I have been gambling for a long time and I know that the end of it is bad. But when emotions are pouring it's difficult to stop and might as well lose everything than just lose a part of my wallet either half of it or just a minimum amount of the total balance. I'd rather risk everything slowly and try to win back whatever was gone through a safety method although I don't think one really exists. What I mean is just lessening the wagered amount and trying to recover it through that means. It worked out for me sometimes but I won't say it does save me every time.
I know some would double the bet to hasten the recovery but it's the other way around for me.

Not being able to control it and not being able to stop it for me is one way to become addicted, whatever the reason. When it comes to gambling addiction it is not something that can be easily stopped because when you addicted to gambling and you decide to stop it it takes more than the ordinary decision to stop gambling a lot of addicted gamblers today are not happy with their addiction I have tried in several ways to stop it but because it has eaten deep into their daily living, they still find themselves gambling uncontrollably even when they don't want to so. your own indeed is your enemy here. even regular gambler can't control themselves once they are in front of their screen or games. like for example, even me who only gambles from time to time can also have that kind of situation where i don't want to stop especially if i am on the losing side. it is like i am chasing my losses and just want to recover such losses, so the tendency is to continue my games.

On the time that you do find yourself not be able to stop on making up bet even if you are already on a huge loss, then this is a solid indicative sign that you are already addicted to gambling.

Self control is part of the ingredient when you want to gamble safely, we all know we want money but we should always draw that line. Gambling is fun but people take things to extreme. It their is that inbuilt consciousness that you should not pass this boundary then it will seriously be of help. I agree with you. To be unable to stop gambling signals compulsive or addictive behavior. The causes which took the gambler to that disfunctional practice must be investigated and addressed. Reasons can be biological or environmental, so it's not possible to define why a gambler is addicted without talking to him and searching for further elements which could be leading him to develop such noxious behavior. That is why therapists do an anamnesis before starting the treatment.

Causes can be vast and complex. There are many different hypothesis which could lead us to think why someone can't control himself: greed, escapism, pride, cry for help, financial difficults, stubbornness, meaningless life, brain dysfunctions...
