What are the reasons behind this picture being used to depict Satoshi?

For quite sometime now I have been curious about this picture as posted above. When ever there is any post online relating to Bitcoin and Satoshi, you see the picture next to the name or topic of discussion.  We all know based on what we have heard, that Satoshi Nakamoto is anonymous and till date nobody knows who the real Satoshi looks like or resemble. Quite a long time this image have been on air depicting the real Satoshi which I believe is not real. Possibly there must have been a reason why that picture was used to make reference to Satoshi Nakamoto and since then till now it's been used and I was wondering if the identity of that picture is still alive because he should have long surfaced to clear the doubt surrounding the use of his image whenever Bitcoin is mentioned. I believe if he should be this popular, then he must have made a statement or comment with respect to Bitcoin existence hence his image was taken to always be seen when ever the name Bitcoin is mentioned.

If you are opportuned to have come across any thing relating to the  above, maybe video or picture because this is the only picture I basically see too often about him.  Please do well to drop the link or the video here so we could see for ourselves as to get proper knowledge and understanding how this picture emanated and the person behind this identity used.

I pray there are members who could be able to give us insight of how this picture came about to be attached to the Satoshi identity.

He is one of people who was suspected to be Satoshi Nakamoto.

He is a Japanese that fits with a Japanese style name Satoshi Nakamoto but we don't actually know who is / are Satoshi Nakamoto who only used Tor.

I'll probably release Satoshi's PMs and logged IPs addresses in ~8 years. This'd probably be of great historical interest. (Though he always used Tor, as far as I can tell.)

Well, his real name of Dorian Nakamoto, he is one of those that have been previous accused of being Satoshi Nakamoto due to the fact that it is generally believe that Satoshi is a from japanese and Dorian is also a japanese, and those who confirmed it also started that Dorian had the same handwriting or a similar handwriting to that of Satoshi Nakamoto.

For the above reason, he was accused to be the real Satoshi Nakamoto, but then, he later refuted the accusation stating that he is not Satoshi and not related to who ever Satoshi is, that his surname was just a coincidence..

I will update this with the link to his official post where he debunked the believe that he is Satoshi Nakamoto, this is if no one else find it and post before I do ..

It's pretty disgusting that media outlets are still using Dorian's image after causing such an adverse impact on his life.  This man was hounded by the media because of the false speculation of who he supposedly was.  Practically ruined his life and painted a target on his back.  There are plenty of other artistic renditions that could be used to represent satoshi, but they continue to use the wrong person's face against their wishes.

Dorian Nakamoto is not the only person referred to when Satoshi Nakamoto is mentioned, but there are about 3 people who have claimed or linked them to Satoshi, but Dorian Nakamoto's picture remains the most famous, although he continues to decline the claim.
The reason for his fame is this press report https://www.newsweek.com/2014/03/14/face-behind-bitcoin-247957.html in which the journalist tried to search for Satoshi through the most people who have common characteristics with Satoshi, where he worked. Dorian is in secret defense projects and his name is Japanese and he has similar economic ideas. You can read the report, which unfortunately contains a picture of his house, which exposed him to a lot of harassment.

People just use the background matching. While the name Nakamoto is quite common in Japan^[1], Dorian coincidentally has a computer engineering^[2] background which has led the community to suspect that he is Satoshi, a cryptography geek.

I think this is not the real image or face of Satoshi Nakamoto. Just as I have read in the replies and comments. He was accused of being the real Satoshi Nakamoto while his real name is Dorian Nakamoto. Although he refuted the claims not being the real Satoshi Nakamoto as it was a thing of similar names
 So therefore it was a case of mistaken identity.buy however, just as it was said earlier by a poster his image was still used by the media to attach to Bitcoin whenever it is mentioned. I presume he must have had a lot of tough time battling with this issue which has led to him being on government watch list if possible.

Yes, what we heard is true, nobody knows who exactly is the real Satoshi. But since BTC was created and became popular, there have been debates on who exactly is Satoshi, and because of that we get:
1) People who tell lies and claim that they are Satoshi, like Craig Wright.
2) People who are falsely accused of being Satoshi, and they have denied it, like Dorian Nakamoto.

Unfortunately for Dorian Nakamoto, he fell under the second category and really went through a lot, because his privacy was exposed and he was harassed constantly with questions and interviews, even after he had denied being the creator of BTC. Because of this, in 2014 Andreas Antonopoulos organized a fundraiser to say 'sorry' to Dorian for all he went through, and the BTC community donated a lot of money to him.

The creator of bitcoins has to be a genius, and the man in picture fits the profile on first glance.
Not like it is a must that every genius is nerd looking, but it is suspected that every nerd looking individual is highly intelligent (it is not true always).
The name "Satoshi Nakamoto" sounds Asian, the man in the picture is Asian.
The name "Satoshi Nakamoto" sounds like a man's name, that is why a man and not a woman is being suspected.
The man in picture has been suspected to be Satoshi Nakamoto by many people, so that is what search engines on the internet will show you as the most suspected picture.

Yeah, I actually get what you are saying, but people should actually stop using real people's images and only use images with no real facial look to depict Satoshi, no body in the world can or has ever come out to tell how Satoshi Nakamoto looks, so personally, I feel that using real people's images to reference Satoshi is actually an invade in the privacy of who ever is used ..

People can actually use images like the one I share below to reference Satoshi Nakamoto in articles and post, instead of using images of real people who we all know if not Satoshi ..

It's quite easy to just identify a common image with a project that proves to operate on a decentralized Network and stands on the idea of anonymity and individual privacy.
It's not a bad thing if with this image people can understand what the message means and comply in tune.
Satoshi is an idea and a psuedo name to cover up the genius of the crypto innovation and technology. It really doesn't matter how the idea is made significant, what matters more is the understanding to explore and apply this idea to our advantage.

There will always be something to talk about, since the media and other public entities are so much interested in unmasking the real face of Satoshi, they just needed something that they can hold into and use it to describe the entity, and someone gave them exactly what they where expecting which was an arguable fact, details and image of whom they can refer to as Satoshi, and the media carried it without even further investigation, they concluded so easily because they have been waiting for something to come up and they finally got one of that.

Until the real person or group of people who are called Satoshi are really up and there is some kind of prove that they are, this image will still appears to be valid and refers to as Satoshi, I believe this will be almost impossible for the media to change the mindset and start using a ghost image other than this suspected person.

He is Dorian but does share the same last name as Satoshi "Nakamoto" and another alibi is that he is a Japanese-American Engineer which does make some people believe that he is a strong candidate for Satoshi Nakamoto.
But indeed in this case he has also made a statement that he is not Satoshi and does not want to interfere with something he does not know.

It's just that there are still many people who think that he is Satoshi Nakamoto and things like that cannot be controlled so that when in a search engine or image there will definitely be a juxtaposition of Dorian's photo with bitcoin.

As others have stated the actual reason, and I appreciate them doing so, I have to say I feel bad for this guy.  As far as I've been told, he was harassed quite a bit over this ordeal.  I know someone who's actually met him and I was told that he's actually come to accept the whole thing, and is sort of "enjoying" the celebrity aspect of it.  Which makes me feel better about all the grief he had to go through in the beginning.

So assumptions, and theories have no boundaries people think Stoshi is a fictional character but He was a real one, He changed his field name as some model people do but He was real. There can be a lot of possible scenarios, The image OP you've posted is nothing to do with Satoshi, he really wanted to hide himself so he did it well, A couple of people think that he fits close to the character we fictionize because He's Japanese and Naem resemblance as well, What if he tricked everyone with name.

There is no point in digging for his Identity I think the point is to analyze his objective and the great way he used technological development to achieve financial freedom, This was what he wanted he created the base of a new system and now we are on the way to building it. Isn't that Dorian Nakamoto?  Some people who are trying hard to uncover the identity of Satoshi Nakamoto like the Newsweek who saw this guy and think that He is Satoshi Nakamoto.  Dorian Nakamoto later denies that he is Satoshi Nakamoto and said that he had misunderstood the question and have nothing to do with Bitcoin.[1]  I do not know whether Dorian Nakamoto denied that he is Satoshi Nakamoto due to security purposes but many believe that Dorian isn't Satoshi due to some reasons.

Yeah this is basically just a coincidence this man's last name is Nakamoto and he is a computer engineer. I don't think someone seriously suspects this poor lad is Satoshi. Mostly his photos are used for Bitcoin memes (like Breaking News: Bitcoin CEO says... ).

I dont agree with the association of Dorian to Satoshi and how his image is still being
used eventhough it has never been proven that he is a actually Satoshi.

I have seen Bitcoin collectibles and artworks with Dorian's image which is also wrong.
TBH I dont know how he deals with the constant misrepresentation and the
false association of him and is image just because his appearance fits a narrative.
