This is a remarkable memory, and it's a good one indeed. I have tried to remember a few of my old crypto accounts that I opened over the years when I started the crypto journey, but all led me to a dead end, and the few I tried to gain access to were all with zero balance.

I could remember that my first account back then was with blockchain, if I'm not mistaken, and I used to exchange a few cryptos in that exchange, and I was not certain if I had a few cents left there then or not.

Another bad experience I have that I lost completely was that of one old exchange. I can't even remember the name again, and they have shut down. I have a few dog coins in that wallet, and when I try to access it, the site is already down. To get access back to fund, the kind of questions I was asked were things I could not even remember at all as it has been a long time since I used the exchange.

This put a huge smile on my face, because it is the EXPENSIVE holiday season and I need all the money that I can get to fund this silly time of the year.

Have you experienced the same thing..... please share your story with us.  Wink
Congratulations on finding your own funds which you have forgotten It indicates luck works in a way like did you know you should check emails, or check spams, you must have another thing on your mind but there you find this like and found money in that platform too. Luck always work like that, I have observed it few times even experienced it.

But unfortunately, I don't get to have huge money, that I will become that happy on finding, and you did not mentioned the platform neither showed any image proof then how ew can say you r story is legit. Even if you have become legendary member and have spent a lot of time here but it does not mean that you will not fulfill the basic requirements to verify things. Not trying to be rude you are my senior I did respect my seniors.
I have stories but only bad ones, because I rarely remember if I have invested in any token when BTC was at it lowest in my time, like when I joined the crypto market. Even if I have remember, I am not getting any profit because I lack some luck .

I once found 2000+ dollars that I left on an account on Bitstamp and forgot, lol. Now that I think about it, my attention was caught due to an automated E-Mail as well.

So my situation was very similar to yours.

It was money that I left aside for hodling but I hodled it so long that I forgot about it. I think it was below 200 USD when I started off. I must have just forgot about it after a while and stopped using Bitstamp. There is absolutely nothing more to that story. It was all due to my sheer laziness of not writing down where I put my stuff. In this case, my money, but I am pretty sure that I am one of the few people in this world that could lose a car because they forgot where they parked it.  Roll Eyes Tongue

Same happened to me there was my old wallet which I forgot for a long time. And when I came to know about its phrase then there were just present my 0.1 btc in it and thus I was surprised there.

After that I withdraw that fund and then give party with those money to my friends and my family. Also give some money to the poor people of my area.

By the way finding an old wallet and getting the money which we have in that is so amazing.

I had such an experience just few days back, I signed xeggex exchange when the exchange newly launched, I deposited some a very small amount of coins on the exchange and trade for a while there, but later on stopped and abandoned the exchange due to low liquidity and trading volume.

It's been years, I can't really remember the particular year this was, but I know it's been a while really. So just few days ago, I was browsing through a telegram group and saw someone mention the exchange in his comment, I then remembered the I had an account on this exchange a long time ago, and possibly traded there, I decide to check the exchange out, I opened the site and reset my password since I've forgotten the previous one, successfully logged in and discovered I have about $80 worth of coins there, I was really happy since I wasn't expecting anything of such, I quickly placed a withdrawal request which was accepted and processed almost immediately.

Honestly, you lucked out big time in this situation.  I mean realistically, if folks leave their crypto forgot in some online account, they're pretty likely to lose it.  I'd say take em off there quick as you can, from those digital wallets and whatnot, even if we're talking small amounts. Stick 'em in your own personal wallet where you won't lose track.

Nice, usually we've got websites that have deposited our Bitcoins back then or the same goes to the web wallets that we've got.
Try sweeping all of your accounts and maybe some of it still had the loaded bitcoins that you did before.
@OP, that's like a good bonus for you coming this holiday season.  Grin

This happened to me a few months ago, I was going through some of my old wallets as I had forgotten if I had anything there, so I was looking into them just to see if I could find some hidden treasure, and I did, and while not a lot of money, thanks the growth bitcoin has gone through the past years the amount was good enough, now since I had those coins in self-custody I did not saw the need to move them, but if the need arises now I know I have some extra money there I can use when I need it.

This has happened to me, too, although I would need to go through hoops to get the money.

It was for a local exchange that banned my account because I failed to provide proof of funds within their given time period. It was during the time when Bit-X was still around and I was depositing 0.5 btc in a month - obviously a long time ago. I failed to withdraw 0.09 btc in there and kind of forgotten that it existed because back then, 0.03 btc is negligible, and can be had for a week on signature campaigns. Fast forward 6 years, I received an email from that local exchange inviting me to their VIP Program. I logged in, and lo and behold I still have that 0.09 btc in there, although I obviously can't do something about it due to my account being banned.

I asked the support team on what to do in order to get those funds. They said I would need to provide proof of my funds during the period that those bitcoins were deposited. Unfortunately for me, I closed my account on the bank that I used to transfer funds from the exchange, and it will require a lot of back and forth with the bank to just get my statements. That $3400+ is still in there, and I tried contacting the branch of the bank that I created my account with but stated that they will have to raise my case with their HQ as it has been 4+ years since the account was closed, and that records may be kept in a database that cannot be accessed without the help of an attorney.

Hopefully I get to recover that bitcoins, though with the costs entailing the process, I doubt that it will be worth it.

Speaking of past accounts, it's like looking for a gold needle in a haystack and if you're lucky you'll get the gold.
Starting all the crypto work in 2016 there are already many wallet and Exchange addresses that I use.
Almost all exchanges, I have to accept airdrop payments and dozens of Bitcoin and Altcoin addresses.

A few years ago Finding Bitcoin with hundreds of dollars in Bittrex's account (now closed) and the rest of the altcoins airdropped which of course the price is much increased.
And this is not the only one, checking many addresses that I use, found a lot of junk Altcoins that are mostly worthless, But there are some that can still be sold and even that can reach thousands of dollars.

But there is something sad, when knowing that one of the Altcoins that uses QT Wallet is not found the Seed Phrase, namely the Raiblock Project which has now been rebranded into a Nano Coin with a price as high as $27.
https://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/nano/

When the price was high, I couldn't find the Seed Phrase wallet, so it was forced to be abandoned and could not be opened and had to lose hundreds of thousands of dollars.

I've used old wallets in the past, as well as joined other affiliate programs in exchange for cryptocurrencies before 2017, but the thing is that I don't really have any particularly nice memory surrounding these old accounts, for the most part, all of them I already forgot the credentials so there's no way for me to actually access them anymore. Another would be the fact that this was basically before I knew the ins and outs of the crypto industry, so oftentimes I found myself falling for blatant scams (cloud mining platforms for that matter) as well as those spam emails you get where they say you won some random amount of bitcoin even though you never even signed in to their site lol.

In any case, it just sets the environment for me, prolly why I became so wary as well over the years of what I click on the internet.

Have you experienced the same thing..... please share your story with us.  Wink

I experienced such a thing in several occasions.  The first one, I am able to retrieve the coins because I was on time retrieving the funds but on one platform, I was devastated because I was late in claiming my funds.  It holds 6 years of daily auto-claim amounts of altcoins, especially Dogecoin.  I tried to contact support but obviously, there is no more reply because the service had been shut down and a month had passed after the deadline of retrieving funds.

One lesson learned here,  always enable notification of our online accounts so that we can react in time if things like this happen.  @OP is lucky to be able to read the notification on time but of course, it is not always like this that we are lucky to read deadlines so a notification about our account activity should always be enabled.

This is a big win. Are the funds inside that platform still worth it today? Maybe you can share some digits  Cheesy
I also experienced this before, on some exchanges but the amount is not really huge, and not too long ago like more than 5 years same with OP.
So if you have fund that you forgot 5 years ago and you believe the value is likely too much high that you didn't expected, then you are lucky.

Well, if this story is true, then you are very lucky. I guess I've heard a lot of stories similar to this, mainly because in the past, bitcoin had its value but not enough for people to take it seriously, so people tend to horde bitcoin but leave it there until they forget the account or the password to the account, and eventually, after some years, they will remember that they have bitcoin that they accumulated in the past. If this story is true, then you are one of the lucky ones that still have access to your sleeping bitcoins. It's good to see such stories, and I envy them as I started late in bitcoin, but what's important is how you will make yourself earn bitcoin nowadays. But if I did invest in bitcoin in the past I don't think I will have this kind of story like in OP, because from hte start I really manage all my access to any of my accounts.

The joy in such forgetting, is in the withdrawal of such funds after letting it mature enough.
It's the best way to DCA and it is sure going to be a profitable assets when withdrawn after a long while.

Everyone should learn to invest in cryptocurrency and forget the asset until a further basis when it is needed and then even when liquidated, it should become a habit to DCA on regular basis.

Have you experienced the same thing..... please share your story with us.  Wink

I can imagine your happiness right now, like getting a sack of treasure when looking for a needle in a haystack,
I've also experienced this, but it's different from you, I'm only in Doge, I forgot that I ever placed a trade with Doge in one of the markets, I don't know, maybe I forgot I ever made a transaction there, even though it's not much, it's very valuable when it's quiet, earning money in a bear season like this.

This put a huge smile on my face, because it is the EXPENSIVE holiday season and I need all the money that I can get to fund this silly time of the year.
Nice to hear such story and timing for the current season. Good thing you're able to recover your funds from your forgotten account.

Have you experienced the same thing..... please share your story with us.  Wink
This is a bit different because it's not forgotten, instead, I lost my private key of MEW due to negligence where I have a decent holding of tokens and ETH few years back (this is during the hype of ICOs IEO). I already lose hope searching and gave up. After moving on (it took months), unexpectedly I found my keys written on a piece of paper with my other important documents. You can imagine how happy I am during that time.

I'm happy for you that you got some money for your holidays. The exchanges aren't safe but I have also experienced a similar thing in 2020 when I found that I had around $90 in my Bitfinex account that I left in 2018, I know that amount isn't high by any means but at least it gave me hope that sometimes our assets can be safe with a few exchanges. I have had a lot of coins on another exchange and when I visited that exchange I found that the exchange was shut down and I have lost all of my coins that I stored on that exchange.

Fortunately, some of my funds were also present on Binance which weren't affected at all. I can say that going with trusted exchanges is still okay but going with new non-trusted exchanges is quite risky and anyone who allows their coins on those new exchanges may end up loosing them if he/she comes after a year or two. I still won't recommend to store our coins on those exchanges as they can go away with our coins anytime and we can't do anything other than regretting.

Good thing that this isn't going to be happening anymore because people that get in bitcoin already knows the worth of bitcoin and the value of hodling so we can be sure to know that it's going to be impossible that people that have an account or online wallet somewhere that has a considerable amount of bitcoin isn't going to be forgetting their log in credentials there anytime soon. No need to be envious of them, we have our own paces in our bitcoin journey and it just so happens that some people have been introduced to bitcoin sooner than the others when it was at a lower price, just think of it this way, that in the near future other people will be envious of you because you've started investing in bitcoin when it was still around 35k.

So, I was just opening my email today....and browsing through the spam and the unsolicited junk email and phishing scams, when my eye caught a name that I have not seen in a few years. I clicked and opened the email and saw that it was a site that I joined over 5 years ago.. but I totally forgot about it.

This email warned me that the site are going to delete all the dormant accounts, so I navigated to the site (manually... not clicking on links) and tried to login. I obviously forgot the password, so I clicked on the "forgot password" option and it allowed me to change my password.

To my surprise, the account was still funded with coins that I deposited almost 5 years ago... and it was worth considerably more now... than what it was worth back then. (I think the Bitcoin price was around $7000+ at the time)

This put a huge smile on my face, because it is the EXPENSIVE holiday season and I need all the money that I can get to fund this silly time of the year.

Have you experienced the same thing..... please share your story with us.  Wink

I haven't experience it yet but It is good to know that you are able to retrieve your account, You're still lucky because 5 years has been passed and you can still claim your own money which has a high value now. very timing that holiday season is coming, enjoy your money and I suggest to keep half of your btc again so that you'll still have your investment and  keep your account and password now so that you will not forget that you have a holdings.
