bit - derived from the word "bitcoin"
rustica - the Latin word for "country"

Bitrustica would be a virtual democratic country.

The government body could be made responsible for maximizing organization within the bitcoin community.

Maybe bitcoinpolice.org could be part of this.

...

Wirtland ['w¡rtlənd] (aka: Virtlando; Bиpтлaндия; Hayalistan) claims to be the world's first internet-based sovereign country. Wirtland is an experiment into legitimacy and self-sustainability of a country without its own soil

Bitrustica [bit'rustica]  (aka: Bitworld) COULD be a internet-based sovereign country, created to facilitate world wide bitcoin development, Bitrustica's citizen could vote on important political decisions bitcoin will soon need to make.

"
    O Bitrustica!
    Our home and native land!
True patriot love in all thy sons command.

With glowing hearts we see thee rise,
The True Coin strong and free!

    From far and wide,
O Bitrustica, we stand on guard for thee.

God keep our land glorious and free!
O Bitrustica, we stand on guard for thee.

O Bitrustica, we stand on guard for thee.
"

"In a nutshell, the network works like a distributed timestamp server, stamping the first transaction to spend a coin. It takes advantage of the nature of information being easy to spread but hard to stifle." -- Satoshi

Let's wage war in Wirtland, seize their servers and use them to generate our coins.
This is a question of national seurity: Wirtland is a threat to us.

If this virtual country allows "citizenship" to be kept private, operates on a purely voluntary/contractual basis, and provides useful services for their fees, sure, why not, I'm in.

Bitcoin is the ultimate freedom test. It tells you who is giving lip service and who genuinely believes in it.

I. On board for this initative, it must be done for the greater good. Virus primed, Trojans on stand-by, may our ISPs forgive us...

No! Let us not fight out of fear nor greed.  That is the way of defeat.  Let us stand our ground.  If Wirtland moves beyond threat to action, we shall defend our land with all the fury of Hell.  If Bitrustica becomes a tyrannical aggressor, she will die along with her soldiers.

So you (bitrusticans) claim some kind of right to govern bitcoin? And if you claim it ? How will you enforce it?

Bitrustica should be funded by the people for the people.
Bitrusticans rights / duties have not yet been defined. in fact bitrustica is just a wacky idea this point.
The basic idea of bitrustica would be to give everyone in the community a change to vote on bitcoin related issues.
ex.
It could be in a few years their will be many different bitcoin clients. So who's to say what is the official client? bitrusticans could vote on this kind of thing.
In time it might be necessary to elect a official representative of bitrustica. right now people might thing B Wagner is the bitcoin community's representative (is that what we want?)
"Great men do not seek leadership. leadership is thrust upon them" - Kahless of the Klingon Empire.  Wink

Maybe having a real sovereign country, backing bitcoin could have legal and/or social benefits that we can't see yet?

I'm guessing your talking about this -> http://wiki.solidcoin.info/wiki/SolidCoin_Foundation

So bitcoin is lagging behind on this issue?

Would this kind of foundation be desirable for bitcoin users?

the representative of the imaginary country would be appointed by the populous. so i would hope he would have the peoples full support.
