Any suggestions which multicoin wallet to use instead?
You surely know better than to ask me that question. Here's my solution: Electrum for Bitcoin and Monerujo for Monero. Sell all your shitcoins for one of these two. Tongue
And no Ethereum  Huh I thought this could be the third one in the list too.
I'd suggest Alpha wallet [1] for Ethereum, open source and available on both Android & iOS. Ethereum has lots of wallets available shouldn't be of trouble at all to find one.

Extensions wallets like Metamask can also be used on mobile with extension supported browsers like Kiwi/Lemur/Mises (search on play store), on iOS there is orion browser with extension support too but I'm not sure if it extensions work there as good.

Wallets with inbuilt browsers are hit or miss on properly rendering the Dapps so I prefer extensions.

Regarding Monero, I came across this Elite wallet [2] which is also open source [3].

Their subreddit paints a similarly bleak picture: https://www.reddit.com/r/coinomi. Lots of posts of people being unable to spend coins, unable to sync, getting a variety of error messages, etc. The comment section for each of those posts is just filled with spam.
Similar thing happen on their play store (Android) if you sort it's review by newest date. Although Coinomi still have 4.5 stars and play store decide to show old review with 4-5 stars.

That happens if you select 'Most Relevant', with "Most Recent" new ones appear.

It looks like they've abandoned the project but left some existing servers running.
Like in this case, Coinomi stopped upgrading the wallet and you never know they may close the service one day.
Wouldn't we be fine as we have seed phrase which we can use to recover funds in case coinomi shuts down? Ofc, this long as they don't wipe our funds with backdoors or whatever.

If it adds to anything, I tried their live chat, they responded well after half an hour.

They are still a bit active in Coinomi Official Telegram, they posted about Coinomi web wallet, so they are still working on something, but I don't see much activity on twitter and other social media.
Poking about LinkedIn shows that a couple of their key people such as their CTO left the company around the same time as they went silent on all their media channels last year. It seems maybe there are a few customer support agents still working at Coinomi, but they key people responsible for maintenance and development have all left.

For Monero, I don't need to keep it on mobile. That was only out of convenience, not because I need it on the go. So Monerujo won't work. I tried the full wallet once (on a server), and it's much more resource intensive than Bitcoin Core, so that's not an option either.
If you don't want to run your own node, then why not just use the GUI wallet from https://www.getmonero.org/ and connect to a third party node?

And no Ethereum  Huh I thought this could be the third one in the list too.
Why? Just because it's popular? It's a pre-mined scam which is happy to roll back the chain to censor people if the devs so choose. It's the opposite of all the things you want from a proper cryptocurrency.

but I don't think they support monero.
You are correct, Unstoppable wallet is not supporting monero.

It's quite difficult to support Monero anyway in combination with other coins, because the BIP39-like seed cannot be used to derive private keys in the same way as other coins. First, Monero uses a differnt curve - Ed25519, not secp256k1. Second of all, BIP32 and other hierarchical derivation schemes are not defined by Monero. Third, and I could be wrong about this, but there doesn't seem to be a coin number assigned for XMR on SLIP-0132.

Third, and I could be wrong about this, but there doesn't seem to be a coin number assigned for XMR on SLIP-0132.
Monero is assigned coin number 128: https://github.com/satoshilabs/slips/blob/master/slip-0044.md

As you say though, it's more complicated than just deriving at that path since you also need to use the sc_reduce32() function to end up with a ed25519 key.

Both Trezor and Ledger have released tools which will guide you through the process of converting your BIP39 seed phrase in to a 25 word Monero seed phrase which can be imported in to the Monero wallets we have discussed above:
https://github.com/ph4r05/monero-agent/blob/master/PoC.md#trezor-seeds
https://github.com/LedgerHQ/app-monero/tree/master/tools/python

Or alternatively, Coinomi (of all places!) has forked Ian Coleman's paged and implemented the same thing. Just enter your seed phrase and select "Monero" from the drop down menu and it will spit out your Monero seed phrase:
https://coinomi.github.io/tools/bip39/

Obviously do all this on an airgapped device.

Based on my short experience, Feather have better performance/sync time than GUI wallet from getmonero.org though.

I'd suggest Alpha wallet [1] for Ethereum
I'd suggest to stay away from Ethereum. It's a centrally controlled premined shitcoin that abandoned it's USP the moment it was convenient for the creator. After that, it got worse by spamming and scamming thousands if not millions of people with made-up useless tokens. That's not how crypto is supposed to be.

Back on topic:
If you don't want to run your own node, then why not just use the GUI wallet from https://www.getmonero.org/ and connect to a third party node?
I didn't know that's a possibility. I'll have to look into the differences between GUI wallet and Feather. I quickly checked Feather yesterday, but couldn't find how to import a private key.

Or alternatively, Coinomi (of all places!) has forked Ian Coleman's paged and implemented the same thing. Just enter your seed phrase and select "Monero" from the drop down menu and it will spit out your Monero seed phrase:
https://coinomi.github.io/tools/bip39/

Thanks, I'll start here.

~snip~
You are an expert already and you know what close source wallets are. If you need another alternative, use Trustwallet if the coins you are looking for is not on Unstoppable wallet.

I'm really surprised that you give such a recommendation at all, considering that Trust Wallet is also mentioned in the context of Libbitcoin Explorer and so far $900k worth of cryptocurrencies stolen. There is nothing trusted in that wallet except the name, and besides, the company that privatized that wallet is really shady, not to say a harsher word.

[WARNING] Wallets created with Libbitcoin Explorer (bx) are insecure!

I recommended Unstoppable wallet, not Trustwallet.

I do not recommend Trustwallet:

You are an expert already and you know what close source wallets are. If you need another alternative, use Trustwallet if the coins you are looking for is not on Unstoppable wallet.

Close source wallet are not recommendable.

LoyceV is not a newbie and he is using a close source wallet for low amount of the shitcoins on a mobile device and as what I still know, he is still of bitcoin tech savvy than me. He stated this on the OP:

Coinomi is closed source, but for small amounts I don't mind.

Libbitcoin Explorer vulnerability was not linked to Trustwallet. But all close source wallets can be linked because the public do not know anything about the source code and if they use Libbitcoin Explorer to generate seed phrase for users, or if how the seed phrase is generated is worse and more vulnerable than how Libbitcoin Explorer generate seed phrase.

I can not recommend a close source wallet.

Not shilling for one particular company, BUT the Keystone hardware wallet has a decent IMO multicoin companion app for both Android & IOS
https://support.keyst.one/getting-started/syncing-with-the-keystone-vault-mobile-app

You would have to see if it has the coins / tokens you use. But this gets you mobile and hardware.
Yes, to spend you now have to carry 2 devices. Or be limited to only spending when you are where you keep your HW wallet.

As always, different things work for different people. Not going say one is better then the other or use this instead of that.
Different things work for different people, and at time higher risk is a fine tradeoff for not dealing with a bunch of different wallets because it's for such a small amount.

If someone wants my $25 in LTC and $20 in Doge and $20 (ish) in ETH and the other $50 in tokens. Have at it. I have probably saved more then that value in time not having to deal with 3 wallets every time I swapped phones.

-Dave

I don't know how you interpret what you wrote, but for me this is more than a clear recommendation. You definitely recommend both wallets, only the second one as an alternative.

It's possible.
I am not following anything related with Coinomi for years, but I remember last time I checked their desktop app it was very buggy, and I couldn't close it properly several times.

Not shilling for one particular company, BUT the Keystone hardware wallet has a decent IMO multicoin companion app for both Android & IOS
Didn't Keystone officially announce recently they are stopping support for their companion app and they are focusing more on supporting all other third party applications?
If this is true than I wouldn't recommend anyone using this app for anything serious.
There is one app from different HW manufacturer, but I am not comfortable enough using and recommending it.

For Monero... I tried the full wallet once (on a server), and it's much more resource intensive than Bitcoin Core, so that's not an option either.

This has been my solution for the last couple of years, and it's actually not that bad.  It does seem to take much longer to sync than bitcoin, even though the blockchain size is under 200GB, but once synchronized it doesn't use up much in the way of processing or ram resources.

I don't have any mobile monero wallets installed either, but I believe MyMonero will allow you to connect to your own remote daemon which can improve privacy.  I like to have the official monero wallet installed on my laptops, so I can and do connect those wallets to my remote daemon through a VPN, which eliminates the need to have the whole blockchain downloaded on every device I use.

And no Ethereum  Huh I thought this could be the third one in the list too.
Why? Just because it's popular? It's a pre-mined scam which is happy to roll back the chain to censor people if the devs so choose. It's the opposite of all the things you want from a proper cryptocurrency.

You got this right but still it will reach another heights in the next bull market but on the other hand, as the regulation becomes strict Privacy coins like XMR will be delisted from exchanges, and retail will be least interested in it. The price won't rise much as there will be no hype. And many people do not know the advantages of XMR over other altcoins.

I quickly checked Feather yesterday, but couldn't find how to import a private key.
Maybe the wallet doesn't support private key imports. Huh
I don't know much about Monero, but maybe this can help > https://docs.featherwallet.org/guides/create-view-only-wallet.
It talks about creating watch-only wallets. That's not what you want, but it's not why I am mentioning it. At the bottom, it describes how to import key images. It tells you to go to
Quote
Wallet → Advanced → Import → Key Images
Maybe there is an option there for private keys instead of key images.

You are an expert already and you know what close source wallets are. If you need another alternative, use Trustwallet if the coins you are looking for is not on Unstoppable wallet.
It's not that big of a deal, I think. We all know how difficult it is to find good multi-coin wallets. The Unstoppable Wallet that keeps getting mentioned probably doesn't even support 1/5 of the coins and tokens that Trust Wallet, Atomic, Exodus, and similar closed-source alternatives do. Then, what else is there than to suggest, mention, list, or recommend the worse options?

Unstoppable wallet takes too long to sync, and downloads hundreds of MBs (maybe up to 1-2 GBs) of data during that process for each coin. For many people with limited phone storage, that might not be the best choice.

You make a good point, but it seems excessive for an amount so small that I'm comfortable keeping it in a closed source mobile wallet. Lol: It's so safe, I can't even send it.

I guess I'll have to create the key image from a private key to use that.

Maybe there is an option there for private keys instead of key images.
Key images in Monero are something quite different to raw private keys. They are a one time use alternative public key which is used for verifying there are no double spends within the ring signature.

Feather does give you the option to restore a full wallet from your private spend key at the set up wizard. However, I would be surprised in Coinomi gives Loyce the option to export his private spend key. I suspect he would have to go through the https://coinomi.github.io/tools/bip39/ site I linked above, at which point it will be easier just to use the Monero seed phrase it generates rather than the private spend key.

as the regulation becomes strict Privacy coins like XMR will be delisted from exchanges, and retail will be least interested in it. The price won't rise much as there will be no hype.
If you are buying Monero on a regulated, centralized exchange, you are doing it wrong. Cheesy I also couldn't care less about "hype". The majority of Monero users are in it for the tech and the privacy, not to try and chase meaningless hype like is the case with Ethereum.

Thanks, this is a lot easier than expected. It's syncing the wallet now. That concludes my adventure with Coinomi.

Update: syncing finished. The weird thing is: after importing the Coinomi wallet into Feather, none of the addresses under "Receive" showed anything, and they didn't match the addresses in Coinomi. But the funds appeared and I could send them. Done!

Lol, it's pretty darn safe which is required for my use-case, but it definitely sounds like overkill for your habits.  I also use my Trezor to add a layer of security for the bulk of my coins.  Being that it's decentralized and always in my control, Monero is my go-to method of maintaining my financial privacy.

If they did I missed it, which is possible.
But, even so a slightly out of date app that is linked to hardware is going to be safer then a software only one.

In the end there are a lot of BTC only wallets that are good.
And few single alt coin wallets that are good.
All the multicoin wallets are fair at best.

And this then gets back to the amount of risk someone is willing to take vs the amount of funds involved.

-Dave
