Like how they might think about a certain memecoin reaching $1 and coming with a lot of zeroes, maybe they like to see a lot of numbers so choosing altcoins is the way they think it's safe. Yeah that's the problem as people think if value of a coin is under $1 they assume that it can pino like Bitcoin or Ethereum and other altcoins which has pumped massively. I have even notices some new coins and their prediction post listing which will give you higher figure than the overall valuation of current crypto market but they use terms like burning x percentage of tokens to achieve their target which is unrealistic, atleast this time we need to keep the forum educated and whenever we see such thread we need to educate them and make posts like you did in the past so that new investors don't fall for these misinformation. The worst part is people don't even know what they are investing into as they just get into some coins which are dying assuming that the coin had dropped it's value over 90% so it may recover and they can gain bit end up losing even that. FTX was an example where some users starts investing even during the dump assuming it will recover.

I think that's always the case at any point in time imo. There can be instances where you're able to get from rags to rich type of instance, but those are rare, like really rare. In most cases, scenarios like that only happen in rich people, and well, they only get richer. As for your average joe? They mostly end up losing everything they invested. Not every coin out there is the 2nd Bitcoin or Ethereum. It's kinda funny as well (self-insult here really since I did the same) how most newbies count not-realized profits into, well, profits already.

There's also the idea of newbies investing in a coin when it's on a high. That's a mistake. Most highs often don't last long in the first place so investing at the peak only invites losses. Invest when it's down instead. If you're that afraid of investing in a coin that would only go down, Then naturally do prior research.

I can’t speak for all newbies, but I can tell you about some of my mistakes when I was that newbie.

Buying overpriced shitcoins, which after the completion of the bullrun rapidly became cheaper and instead of profit, losses were obtained, multiples of 3-5 times. And sometimes more. The price of some even dropped to zero. 100% loss. If this money were invested in a bitcoin, then even taking into account subsequent drops and increases in price, in the end it would still lead to income.

Just for clarification, total supply and circulating supply details are not enough to tell how valuable a coin will turn out to be, we have seen countless projects with low supply like 10 million and turn out to be a shitty show while a billion supply might do well if the team control how tokens are been release with a proper schedule mechanism. You need to check the team background and what they represent individually and their past record. You also need to check what they aim, not some unrealistic products that they will promise and fail. That's what all the projects does today, just hype and lies.

Newbie book profits are too early in the bull market. We have been through a prolonged bear market for more than two years. After all this waiting we are expecting a good ROI from our investment and that is not only 2X. Well, people that do this, I had always judged them wrongly but one day I asked a friend of mine why he loves investment in low cap altcoins or shitcoins as the case may be. I tried telling him how much risk he was taking but he was calm to explain some things to me.

Yeah, Total supply is the most important part to consider valuation of the altcoin. Trader needs to check this carefully since most of the ATH always occur when the circulating supply of the altcoins is low. Assuming that the altcoin will reach the same ATH on bullrun while there’s big difference already on total supply is a big mistake.

There’s an exception to this when the project show a promising feature that makes investors value it more than the typical price to supply ratio. Doge is the best example on this case since it has unlimited supply yet it’s price is same with other altcoins that has lower supply.

Beat in what aspect? Market price? Is it the only factor to determine which one is best? Also there’s no need to. Bitcoin is a good investment and also altcoins. These two categories just vary depending on what type of investor you are. You may freely choose between short term and long term, higher rate of increase/decrease or stability. If it is concerning the new ones in this industry then it is on their end which one to choose as their investment. The beginner’s mistaken thinking that Bitcoin will not be pumped several times makes him put a large portion of his capital in altcoins instead of Bitcoin. Although Bitcoin is the most profitable and secure cryptocurrency in the market, its value increases over time as its supply decreases. Secondly, greed and the dream of getting rich quickly drive them to put their funds in meme coins projects and altcoins that are not top in the market.   Actually, there is nothing wrong with investing in altcoins, as long as you know how to choose and have a basis for research before you buy other crypto assets. Because if you just base it on hype, what others say, or just guess, it's not likely that your investment will be wasted if that's what you base it on.

You are not alone there are a lot of people with similar story and it's the biggest misconception that low price coins have higher chances of giving more returns and people still get deceived by this illogical logic. Even I have wasted a lot of money with shitcoins which never ever reached their launch price itself and my very recent experience was with a shit coin named Nebilo which around $2 and half dollars I wasted over $1400 because once I invested it dropped drastically and then extreme fluctuations started as a result Binance delisted the coin which was like last nail in coffin now the coin is trading at $0.02. Hence though of educating the crowd here to avoid the same mistake I did as noone should repeat the same mistake again I have been in this domain for a while still I can make this mistake our of greed then imagine the vulnerability of newbie.

I agree with OP here because before when I was still new in the Bitcoin or cryptocurrency market, I was lured with altcoins and at that time most of my funds were in Bitcoin but suddenly I was introduced and lured with altcoins, by this I was starting to convert some of my Bitcoins to altcoins and later on I realized that if I just hold Bitcoin, I didn't lose more or I even make more profits.

what matters though is that these investors are making a profit regardless of which altcoin they may invest in. what is just needed to point out to them is just to buy the altcoins that are not scams like the ones not listed in any exchanges because this will just make them hold forever without a market to dump.

I agree with your suggestions, sticking to some top alt coin actually is a better idea, because there are top altcoin that can do tremendously well and help the investors increase their money in several folds, most altcoin priced at one or two digits have better chances of yielding profits in multiple folds all at once so it becomes small investors choice.

There are some good and top altcoins out there which are good and still have a future of getting multiplied in multiple folds. Investing in but coin to be able to get a reasonable profit out of it's appreciation could sometimes be capital intensive, and because you would need a good amount of money to see significant profit, most times smaller investors prefer altcoins with which they could get significant profits regardless of their capitals. It will take a lot of time, research and knowledge in TA and Fundamental analysis to be able to get all that information that had to do with supply and demand.

this is why risk management is important, only allocating what you can afford to lose to invest in new project doesn't matter if the new project might increqase multiple times it also have the chance of going to zero.
with risk management only small portion of investment allocated for these new coins but it could necessarily be one of the largest contributor towards the investment portfolio considering sometime the growth of new project altcoin are so massive that it dwarf the investment return rate of other investment like bitcoin and ethereum.

If one is aiming for 100x alts, those are not found in obvious places like marketcap ranking or on coin tracking sites, you gotta find and dive into those before they even hit these sites.

You should have mentioned about top altcoins according to you and the reason why you support them. For me, Ethereum will benefit a  lot from next bull run. This is because it is being used in a number of projects and has got real time application. There is no hype of fluff associated with this coin. It is based on real case usage.

The reality is that there is not really any way to obtain those profits without taking huge risks, so whether a person is thinking about investing in shitcoins or about trading bitcoin and use leverage, both methods are very risky, and that is when we need to wonder if it is worth it to do this? 100% aligned with your opinion as there are factors like tokenomics which define what is possible what is not, I am purely referring to those new tokens with huge supply and price promise if we calculate them they estimate that surpasses Bitcoin market share. It's a human nature that they assume anything priced lower has high possibility of increasing by multiple folds, but whoever has tried this method would have always had to swallow the bitter pill including myself and we are more realistic now than every after witnessing multiple bull and bear market.

It pains me to see how people are making same mistake by reinvesting into FTT which has already abandoned us, until we have people like these it would be a cake walk for scammers to loot us in the name of Altcoins and false promise. Meaning that they're looking at volume instead of value, in the end bitcoin that has value will outlive the altcoins. My understanding is that anywhere that there is quick cash, you'll realize that it comes with greater risks, so bitcoin investment, requires the investor to accumulate and hold for a long term term, and when perfect opportunity comes, like during bull run, the investor sales and makes huge profit.

agreed, investing in coin with low liquidity, simply means we are donating money in these coin, the dev of the coin gonna dumps, some random holder also gonna dumps, there'll be no way for us to dump our coin afterwards, so we are basically donating our own money away for some random people, stick with coin with real use case, stick with coin that could make their way up to top 200, then its far better.

Like people have pointed out. Amount of digits of single coin doesn't matter at all. But imho they are right in a sense that investing to bitcoin might not bring you 1000x profits, or even 10x profits unless inflation eats everything and bitcoin rises in fiat money value. But that's doesn't happen in short term. Because if there would be hyperinflation event it would not only destroy markets as we know it, it would most likely wipe the cryptocurrencies as well, as people would start to invest in something worth value to everyone.

But altcoins in short term still can make you rich if you choose right one in right time, while it still has low marketcap. Or you invest to something that starts burning a lot of coins at some point.

Eventually I'd have to diversify and invest in altcoins, but I'm going to be very choosy when I do so, because I'll not want to gamble my small fund. A lot have been said about new altcoins, how their high profits can turn to lose overnight, and their value becomes worthless, I know that this theory doesn't apply for the whole new altcoins, but I'm not one to take high risks.

That's the reason why most of the newbie investors are losing because they enter the market when bitcoin price is bullish, and because its quite expensive, resorting into altcoin investing could be their best option. I would suggest sticking to top Altcoin and Bitcoin.

That's the reason why most of the newbie investors are losing because they enter the market when bitcoin price is bullish, and because its quite expensive, resorting into altcoin investing could be their best option. At first, the idea might be working but when the market suddenly crash and altcoins prices have been dropping so badly, that's when they realized that risking their money into altcoins is not worthy and might only put them at the losing end, losing their money that were supposed to risk in bitcoin.

However, we can't blame that as they only invest at a beginner's point of view. Without prior research and making them totally aware how altcoins can be tricky and deceiving, these newbies will definitely end up quitting after losing significant amount.

Yeah it's sad to see so many newbie losing money and i have personally tried stopping few from investing when Bitcoin is at peak but we fail besse of peer pressure and the kind of hype and attention it gets when it's at peak and people anyways end up taking entry at the peak market season, Altcoin I wouldn't recommend newbie unless we are at the rock bottom of bearish market and that too with few conditions. Not all the altcoins are risky there are altcoins that outperforms bitcoin in terms of returns but we need to do our research, for example I entered SOL when it was around $8 not because I though it would cross $250 like it did last time but I knew atleast it would give 3x to 4x and it happened. Newbie just need some more market exposure and how market trend. I am aligned with your response.

Eventually I'd have to diversify and invest in altcoins, but I'm going to be very choosy when I do so, because I'll not want to gamble my small fund. A lot have been said about new altcoins, how their high profits can turn to lose overnight, and their value becomes worthless, I know that this theory doesn't apply for the whole new altcoins, but I'm not one to take high risks.

As I stated in my previous post, I'll only go for top altcoins, nothing more. Maybe when i start with them then I might consider stretching my diversification into other altcoins.

As I said before, my venture into altcoins will start with Ethereum, BNB and other top altcoins, gradually I can be going down the ladder of altcoins as they are listed in Coingecko.

It would be good if you choose the top altcoin as your investment and consider each altcoin you choose. Don't just get caught up in altcoins that don't have good development. Diversification is necessary, but diversify into altcoins that are proven to be good.

Thanks for seeing this through my lens, it won't make financial sense if a guy like me that doesn't have much  capital should choose a higher risk investment that has potential of losing my capital, in the name of making more profit.

If the coin turns around unfavorably then it's all back to square 0, and that kind of risk doesn't work out for me, so that's why I'll rather put my money on where I'm quite certain that I'll have ROI even if the profit will not reach that of the promises of hyped altcoin projects.

I have made several mistakes in regards to this, before now I always see that bitcoin price is too epensive to afford and when I noticed that apart from bitcoin there were many other cryto currencies to invest in, so I decided to buy those altcoin because I see them cheaper not consedring the market cap and dominance. infact these factors i made mention was not in my mind and morover, how would I have known such thing was the factor to consider before buying a coin. Consedring the level of my understanding then. After buying them and expecting them to boom dey crushed to zero so when I came yo this forum I was able to spot the difference of coin that has potential and the ones with zero potential.

Almost everyone has felt the same way and you are not alone in feeling that way because I also in the previous few years always leaned on altcoins because I thought bitcoin was something I couldn't touch but the losses we got in altcoins made me realize enough that I made a mistake where I didn't do what I really had to do from the start (being in bitcoin) and instead chose some unclear projects which is the best experience that what we did in the past will eventually be a good experience for us to apply in the future so that things like that don't happen again.
It's been a few years that I've been in bitcoin and started to reduce my activity in altcoins and maybe even for this year I've never been in altcoin even because of my focus on bitcoin and right now I'm quite comfortable with what I'm doing.
Not that I invite you all to be in bitcoin and leave altcoin because it is your right to be anywhere but if you really want to be in altcoin then you have to be more careful because the risk will be much greater and keep the main focus is bitcoin first.

The logic behind investing in altcoins may seem to make all the sense in the world, as with a higher volatility and a lower market cap the greater the potential rewards can be for the traders that take the risk of trading those coins, however the potential losses people can accumulate are huge as well, and when compared to the safer road which is to just invest in bitcoin and hold for a long time, many traders begin to question their decision to go for altcoins when such a good alternative is available to them.
