiples of 5€ a pop).

Honestly, if people had doubts of any kind, this latest video totally discredits herself and, by extension, her case.

A lady crypto holder is complaining that her Ledger wallet was hacked and she lost thousands of XRP. She's not that experienced with crypto, she says it herself. First, if you check her various videos, you will understand that Ledger wallet hacking is very common, but if you watch her other videos, you will understand that she purchased Ledger from a third-party reseller. She doesn't share her secret phrase with anyone but even after she gets hacked, that leaves a big possibility that her ledger might have been tampered with by the reseller. But she is blaming the ledger where the biggest mistake was made by her when she bought the ledger wallet from a third party.

So crypto users should be more careful in purchasing Ledger wallets. How important it is to always buy from the official website, one should learn from what happened to this lady.

Thank you for sharing this great information with us. The lady in question should go back to the third-party reseller where she bought the ledger. The third-party reseller might know what happened to the ledger since she is so sure not to share her seed phrase with anyone. Her video on Youtube might be to increase her view because she mentioned changing her ledger from a third party when the ledger requested a new pin and she did not complain to the third-party reseller that her ledger wallet is hacked.

It might be that she was hacked or maybe she also cooked up the story. Some people can go at length to get whatever they want to get famous. From what I understand she is not telling the truth. Her claims shows that the shop that she bought it from isn't existing like OP stated. And if it is true, ledger isn't to be blamed because she didn't buy it from an official reseller, neither is she a tech savvy person. This is another warning that one should buy whatever he wants to buy from an official site.

Sad but the mistake is on her, prolly she got a Ledger hardware wallet that has preloaded seeds. I don't wanna watch the video since reading some of the comments here is enough and have doubts about her story. Like what they're telling, there are always two sides to the story.
But with her, if the story is real then that means that she should be accounted for her negligence. And with clout chasing nowadays, content creators will create stories that will take internet's attention.

So crypto users should be more careful in purchasing Ledger wallet. How important it is to always buy from the official website, one should learn from what happened to this lady.

There are only 2 things that come to my mind when I read this post.

1. She is dumb to buy Ledger from a third party. (OR)
2. She is framing all of it just to gain attention and views on her videos.

The truth should be one of these for sure.

She’s also got an entry in gofundme, wanting to obtain 5K € (objective) through donations. So far, she’s 20€ in. Going over this page, it seems that she’s from (or located in) Belgium, and searching around, I found the site she referenced and that we couldn’t make out before: bol.com.

There, we can see that the reseller does sell Ledger devices (can’t set the page to English, so I settled for French):
https://www.bol.com/be/fr/s/?searchtext=ledger

The site is really a Netherlands e-commerce platform. The site does seems to have a large segment of business generated through external vendors, though we don’t know if the Ledger device was bought from the mother site or from an external vendor. In either case, the situation would likely be no different to Amazon, where the stock for a same product from different partners may be mixed-up, enhancing the risk further more.

See: https://www.supplychainmovement.com/bol-com-versus-amazon/

Same thoughts here, yeah she could not be well verse in crypto, but for sure she could have a basic understanding on how to take care of a wallet or even where to buy it (legit sellers).

1. there could be suspicions here already
2. specially in the world that we are in today, you can never really know who is telling the truth or who is not in social media. Everyone wants to get that attention and obviously money too for every views.
