If you are not a gambler like OP had said he isn't so much of a gambler so if he has money to bet, I doubt he will go all in and trust his prediction. The non gamblers often times will just be predicting.

Regardless of the state of mind, a person who understand the situation will never feel any regret even if he missed to bet on his winning prediction.  The fact that the person has no money simply means that he has no capability to bet.  So instead of frustrating oneself, it is better to just look ahead and move on.  Next time a person must prepare a budget ahead of time  so that the same thing won't happen again.

Only players understand gambling games not to earn money but to entertain themselves. Gambling is only used as entertainment. Like your friend you said he was just a drinker. There are many people like him who are good at processing cards but they are not actually gamblers.
I think he is a professional and used to gamble, but in the end he stopped and just had fun.

That is why it's better to gamble with at least the little amount you can afford to gamble with, like what I does mostly is that I don't go predicts games if I don't have money to place those bets so, is better either you give it to someone that is more closer to you to try their lucks but you can also warned them not to gamble with huge funds. That's right. You never know what's going to happen and feeling like you could've changed your life by doing something will only make you live in a state of constant regret and wondering why and what could've been. What if I invested in bitcoin in 2010? It would change my life that's for sure, but maybe I'd put it on Mt.Gox to sell it and got cheated out of it? Nobody in that situation that will not be pained, one it has pass the person by it has gone and the only thing  you can do is to make reference to it, nothing else can be done. Maybe out of boredom he predicted the game no money to play it, and not advisable to loan money just to place bet, and sometimes out of arguments maybe with friends, i know of friends that are always predicting and sometimes is natural for someone to be broke, not having money to even bet.

What I am explaining is about something where you believe the bet at that time will be in your favor but you forget to place it or deliberately don't place it, so that when the lottery opens your favorite number appears on that day.
