I mean, most people certainly don't want people around who are only asking for handouts, and so he thought that distancing himself to these people as early as possible will save him from that treatment. IMO, he's not really a good friend, and he only treat these people as gambling buddies and would likely not want to share personal connections with them at all. That in itself is not understandable, and anyone who thinks that that is a good idea would not develop connections that are strong and not only rooted because of monetary reasons.

Yes, it is possible that the person who has won the bet is trying to avoid his close friends because they are afraid they will borrow the money or ask for the same amount of their winnings. In my opinion, the attitude that this person has is very unethical because he has negative feelings towards his friend just because of a close friend money so he is shunned.

Yep its possible and he isn't open to doing it because he knows his friends are really going to borrow and because he is the the guy who can't say NO, he'd rather avoid.

If I were one of those friends he ignored now I guess all I can do is just let it pass. It is unknown how he feels base on the story by OP, who knows the guy becomes paranoid after having such amount.

My guess is that one million in your local currency is not big, maybe he just wants to save it and finds it difficult to refuse invitations to hang out or gamble so he chooses to stay away from his friends for a while because usually the gambler wins or loses will keeps coming back to play.
However, the money we earn from gambling should not change our attitude or treatment towards our colleagues because the money can run out in the future but friendship is very important in life.

Exactly, we do not know what is the reason why the one who have just won decent money left his friends. We do not even know if the gambler is truly leaving them away, because there might be other reason except the ones you said. This case is just a case that we know from one side only and there will be too much speculation about it. We cant judge the gambler just by a story from the friends but we also need to know from the gambler's side if we want to discuss about it fairly. It may have more to do with the country and society of that country than with the fact he has become egocentric and selfish because the money. In my case, while living here I would keep a profile as low key as possible, because of the dangers of such information on one's wins being made public.

Though, I would not be bad and would still try to keep in touch with them through social media. That is another possibility of what it is happening, their friend does not hang out with them anymore but only message them occasionally.

If they were true friends to one another, it will be just matter of time before they encounter again and have some time to catch up on their personal life

Show me your friend and I will tell who you really are, they are friends and they know the best reason why they acted that way. True friends don't avoid each other when money comes, they may be just ordinary guys who hook up for games or maybe they bonded because they have common goals to win bets and also share update, they might not be that close. Real niggas will share or give to friend when they hit something good from betting.

I have seen people even avoid their family after winning a jackpot, some says their family disown them during those period they struggle to make ends and they cut ties because they gamble, there is no any reason why they need to come back to them after achievement of the dream and to me, it's fair. If you can't be their when I had nothing, then you and I have nothing together when the money comes. Some people could also be doing it because they are trying to avoid enemies, you don't know who and you don't know who may dislike you for winning large sum.

People can say all the politically correct statements that the gambler shouldn't have done that but it's pretty obvious to me that security is the most logical reason for this behavior. A lot of people who win lotteries suddenly goes dark and move to another place because they know their whole family is at risk. That gambler could be just waiting for the time until the dust settles before he contacts the baldies hehehe.
