From the OP, it is obvious that the friend of his was an ardent gambler, possibly with no gambling precussionary rules like; ensure you gamble on a budget.

I know of people who gamble responsibly, they commit just a fraction of their earning to it and gamble responsibly, they also don't see it as a source of livelihood, hence, they maintain the rules they've set as pertaining to their budget towards gambling.

If you are not conscious of all these gambling rules for safety then you might get ruined by gambling.

when you realized the real meaning of this sarcasm, it shows about what is the possible effect of being a gambler, It may cause you a positive effect like winning for the first time huge prizes but the majority is all about negafive effect of it just like the sarcasm stated above. As soon as I started to read the joke and I knew it was about gambling I could sense there was going to be some tongue-in-cheek scenario.
I personally do not have any joke to share related to gambling and even though we all can agree some joke about gambling is innocent enough; keeping in mind there must be addicted person in this section of the forum who may actually sold part of their possesions to pay for their gambling debts, then joking about something as harsh someone could relate to may trigger them to feel bad or depressed about their situation.

Was likely a trend on social media in my country when the online cockfighting was a trend during the quarantine days when COVID was still a thing and yeah those are hilarious jokes.
