To earn merit on Bitcointalk is not easy. Not that it is not easy like it is not easy, but not easy because it is not a day job at all. The process can be enjoyable but it will take a long period of time before this can be achieved.
Are there members on this forum that are not merit sources that have earned over 5000 merits.
I am thinking that someone like cygan has been there but I do not know if he is a merit source. hosseinimr93 is almost about to get there before 3 to 6 months time passes by. Is there a way I can know non merit sources and their rank in number of merits?

If the number of merits sent is greater than half of merits obtained (+ airdrop sMerits,) then that account is a merit source. Otherwise, without confirmation by the account holder, all possibilities remain open. What will you benefit from this list, because there are already similar lists?

Are there members on this forum that are not merit sources that have earned over 5000 merits. Check the top 37 of this list, and compare it to this list. It's not conclusive, but it'll send you in the right direction. I get: gmaxwell, icopress, xhomerx10, satoshi, cygan, n0nce, Rikafip, GazetaBitcoin, DaveF, stompix, Hhampuz, achow101 and nc50lc.

Are there members on this forum that are not merit sources that have earned over 5000 merits. Here is a list of users who have at least 5000 merit. Some of them are not merit sources and you will find them there. My guess: Hhampuz, n0nce, Rikafip, cygan and icopress are not merit sources, but maybe some other users are also no longer as merit source like Symmetrick. o_e_l_e_o LoyceV fillippone Symmetrick theymos El duderino_ DdmrDdmr pooya87 JayJuanGee LFC_Bitcoin suchmoon gmaxwell dkbit98 BlackHatCoiner nutildah 1miau Pmalek icopress xhomerx10 NotATether ETFbitcoin philipma1957 satoshi TryNinja mikeywith cygan n0nce The Sceptical Chymist Rikafip GazetaBitcoin DaveF stompix bitmover NeuroticFish Hhampuz achow101 nc50lc |

Hey all
1. Who is a merit source? Could someone send me a relevant thread where I can get this info? 2. For every 2 merits I receive, I can send 1 merit. Does this change over time?

1. Who is a merit source? Could someone send me a relevant thread where I can get this info? See: I will not be posting a definitive list of merit sources (so that people don't bug them too much), though you'll soon figure out who they are if you pay attention. 2. For every 2 merits I receive, I can send 1 merit. Does this change over time? Not until now.

Oh ok, so it was theymos who gave extra merit to some users in order to spend it wisely. I thought there was a process (an algorithm) that determines whether someone is eligible to become a merit source. Thanks anyway

I believe that most members who have more than 5000 merits are either merit sources or very reputable members of the forum who have contributed a lot to the forum. We may see so many members at 5k merits in the end of 2024 as the members who are daily contributing to the forum will get merits as appreciation for their posts.
I highly agree with Hugeblack that when someone's sent merits are higher then the recived ones then that member is a merit source. I believe that many members who are above 3k merits are also mostly merit sources. I won't say that there aren't normal members having that many merits but I guess that out of 10 there 7 would be merit sources.

Yes they are actually airdropped extra smerits for distribution to my guess it is monthly, the number of smerits distributed to the merit sources varies maybe because of the boards they are assigned (merits sources are assigned to different boards). The merit sources are actually hand picked by Theymos through their applications, here is how to apply to be a merit source If you want to be a merit source:
1. Be a somewhat established member. 2. Collect TEN posts written in the last couple of months by other people that have not received nearly enough merit for how good they are, and post quotes for them all in a new Meta thread. The point of this is to demonstrate your ability to give out merit usefully. 3. We will take a look at your history and maybe make you a source.

Today is obviously the day of stupid questions because they are all over the forum and really don't make any sense. What on earth does it matter whether someone has earned 5000 merits, and whether or not he is merit source - he won't assign merits to himself (nor can he even if he wants to).

1. Who is a merit source? Could someone send me a relevant thread where I can get this info? A thread like this one created and maintained by Coin-1 will help you figure out who the merit sources are: TOP 200 merit senders. It's in Russian, but you shouldn't have difficulties to understand the data in the tables. It's a top list of users who distribute the most merits each month. Since merit sources have the most merits, it's only logical to conclude they will be at top of such a list. You can also make a quick manual check. If you suspect someone to be a merit source, just check their profile on BPIP. If there is a significant different in the number of merits they send compared to what they receive, it's also a sign that they might be a merit source.

Thanks mate, yeah I will only look at the tables. However, to be honest, I didn't really wanna know who the merit sources are, but rather who is called a merit source. Anyway, thanks for the info.

The merit sources are those members of the forum who get free sMerits on their accounts. If I'm not wrong then they get monthly a set or a variable amount of sMerits that they can send to the members who make good and contributive posts on this forum. A merit source is basically someone who gets Smerits out of thin-air but other users have to get two merits in order to have 1 sMerit. I hope now you understand that who the merit sources are and why they are present on this forum.

A merit source is basically someone who gets Smerits out of thin-air but other users have to get two merits in order to have 1 sMerit. I hope now you understand that who the merit sources are and why they are present on this forum. For absolute clarity, it's important to distinguish two types of merits: sMerits and source merits. They are not the same thing. An sMerit is a sendable merit. Two received merits generate one sMerit that you can send to another account. Source merits aren't sMerits. It's a unique balance of merits that only merit sources have. So if my monthly allocation of source merits is 200, the merits I give to other users will first be taken from that balance. My sMerits balance remains untouched until I have allocated all my source merits. It's actually quite common that a merit source who receives a lot of merits ends up with hundreds or thousands of sMerits because he isn't in the best position to spend those due to his source merit allocation. I think LoyceV mentioned he has over a thousand of sMerits at one time in the past. I am guessing it's several thousands now. @LoyceV have you reached 5000 unallocated sMerits yet?

Thanks for the information as only merit sources can have such information because they are the ones who get those monthly allocated merits for them. I thought that the merits the merit sources get is same as sMerit that we gain when someone sends us 2 merits but now I know that the merit sources can have two types of merits that they can send. Although, the receiver can't know that the merits he/she receives are from a merit source's monthly allocation or from sMerits that he/she has earned because of his/her contribution. But, I'm pretty sure it's a good information for us to know and I'm happy to hear that from you. I truly appreciate it!

You wont find a list with all of them.... But, you can get some info here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=merit;stats=sourcesMerit sources There are 109 merit sources with a total merit generation of up to 33140 sMerit per 30 days And here, list of most generous users sending merit https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=merit;stats=topsendathttps://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=merit;stats=topsend

All users on the list can be confirmed as merit sources - but the full list is here: Bitcointalk Merit Dashboard - RankingSome of the most generous senders in the last 30 days are not merit source - I think so, I mean PrivacyG, icopress, jokers10 are not merit source.
Is there a way I can know non merit sources and their rank in number of merits? There are 3 tools you can use to get it: 1. BPIP 2. Loyce.club 3. Bitcointalk Merit Dashboard
