I saw a comment on the article about the numbers not a viable thing and that there's a possibility that it's an inaccurate statistic since they came from the government which I think is a valid argument so hopefully there are other statistics that can at least back this up. Regarding the statistics though, if this is accurate then that's an alarming number because a population that's mostly gambling is likely a population that's experiencing high levels of poverty although that's just a conjecture, I do think that when more people are trying their luck with gambling, that can only mean that they're trying to find a way to get out of poverty in the quickest way possible which is gambling.

But based on the statement in the OP, they gamble daily, which means they have a means of earning, so they are able to gamble every day, which means they have something that they do to earn. I don't know, I don't want to judge, but based on the percentage, maybe they are the people that are reachable. Of course, even the Nigerian country has rich people, so I think they are the ones that can gamble every day. If not, then we are not sure how they have money to use for betting.

Even if the government raises a campaign or such, they can't stop people from gambling because the decision will depend on themselves. Unless the government bans gambling activities, that is the most effective way to stop people from gambling, but another problem will emerge: there will be a lot of illegal gambling cases. I was very surprised by the figures, but I don't believe that more than 20% of the Nigerian population is involved in gambling. It could be possible, but it's hard to believe that most of these people depend on gambling for their lives.

You can certainly confirm this, especially about people you know, but to be honest, relying on the proceeds of gambling is a mistake. Gambling never guarantees victory, in fact you will never win without luck even though you have done the analysis. Sports betting makes sense, but even if it were possible then relying on gambling is not the best solution for survival.

I saw this news online I think a day before yesterday, and with all sincerity, I was shocked for a second or two, but recovered from the shock after giving some thought to what I read and also comparing it to what is currently happening around in the country.

To be honest, I personally think that many in the country have turned to betting and gambling as a means of survival, several young boys and girls are into sports betting today, even those that are under s-aged.

Besides educating people about the bad influence and effect of gambling on their lives the government should strengthen its economy so people in third-world countries will not rely on gambling for their hopes and their futures, here in our country so many people are hooked on the lottery because the economy is not good with very high inflation and low salary when the stakes are high, people queuing just to bet and get a shot on the big pot.

They are motivated to bet even if they are not daily bettors in the hope that they get a shot on the big pot, there are true stories one example is a guy betting for the first time and picking a random number to hit the jackpot.

honestly, this number is very high and does not convince me that it is real data, perhaps the number of people who play is increasing in order to create a law that restricts gambling, in the case of an African country I would not be surprised that this data data were manipulated to fool people into thinking that there are a lot of people playing. because if someone who lives in Nigeria can see that their neighbors are playing a gambling, can see that their relatives and friends are playing a gambling, then these data could be true. Now I also need to see how much money people spend on gambling, because I highly doubt they spend a lot of money on gambling. Because I am observant of the number of gamblers around me and how much of the gambling activity is going on around me I can see that this figures stated as the amount spent by Nigerians daily on online gambling can be correct because I have even witnessed people who have no idea about a game but are willing enough to use their money on another persons prediction just so that they can have an opportunity to win. I don't believe that the chase for easy money is the issue that those Nigerian have taken to gambling, no it is not their fault. It is the fault of government that has not provided good environment and social amenities for macro and micro businesses to grow. If you don't have electricity in the country then no business will thrive but those existing will close up to other countries, so maybe that could be the real situation and reason for people to go into gambling but that is not the right direction to source for income. that would be hard for these politicians because they are known be one of the corrupt countries. their people have been in gambling and we can't rely on these politicians to act on this alarming rate in their gambling sector. maybe, a lot of them are also in gambling. who knows?

Mate, I know that the money is very significant, but what we must also know is that the money is not just from one of two persons. Nigerians have a great population, and I also think that some of them who are wasting that sum of money ($15) per day, it could be that it's the money that they are winning from gambling that they are still using to gamble.

You are right, though. Its understandable that they are really hoping for some jackpots to changed up their lives but we know that it is really that too absurd on having that kind of consideration
