I was surprised to see that buying and selling accounts is not prohibited in this forum. But looking into it I only saw offers that looked like scams (based on the red alert that flags on top of them).

I'm not sure that why you are asking a question like that? I know that buying and selling of accounts isn't prohibited on this forum but it's highly disliked by the community and if someone buys or sells accounts then that member and the bought accounts will get tagged by the reputed members for that unethical action. Even from ethical point of view, something like that is not good and a good member who wants to be on the forum should never think about such things.

There are many good and active members of the forum who have contributed a lot to the forum. They get hurt when they see new users who came out of no where buying accounts from account sellers and then pretend to be ranked members by using those bought accounts. The quality of the posts will change when a new user uses a ranked account. People are only interested in buying ranked accounts because they want to earn a lot of money from signature campaigns.

There's nothing wrong in earning money from signature campaigns but only for those who have been active on this forum for a long time. They contribute a lot of information and knowledge to the forum via their posts. Someone with less knowledge can buy an account but it won't make that person a ranked person truly because the new person don't know much about Bitcoin or about this forum and is only interested in earning money. Such users tend to create more spam and they don't understand that what they are doing.

You are a newbie, you may not be knowledgeable about the forum or about the Bitcointalk community and that's why you are asking such questions. I recommend you to never do something that isn't ethical in nature because a human's ethics and moral values are more precious than anything. I think you already got your answer and that's why I suggest you to lock this thread for the good.

Some people may see it as a normal thing that goes on in the Forum but I don't know why such should be allowed to go on but you guys at the top knows best.
Another thing about sell account is that after selling an account to a different user, why can't the username be changed so that if anything goes wrong it won't be said that it was the previous user that did what ever went wrong? Can't something like that be done since it seems like 65% of the Forum members are in support of it.

Hey, leave OP alone, he is a newbie not familiar with how we do things here, if he merited his alt, doesn't matter, now he knows it's against community standards, from now on, he won't do it again.

So meriting to own accounts, selling accounts is against community standards, please refrain from doing that again.

At what point did you see and believe that he was a newcomer? We have ten newbies with extensive farming experience every day. Have you seen newcomers gain merit so quickly? There have been many liars on the forum pretending to be anyone, so it's worth reminding this newbie that "ignorance is no excuse." Now is the time of holidays, and we should close our eyes to many things, but to respect the members of the forum, you should adhere to the rules and therefore read them before doing anything.

I was surprised to see that buying and selling accounts is not prohibited in this forum. But looking into it I only saw offers that looked like scams (based on the red alert that flags on top of them).

So I'm wondering if there truly are account sellers. Or even buyers! Is this a liquid market? How much would someone pay on average for a M/Full M/Sr. M/Hero M/L account?
I just got to know that account selling and buying is allowed in this forum, it's been what almost 3 years now, that I have spent on this forum and till now I thought buying and selling was not allowed because whenever I saw a person buying or selling an account it got tagged and even red tagged, and after that there remains no use of the account. Well, I did some research from my side too and yeah, theymos has said that:
Quote
18. Having multiple accounts and account sales are allowed, but account sales are discouraged.

Well, this matter has been discussed hell lot of times, I can mention tens of threads here that you can look at to get your answer in full detail but to save you some time, I can give the answer to you. And that is, there are account sellers and buyers too (I think you also want to buy one, right?) well, I have seen two ads posted by IDK which member but they are selling accounts. You can check these two ads and the price they have asked (disclaimer: I am not suggesting or asking OP to buy anything from them, but it's just I came to know about this shit just now and after finding them here on BTT, I thought I should mention them so OP would have some idea) But the idea about what? That's how much he should pay for some X-rank account (that's bullshit).
I saw many websites they are trading bitcointalk accounts.
example:
Link1
Lnik2
I just wanna know that, is it legal to do in this forum ?!
I hope this questions answer could me to know about this related informations and others like me(Newbie)

These days I don't see any newbie as Newbie , I won't blame some of these people but I have that feeling that one day some silly questions will be asked by the supposed newbies and no one would care to answer.

I am just knowing that people are treated with leniency during the holidays, that's nice. By the way, the forum is becoming less powerful on a daily basis. If this was my newbie days, the Op might not survive this.

I don't seem to understand why we have brand new accounts created by existing members everyday and they go about acting like they don't know what goes on in the Forum, they ask questions they know the answers to.
There's no problem creating new account, as I am also certain that your account might be an alt and you might also not be a woman. Where I see the problem is pretending to be absolutely new in the forum when they are not.

These days I don't see any newbie as Newbie , I won't blame some of these people but I have that feeling that one day some silly questions will be asked by the supposed newbies and no one would care to answer.
There are still absolute newbies and saying that a newbie will drop a random newbie question without receiving an answer is something that cannot happen in the forum in as much as there's still signature campaigns paying for post quota.

I don't know what things are illegal in this forum. So please tell me if I broke any rules.
I discovered that you don't lose merit when sending merit. I read how smerit works. To test it out I created aleph1 to dump all my smerit in and recovered half of it.

This is merit abuse and you should not do it.
Many things are not mentioned in the official rules thread. Sending merits to your alt account is not forbidden in the forum. But, the community sees it as abuse because it IS abuse. The forum does not moderate scams. But you can still advertise scams and you won't get banned for that. But the community will likely give you negative feedback. Similarly, forum do not forbid account selling, but if you get caught buying/selling accounts, you will be tagged by the community members. There might be some other rules, but I do not remember them.

Now, one more important point. While some people speculate you are not a newbie but an account farmer, I would like to believe you are not. Judging from your merit history, you have some skills and you are likely to earn a lot of merits with the knowledge you have. Knowing programming is not everyone's job. If you know something special that everyone don't know, you can make yourself a special one. Try to contribute in this forum positively and you can become another discovery of the year.

I noticed that creating multiple accounts isn't an offense but using it to abuse the merit system is where the problem lies. And there's one thing thats normal in this Forum, and that's assuming what we don't know, that's what I love about life, what you don't know is bigger than you. I can't say much about you saying this is my alt. Good thing you used the word might .

Well I'll agree with you on that and even if there's no sig campaign I still think we have people who will have to drop answers, so I don't think is always about completing weekly quota, we have people that just love to post no matter what (being in a campaign or not).

It's up to the buyer and seller if they resort doing that but for me, it will be useless buying an old account since it's not the account that matters the most but your own knowledge and understanding on the different threads in the forum. Because if you are knowledgeable enough, you will easily rank up and gain tons of merits because your post are in high quality that others will highly benefit as well.

You might be wondering why someone wants to sell his account, probably because that has been red tagged already, or that account has been banned already in some campaigns. So you better think a lot of times if you still want to buy or just follow what everyone is doing, that is starting from a scratch and work on it to increase your rank or position in the forum.

Nobody will stop you from buying an account, regardless of the rank you want, but when you are done, you will never use the account again. Because I believe you will only buy an account to apply for a signature campaign, and when you get accepted, you start receiving payment weekly. Although it may be a nice idea to you, other forum members who know the consequences of such an act will not advise you to do so because it’s discouraging, and purchasing a bitcointalk account will not allow you to know the necessary things about the forum and bitcoin and cryptocurrency at large since you got your account with a high rank. You are only after money anytime you come online, which is not the main reason for the forum.

If you want to buy an account, just say directly that you are looking for someone who will sell an account, but don’t come out and say anything that happens between both of you in the process of doing such shit. However, nobody will tell you the amount of any rank you want; as you can see, this is not a market where you will see every single good with a price attached to it. If you buy an account once you are caught or when they see any changing of hands, the account will be tagged, and you will not get use of it again or participate in signature campaigns.

I don't seem to understand why we have brand new accounts created by existing members everyday and they go about acting like they don't know what goes on in the Forum, they ask questions they know the answers to.
Because it's a trick.

A newbie account named Bob created a new thread about what is merit, then he use his main account named Alice to answer it with long paragraph, this will make people to merit Alice, then both Bob and Alice will meriting each other.

Thanks to everyone who answered. I don't intend to buy any account. I'll keep asking whatever I want. And I'm newer to this than I was to s** at 16.
Or you intend to sell your account, calm down it just my speculation without any proof. Tongue

The rules state “Having multiple accounts and account sales are allowed, but account sales are discouraged.” Even though account sales is not prohibited, the community does not take kindly to account sellers/buyers. There is a 80percent chance of getting a negative tag if your account is proven to be sold. I’m yet to see a account sales thread on the forum where the OP hasn’t got multiple tags.

Why does the community do this? First you should ask yourself why would anyone want to buy a high rank bitcointalk account? Well the answer is to make money from signature campaigns, high rank means more pay. For this reason and more, account sellers/buyers are perceived as dishonest people whose motive for being here cannot be of any value to the forum.

I'm more thinking of 21,000,001 Bitcoins. By then my account is worthless anyway. Disclaimer: I saw this "offer" from an old account a long time ago, so the idea isn't mine but I forgot who it was.

I discovered that you don't lose merit when sending merit. I read how smerit works. To test it out I created aleph1 to dump all my smerit in and recovered half of it.
That's totally allowed, but heavily frowned upon. Almost as much frowning as you get when you buy an account.

Bitcointalk is a community. Account sales and meriting your own post are like cheating the community. It's up to you to choose which path you want to walk.

When I build an account

How many accounts have you "built" on this forum?

This is concerning. I know that people are allowed to have alt forum accounts, though I thought this was for the purpose of freedom of speech, so that you could express yourself without potentially effecting the reputation that you have spent time on building.

However, building, purposefully? Is this really something that is openly allowed and a norm on this forum (people purposefully building alt accounts)? What other reason could there possibly be for doing that in a pseudonymous way other than for profit? This has to be the most interesting comment I've read all day and I'm looking forward to seeing the responses to this post to learn more.

This forum never supports account trading. And those who send offers to sell accounts are scamming money from some stupid people. Again, it is wrong to say that Totally account is not bought and sold here. Here many accounts are seen changing hands and in this reason many accounts have been given negative and natural trust. So if someone wants to buy and use the account he will be caught. The type of posts of two people will never be the same, and the two will not have knowledge on the same subject, so if the account changes hands, the topics of the posts will also change.

Thanks to everyone who answered. I don't intend to buy any account. I'll keep asking whatever I want. And I'm newer to this than I was to s** at 16.
Nobody started off with the suspicions... You created an avenue for that and I can also add to that tune if I feel your reasons for asking is just as unethical as the question itself... Cus why would you wanna KNOW HOW MUCH AN ACCOUNT IS SOLD FOR?? Did anyone tell you they've been selling accounts and that they needed validations from you? C'monnn!! What's the resentment all about? You caused it...

Be mindful! The forum maintains anonymity and that  doesn't give people free role on knowing others personally; so people would rather prefer basing off Thier suspicions and assertions on the responses you make.....again, be mindful.

Is indeed a trick but no one can tell when it will happen.
Hmm, is the Alice an bob still active?
What you just said about Alice and bob do happen but one can't identify who really owns the account and I feel that's the abuse of merit we're talking about, it can't stop too quick even the use of AI to make the post look clean.

You are probably misunderstanding the whole situation. If you had paid more attention to the entire sentence, you would have realised I was just making an example rather than just quoting a few of the statements, making it sound as if it's a self-proclaimed word or confession, creating and seeing error where there is none.

It was an example like, if I am to do something today, create or develop a project, I do it in almost the same way as how I live my life, and if the account is to be handed over to another person, the account won't have the same value as it should have when it's being handled by me, who is the original creator and owner of the project or account in question. I don't see which part of this statement is so hard for anyone to understand.

OP I suggest you avoid dealing with account sellers. Most of them are scams, who would you hold responsible if the seller blocks you after payment? Make a thread about it here and you will get no sympathy from the forum.

Because it's a trick.

A newbie account named Bob created a new thread about what is merit, then he use his main account named Alice to answer it with long paragraph, this will make people to merit Alice, then both Bob and Alice will meriting each other.
Has anyone been caught doing this? Because its worth giving a neutral tag over, replying yourself in the comments is abnormal behavior.
