The better your posts are and useful, the more chance you are likely to earn merits. Just focus on bitcoin boards and choose the ones that you have interests in and also the boards that you know that merit source use to visit often and give some posts merit. Do not spam but let your posts be useful. Merit are given to quality posts.

Merit is needed to rank up and it can be given by anyone who has it to give. As far as the quickest way to earn it, don't worry about trying to earn it. Just post normally and be helpful on the forum and participate in conversations where you are knowledgeable. Merit will come when it comes.

make it thought provoking about something thats interesting/informative that no one thought of before
use stats,facts and details to back up what your saying
.
if its boring stuff thats been said before or not really saying anything new or interesting you wont get any recognition

When you don't have much to contribute or add to others, most times just asking the right question can genuinely earn someone merit that they never expected. Earning merit is as simple as that.
 
One thing is that you can either be a problem solver for others or provide solutions to those who are in need of answers, and if they find your answer interesting and educational, then there is a higher chance that you will be rewarded with merit for your effort. You can also earn merit by just asking questions, which can help others understand things better too.

You can't force nature, merit is nature. It's about people who are finding your posts useful, constructive, or a good contribution to the forum in some way. You can't force this and you will find that you will earn less merit, make less quality posts and hurt your reputation if you intentionally are posting/looking for merit.

Here are some tips:

• Make constructive and informative posts that others have not yet made in the thread. If you are active, you will generally have more chances of providing original and constructive posts before other members.
• Naturally participate in the forum - join conversations where you can contribute any form of value (knowledge, questions, social value) - There's no point trying to force yourself to provide value. If you can't, learn from other posts instead.
• Be a good member - don't unnecessarily insult others, have good posting etiquette (grammar, use of bbcode, etc) and try to avoid drama - as a new member, it's probably best to keep your grievances with another member to yourself, there are a lot of children with power here and they will not hesitate to make your forum life less enjoyable and may even succeed in hurting four reputation. If you ever find yourself targeted, DM me and if you are right, I will happily bat on your side.

You are a newbie, but I see that you have already earned some merits. Just look at your merit earning history and you'll easily figure out which posts bring you merits the most.

The Forum merits are almost the same as retweets or upvotes on Reddit. The more actively you engage in different discussions and helping out other members, the more the chances of you getting merited by some member who will see the value in your post or reply.
Just keep it organic and don't even be bothered about earning as many merits as possible.

It's sent to you by those users who have sMerits and they send those sMerits to users who make good and informative posts and also to those members who regularly contribute to the forum.

Yeah, when someone posts high-quality stuff that contain valuable information then other users send merits to those posts which are somehow helpful for the community. If you make good posts then you'll get merits from all those members who appreciate your work. The better posts you make the more merits you earn. I suggest you to avoid thinking about merits as a newbie and focus on making good quality posts. Try to help others with your posts and then you'll see the merits flowing like air to you.

Don't beg for merits as that's not needed at all because if you make good posts then there are so many generous people on this forum who will send you merits.

I will say your first thread actually answers this, if you look at how informative the thread and how members responded to it by meriting then I would such type of thread or comments are what gets you merit. Also you can equally go through the profiles of high ranking members with lots of merit to see how they engage in the forum, the kind of posts they Make, the type of threads they create and boards that they engage in then you might find out to earn merits. The only advice is do not force it, because once you force it you might easily break a rule or two.

Be willing to learn.  Be creative and ask questions others are afraid to ask.  This is how I think I got most of mine at least.  You will get a lot of Merit forwarding knowledge you learned to other people who know less than you.

There are some users who earn a LOT of Merits through what looks like 'simple' threads.  A few dozen paragraphs, a few pictures and some BB Codes.  Seems easy, no?

But these posts often take a LOT of time to write and put together into an easily readable post that sparks curiosity and interest to the readers too.  Any of us can write posts but not many of us can make truly interesting threads.

You have a Merit to Posts ratio of around 4:1.  Keep it up.  This is the way you have to hold on to.

The purpose of merit is to prevent spam on this forum and make quality posters rank up. Merit is needed to rank up and calculation of it is merit count.

Merit can be earned through different ways but most through quality/informative posting and helping people. Since you're a new user another quick way to earn merit is through posting your PGP key by writing an encrypted message and sharing your best posts or threads.

Merits in general was set as a limit to help sweep away shitposter and spammers that is without merits you won't moved to the next rank and it's being gotten by being helpful to the community as quality post you describe already. In merits people don't just give it to you without any of your post worth receiving them so the more you become creative and helpful the more merits you received from fellow users over here.

You got quite a bit of merit on your first post here so I think you probably know more than most of the posters on this forum how to earn it.  You displayed that you had some knowledge and were actively seeking a solution, which brought out some good replies and merit.  I think you'll do just fine if you continue using the forum like that and don't worry about trying to earn more merit.  It will come as you post, regardless of what the topic is so long as you display that you're honestly presenting knowledgeable information on whatever you're discussing.

You will know about it after you are here long enough. Use your time in bitcointalk naturally to explore the forum, rules, rank requirement, merit system. Get familiar with prominent forum members, spend time to read their posts and analyze their merited posts. You will learn a lot from those merited posts, quality ones and will have idea to earn merit for your account.

I am not sure if you know but you posted this on the 14th of December and by that time you already had collected 15 to 17 merits on one your posts in the " Development & Technical Discussion" section.

Getting 25 merits from only 6 posts, especially when you have registered on this forum just 2 days ago, is pretty impressive and I don't think you should ask this question as you are doing better than any newbie i noticed getting so many merits in such fewer days.

Seems like you have good technical knowledge of Bitcoin and if you share this knowledge, it won't be difficult to collect merits.
