For me it's normal to see an elderly woman gambling. My concern would be only regards the environment she is in. There are gambling shops which are mostly frequented by men where I live, so I wouldn't feel comfortable seeing an alone lady there, especially when the shop isn't solely focused on bets, but it's also a pub. So the environment is really heavy and sometimes vulgar. Not the kind of place I would like to see my mother attending to.

Lastly, will you feel comfortable or worried knowing that your mother is a dedicated gambler; and if you feel worried are you worried that she may be losing a pool of cash or your worried because you fear for her health as gamblers can get negative emotions when losing money.

It depends what kind of gambler she is. If she is familiar with gambling since a long time and has never showed any addictive or harmful behaviors to herself, I wouldn't bother she is gambling as part of her distractions. There wouldn't be any reasons to worry about losing money, since she has her budget for that reason, and negative emotions are unlikely, as she is a long term gambler and gambling has always brought her exciting and joy emotions.

But that is my reality. Maybe in your country things work in different ways, due to personal challenges, difficults and financial barriers being tougher. If for some reason you think your mother or any other woman you love shouldn't be gambling, you have to explain her the reasons why you think so, and rationally you can reach an agreement.

Very odd but they do really visit out into these places yet gambling is never been that a gender focused type of thing, it is really just that unusual we do really find out women to be into these places.
If it turns out that your grandmother is really that going to the place on placing here bets then its not really that bad but it cant really be that avoided that we would really be having those worrying

My father is a gambler and my grandfather was a gambler too, I never worried about them while they are gambling because I know that they are responsible gambler.
I know they are responsible gambler because I knew that they are gambler since I was a kid and there was no time when my family was in a financial issue because of gambling.

it is not a problem to gamble until you are old, because there is no prohibition that old people cannot gamble. but what is worrying is that old people usually have illnesses which can recur when they experience constant stress or too much pleasure. by continuing to gamble, it could trigger the disease and it might get worse and lead to them dying on the spot. so if someone is old, they should reduce gambling at their vulnerable age because prevention is better than cure and it is better for gambling places to provide regulations that monitor older people who play at their place to prevent bad things from happening to them.

In my country there are many people over the age of 50 who get involved with lotteries and to date I have not seen cases in which they report that someone elderly has committed suicide because of the lottery. Honestly I will feel ashamed, but thankfully my mother never sits well with any form of gambling, she believes that gambling belongs to the devil and working hard belongs to be creator of humans, she always despise gambling, she believe that gambling is for the weak.

Firstly, my mother in this context I believe is way older, knows better and has had a past I may know nothing about in totality.
If I should see her gambling, I of course would be worried but it is to inquire as to why she is doing so, that would be my initial reaction. Perhaps she's bored or needs urgent cash for some problems I know nothing about or it has been a long addiction I never knew about.

Secondly, I have seen matured women or mothers play lottery games and even stake bets because it is quite cheap to play and it wouldn't be a loss to them, unless they bet big hoping to win and them run into loss.

I will be worried if I found my mother became a dedicated gambler, I never saw her gamble ever since I was young then all of a sudden she became a dedicated gambler.  I am not worry about the money she will spent, money can be earned but the effect of those frustrations of losing to her health will be worrying.  We all know frustration and stress can lead to depression especially when the person is heavily affected by his activities.  Depression if not treated well can kill or cause mental problem.

So as much as possible, if the situation happens, I will try to talk to her and convince her to gamble responsibly and don't get disappointed if she had losing streak, I will tell her that it is normal in gambling.

Why should I not be comfortable if she is gambling responsibly. But I will prefer she should do it online instead of offline using betting agent. i think there's nothing wrong with that. for all we know, that grandmother is just passing her time to this kind of entertainment. however, i can understand if people have negative stigma when it comes to gambling in public especially for an old woman. we are used to seeing the grandmother at home just doing her own chores and not gambling. but who are we to judge about someone else's pastime? right?

i guess, we just need to mind our own business on this aspect. worry, if the grandmother is creating a scene to the public and using someone else's money. this is the problem in our society. women should not be seen in public when it comes to gambling. but if you see a grandfather doing the same, people will just ignore him as it is like a usual scenario. so why not an old woman can have her pastime like this?

My level of comfortability will be based on how long she has been gambling. If she just picked up gambling after a life-changing event then I will not be comfortable seeing her gamble. I will be embarrassed if she does sports betting. It should not be seen of a woman particularly a married woman with grown up kids. Casino games like slots are more within my range of comfortability. I strongly believe that seeing myself in a casino will make people think less of me, it makes people look at you like someone who is useless, not to talk of you passing by and seeing your mother in a casino, you will feel like a train ran pass through you.

I am still in wonder about how people deduce the thought system that anybody gambling, that is, if they regularly see you walk into a gambling agent  shop to gamble they just believe you are jobless, useless and have nothing meaningful to do your time. But same people who has this assumption towards gamblers they know are still the same people that will run after you to request for money if they hear you have won a pool amount of cash from your bet.

It is for this mediocre behaviours of people that I don't bother myself about what others think or say about me walking into a gamble shop to gamble because tomorrow should fortune smile at me it is same people that will be praising me just so they can have a pinch of my winning money.

As gamblers let's learn to not mind what names people are calling us, our priority should be on gambling responsibly while we hope for the big win someday. Most of those people criticizing for gambling are also secretly doing some other thing very immoral and worse than gambling but they won't tell us.

People are really suffering in this world, they sometimes have no choice than to do something they never had in mind to do, it's not easy that's why elderly people are also trying their luck too.

Mate times are really hard that some persons doing even know where else to scout for money from and they had to fall back to gambling in the hopes that their lucky star may shine and bring them a live changing win from one of their many bets, and the elderly are not exempted in this.

But in the article, it says she was crying after losing an amount of money. I wouldn't be worrying if she wasn't crying and was just tired. One scenario I could think of is that the money she wagered is meant for something else and that going home would be trouble for her. She just lost an amount that isn't hers.
