Is it possible that there is a tag (some kind of like button or some kind of merit but not limited) to tell the discussion partner that I have read the reply and am not interested in continuing the discussion. Is that possible?

Theymos isn't going to implement it for a reason as trivial as this, and even if he does, users can still go ahead and ignore that option and never use it, that way you still don't know if the user decided to ignore your message or if they've actually read it or not. If it is something really, really, really serious, you might send the user (you're expecting a reply from) a PM, but if it is not, forget about the discussion.

No one owe you anything, it's up to the user still want to continue the discussion or not. Even the user is using telegram bot and you keep mention his username, he don't have to reply your post.

Sending a private message isn't a good choice, he can report your message as unsolicited message and you risk a chance to get temporary banned.

Just assume the user have read your post and move on.

Sometimes a user doesn't want to be involved in a debate/discussion or the topic becomes redundant that he doesn't want to comeback to the discussion, we all have a choice here in this forum, we have different characters here, we just have to admit that if a member doesn't want to go further then you have to respect that, you just move on.

The like button is good but on social media there are readers that just check a post and do nothing, something like that could have happened if we had that like button so there's really no need for that.

I think we need this understanding that this platform does not have to operate like the way other social media platforms do operate, secondly, talking about likes, any post that worth your likes should be deserving of your merit standard as well, so why the use of like when you can easily merit the post, since a post that worth receiving your merits is a quality post and same applies to giving a post your like, that same like you're talking about is what existed in form of quality content that touches you and you feels pressing a like, that same like is what the person earned from you through his quality post and is nothing different from the way the merit system was intended.

Some will even suggested that we shouldn't know who merit us, and who don't, merit system has gone beyond just the likes as well, it restrain the scammers and strollers from growing here, all your suggestion were part of what constitute the reason why merit was created.

 I feel this is about the second thread (or more) I'm seeing that is requesting for a feature that some how shares attributes with other social platforms. One thing I've come to observe about this forum is that Theymos is content to leaving some things the way they are and will only make a change of it's necessary. More emphasis on the necessary.
While I'm not opposed to change, I feel there are some options that are better off of they are done without.

Okay a like button does not cover that you like the thread and are finished with it for now.
A merit button does move cover that you like the thread and you are finished with it for now.

A button that read  ( "I am done talking will check back on this thread in a day or two." )

works much better.

Yes, I agree. But with the tag, I know that the person I'm talking to has read it. If he doesn't reply it means he really wants that, if he comes back after a few days (but I'm not sure many do this) it's better than no further discussion

Yes, maybe your idea is good... but few people use that method, and there are too many words " I.a.d.t.w.c.b.o.t.t.i.a.d.o.t" would probably make it look like spam

I don't want to discuss that. But that's one example that some discussions require feedback or at least I know that the person I'm talking to has read my argument

there was some humor intended, but I do understand that is is too long as compared to a like. I do feel a merit is a like.

And likes or merits have value on this forum. My high merit count makes my signature more valuable . So merits a re bit better than likes

I remembered that there was a userscript that enables you to add a comment next to each username, add like, add +1 and a lot of features, but I did not find its link in this list ---> https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5148488.0

Generally, "like or +1" post does not mean that this post is good or of high quality, which is a good feature, but I find it will be harmful, as people will search for more likes alongside with merits, which means more spam.

Isn't just withdrawing from further discussion a sufficient signal that the interlocutor no longer wants to answer?
There are many reasons for such a thing, but if everything has already been said and someone has nothing new to add, why would you force further discussion? This would be great for trolls, who use every little thing as an excuse to continue the provocation.

Yeah it is what we usually do. Many times I check my own pages of posts to see if any of the threads I have been posting on need to be looked at.
