I don't really know how you came to the conclusion that they don't really need what they are buying. Using your father's grocery shop as an example is not valid because groceries are an essential need. Usually, people always buy what they need at the end of the month when they receive their pay. My family makes a list of what is needed for the month and it is bought immediately after salaries are paid.

There are also people that a wasteful spenders. They don't plan how to spend what they earn and don't even save for the future. I think because that's the time that they are able to do grocery shopping and paying bills because they're already paid from their hard work and that's normal for a people who's having a stable job. If you are saying this only because they were buying luxurious things then it is normal for most people to act like this when they get their salary. We shouldn't look for a luck to survive and for current harsh economic condition of the world we should find multiple ways to earn money. What's valuable to you is what is very valueless to another person. I know that some people are actually living an extravagant lifestyle but I have never seen anyone buying what they don't need. And again, our priority varies and we can not dictate to people how to spend their money especially when they are grown up adult and responsible. One thing I can’t say for sure is, either it is them buying what they need or just spending money on what they don’t need. People have different needs and people have different perspectives on their money, people who solely live on their own have fewer things needed but others have families so the number of foods, stocks and needs increase as per requirement for their sustainability. Its still good if your country is the one keeps exporting this makes your country increase the GDP or the economy due to a number of demands of your product but other than that this could lead to the number of hoarding if the product is too much demand for used. Every payday people most likely immediately budget all the things, bills, expenses, food, allowance, and etc so expect every payday there's a wave of people keep making groceries for their needs and of course currently we expecting a 13th month if you have a job that gives you more than your current salary as bonus of your work for whole year.

Usually things like that can happen because it is a need or it is just a desire. Some people have a monthly shopping agenda where when they get a salary they will do some monthly shopping for their daily needs that month. Some people tend to have a desire and when they get a salary, it is like they have the authority to achieve their desire.
Maybe we are in the same country because usually government employees in our country also get their salaries between these dates and indeed as a trader I can feel that there are days when sales are higher than usual.

My parents used to always shop for basic necessities monthly when they just got their salary at the beginning of the month, they would definitely set aside half of the money to save as savings so that when an emergency happened, we wouldn't have money difficulties and because my parents get a salary on a regular monthly basis, it is better to spend on a month's needs rather than buying them on a daily basis and currently I actually also apply the same thing, I shop for my family's basic needs weekly because my partner and I earn money regularly weekly, we save the rest for our future needs. spend the money you get for your important daily needs then save the rest, that's the teaching my parents keep telling me.

I really hope all people have the same mindsets except for those rich people since they already have the luxury to do it anytime. Buying supplies daily or a few days in between is somewhat costly and time-consuming compared to buying weekly or monthly. I also buy my supplies every month and some of them are even good for over a month. There are also discounts when bulk buying. Saving is a must for a normal family and companies and institutions should always remind their workers about it. So I believe people only buys what they are in need and they buys them at when they can afford it which is when they earns their pays.
