I've never encountered any delay on any forum previously.

What's the point - to try to make the board less useful? To cut down on posts? Then why have a posting board?

Why should I have to wait 6 MINUTES in between my posts?
I feel I am making contributions - but this is wasting my time.

Another lovely aspect of this is that when it gives the fabulous "There has been less than 360 seconds since your last post" it doesn't preserve the attempted post - so all the work that has gone into the post is lost.

Any way this can be removed?

What about simply banning posters who are a problem/spamming/whatever, rather than wasting the time of your members with an onerous system?

Even in the event that an attacker gains more than 50% of the network's computational power, only transactions sent by the attacker could be reversed or double-spent. The network would not be destroyed.

They set this rules to avoid spamming by new members. This is the good security option. But unfortunately, you loose the data when you type in the thread. You need to save the data and post if you are typing very long.

Yes. The time limit goes down the more activity you get. It's annoying but you'll get used to it. You can save a draft of your post by previewing it first. The attempted post might actually be saved too but I'm not sure. Check your drafts.

This is nothing new. If you haven't noticed earlier it's because you haven't tried to post more than once within 6 minutes before. Just keep posting, be active, and the limit goes down. I for example have been here for approx 2 months, and my posting restriction is 28 seconds.

I agree, newbies should only have a few posts available per day, rather than just 6 minutes in-between them.

Once you get enough activity, you won't have any limit at all.
I could post 15 times a minute or more if I wanted to. Wink
You'll get there faster than you think.

You've been here for 10 months tho. That's not really faster than anyone thinks, I think!
However nobody posts 15 times a minute, which means all restriction changes after like 70 activity ( 28 seconds between posts ) doesn't really matter.

Yeah, once I really started posting (back when newbie jail was in effect), I realized I was a Jr. Member very quickly. I could post vigorously in no time.

I think that change occurs after 56 activity , because its probably based on the activity tiers.

No longer active on bitcointalk, however, you can still reach me via PMs if needed.

The exact formulae for time limit can be found in the newbie readme.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=177133.msg5106206#msg5106206
Code:
waittime = 360;
if(activity >= 15)
        waittime = (int)(90 - activity);
if(activity >= 60)
        waittime=(int)(34.7586 - (0.0793103 * activity));
if(activity >= 100)
        waittime = max((int)(14-(activity/50)), 4);

Okay , so the formula means that your posting limit is once every 12 seconds at 100 activity and it reduces by 1 second every 50 activity.
It caps out at 500 activity , when you can post every 4 seconds.

Point being , once you have 100 activity there is no practical limit to posting speed.

No longer active on bitcointalk, however, you can still reach me via PMs if needed.

There is a bigger delay on reddit for example. It helps to strugle with spam a lot!

At 70 there's 28 second limit, nobody posts 2 non-spam posts within 28 seconds of each other, which means already by then you won't notice the restriction whatsoever.

Even if someone makes 50 accounts and spam, their posts get deleted and if it keeps happening they get banned. So there's not really a problem. The problem is if they could post straight away, so even if their accounts got banned they hadn't invested any time into it, and could just create a new one straight away, and start over.

Also to add the reason you've a delay is a newbie is to stop spam. "Then why have a posting board?" Well, I'd rather have fewer newbie posts than loads of spam.

Do you really believe this does more good than harm? All it takes is a few months for a spammer to have 50 accounts that can post without restriction. This just makes newbies annoyed (I remember how annoying this was)
