Three days is quite a lot to cry over his loss. He must have made some plans ahead of the winning. I am forced to ask, is gambling your friend's only source of income? If yes, then he's got lots of issues. At least we will have a  tangible reason why he is so emotionally attached to the betting.

@OP This is the reason why many elders advise us to not count the chicken before the eggs hatch.  Your friend had already all sort of plans when he failed to conclude his session.  He should have stop his gambling session first and withdrawn the money before planning where to use it.

This is also a lesson that when the winnings is in hand, quit, and withdraw to secure the winnings.  As long as we gamble, we might end up lossing all the winnings and our initial bankroll.  This happened to me and I learned my lesson well.

When I am talking about gamblers who are gambling for the sake of interest (profits and winning), the person that you mentioned is one of them. Some might gamble just for fun, but other gamblers can't or will not gamble for fun. Even if a gambler is gambling for fun, there will be a limited time for the fun and when the losing starts, that's when the person has gone low on funds.

This doesn't sound like a healthy situation for your friend, maybe you should talk to him and try to offer him some help. Going from 1 USD to 2.500 sounds like insane profit, winning such bets must have had very small chance to begin with. No idea how many bets you need to combine for such a profit, but it must be a lot. Why didn't your friend just cash out when there was only one game left? Combi bets are nice to increase your payouts, if you manage to pick the right matches. For me it never worked out with combi bets, I always ended up losing in the end similar to your friend. But I usually only combine 3-4 bets as I already struggle with them. Nonetheless we can't rely on making a profit with such small chances and if we feel sick after the bet then we did something wrong. Usually betting only 1 USD shouldn't invest us too much and we should try and keep some distance to our bets as emotions can lead to wrong decision making.

When you are really not mentally ready, stay away from gambling. Because, this can really make you not only sick physically but also mentally, experiencing various forms of depression and prolonged stress, which of course will also have a bad impact on your overall health.
And maybe your friend is just one of the many people who also have the same problem when losing money in gambling. When reality really doesn't match expectations, even though we have very high hopes, are really gambling to get money, and imagine buying or doing something with that money, but in fact, it's all not real.
