You're not far off. The practice of intoxicating the chickens are no longer used though. There are casinos that offer these games, although it must be said that these casinos aren't that well known per se, and they are mostly catering only to their local country like the Philippines who had a dedicated cockfighting betting site during the height of the pandemic. It was open on some Sports Channels too back in the day although I don't watch that much TV nowadays so I don't know if they were still up and running.

That's because the players don't spread the location of the place to many people or many places so that only certain people who are familiar with cockfighting will know about it. I see the fight as wickedness, and they are just abusing the animals. I don't see anything fun in seeing two animals fight and hurting each other, that's just wickedness to me. The cockfight is not really popular in my country, the animal fight that is popular in my country is the ram fight, which is mostly done during the Muslim festive period but is illegal, so it is done hidden. I see it as animal abuse because one of the animals will get injured, and some might even die. I don't see any fun in that.
