There is a tendency to always think of newbies as possible victims, and we try to guide them, but one of the main mistakes is thinking that it will never happen to us, so, overconfidence is what we have to take care of.

The best scam is the one we don't know about, it's obvious, that's why you have to stay informed regardless of your level of knowledge and experience.

You nailed it mate. Even people who has knowledge about cryptocurrency  aren't safe because sometimes we are dominated by greed. I know people that are into crypto but still they fall victim to scams.

When it comes to scamming, I think everyone will fall as a target. So we should not be confident that only newbies are the apple of the eye of the scammers, there is no excuse to that. With or without knowledge, if we let our emotions overcome our own mind, then we will fall eventually on their traps.

Getting the right and updated information is the key. If we see things that are too good to be true, then avoid it immediately so we won’t fall into future scams.

If things are too unrealistic then trust your instincts and avoid from those platforms and projects. They want foolishness and greed from their victims. Of course they would make offers which can lure investors' attention for their own benefit. If it is with project's legitimacy then there are ways to basically lessen the chance of being scammed. Try joining communities inside and outside thiss forum. Also consider checking the project's platforms and look for reviews and opinions from its audiences. You may also consider directly asking in this forum for opinion and all of these won't cost you any dime. Solutions are not that expensive and sometimes all we need is eagerness and will if you are wanting to avoid those suspiscious crypto projects.

The more we think about money, the more possible we fall into scams because these scam projects offer good-to-be true rewards that could really tempt someone. And very unfortunate that this is what actually happened to most of us before we found out that it was a scam.

Legit projects don't offer huge shares but scam projects offer impossible things...it is easy to find them out unless we think always about money.

It is normal to expect for monetary returns when checking for possible projects to invest; that's the sole reason why you are investing anyway. Problem is with misleading information. Many projects are failing but that doesn't mean they are all fraudalent. There are instances people are confused of these two concepts. Scam projects are those which are not even finishing their token sale and those which are unresponsive when it comes to project's long term growth. Fortunately, I only encountered failing ones on my stay in this industry and never been a victim of scam related projects. Again, it is normal to be eyeing with profit however we shouldn't be too greedy of it that we would be "gambling" our money which is different from investing.

Well I would like to add that it's not only the new year that can guarantee people to such scams but I believe the upcoming bull season too is a centered area for scammers and I believe alot of us despite the warning will still fall victim because of the urge to get huge and quick profits maybe due to shit project that offers such opportunity for you. 👉get rid of your get rich quick mentality : I know a lot of persons would be expecting me to say read their whitepaper, but like I said this guys are getting more smart and making a good whitepaper with excellent road map and all would not be a problem to them. But thign I know they can't change so easily is their offers, they would always work on your greed, trying to entice you with silly offers that are so good to be true. I'm crying 😢 right now cause I also wished they were true, but sorry they aren't and don't fall to such this year.

👉 track their anonymously: so far I've noticed that most scams don't project any team members to the public and if they do they are mostly fake and this way could be very effective than reading a whole whitepaper. Check if the project has any real life representative and follow them up and see if they are posting in line with their big project in hand. Why i feel this is a good idea is because they are still afraid of the government too.

👉 yeah and  finally stop listening to influencers: many persons that have fallen for scam was found following one influencer or the other. Just know this people don't have you in mind and would promote any shit to get paid. Always do your own investigations if you must invest in any new project.

👉only invest in bitcoin 😎:  by know we all know that bitcoin is the only reliable crypto right now. And I have history to prove that, to me every other  project is not decentralized as they claim to be because they still have a kind of supervisory body even tho they claim not to, people did fund those projects remember and they would want something, nothing is free, no altcoin is completely decentralized.

 Whole bitcoin on the other hand is developed by the bitcoin community and even the creator has no hand in it again . Now there is something we can trust.

You are right about the influencers. Most of the influencers lie about the returns and scope of crypto to sell related services. These type of over promises are so much sugar coated that new investors easily fall prey to this. Government should have strict laws punishing these kind of influencers.

Also, there should be more awareness from investor point of view. If an investor is aware, no one can make him fool. He will remain financially sound and make better financial decisions.

I hope every country has the same regulations like the one on the US where influencers or promotors should be liable on their action if ever they promoted something that scam people. As far as I remember there are celebrities that paid the price on the court as they promoted scam NFTs on their own platform before.

Sadly, we don't have that kind of law on our country that's why there's a lot of influencers taking advantage of their reach to do paid promotions and some influencers doesn't even do a research on what they are promoting since it is riskless to them.

Most of the time we just learn when already commit mistakes and experience bad investments. And I've seen this most in newbies, I admit I have experienced it before which is why falling into scam projects seemed normal in the past but this time, I believe the information and experience shared by old-timers gives some ideas on how to determine a scam from project from legit one. That is why we can't blame the market for our losses but have to blame ourselves for being too careless.

In general, falling into scam projects is our fault and we should take action before it happens again. Maybe having the first time is acceptable but having in 2nd time, there is a problem with us that we need to correct as much as possible.

  Most of these influencer don’t even know what they are advertising if we want to look closely, they are just about their pay that’s all that matter them as long they stick to the script. And cause of this people have been lured to their downfall, now we see the effect of influencing, they don’t care if what they are promoting is killing the masses as long as their bankroll is topping up,  the funny thing here is that they may not personally want to get involve, some even know little or nothing about crypto and the space at large, they are some people who take these celebrities as their role model and believe everything they say, they fail to understand that these so called celebrities are just normal humans with same head like the rest of us and that they can do mistake as well. The best education are the ones we teach our self, your level of knowledge and confidence will be seen as unspeakable. We can try and do better for ourselves by doing our own assignment that is by doing our own research and getting the necessary information we need to begin our crypto journey.
   In my own opinion I think this influencer should be taken to law as accomplice together with the culprits, they should be aware of what they are signing up for before they agree to any contract. Spreading misinformation can  actually start a revolution and should be taking into consideration, no one is too big to fall into the trap of this culprits. Avoid the talks and put in the work, every thing you have to learn is in your reach.

Lot of really good suggestions and points you make here.  However I can't agree that you should "only" invest in bitcoin.  Yes, it's the king of all cryptocurrency coins, but there's other coins that I don't view as rivals that are worth looking in to (Monero, Ethereum, Litecoin etc).

It's true that scammers always have ways to make a profit, various ways that definitely have a plan, such as an airdrop with a small amount but don't remember whether the coin airdrop is safe. Wallet drain which is the main key for scammers to break into our wallets is very annoying. Bull season is a target for wallet theft. Scams have become rampant even in the previous years but most probably, since we are expecting bitcoin halving and eventually bitcoin bull run will follow, there will be more scamming incidents will most likely to occur prior to that. Scammers have been waiting for this opportunity for four years already, they know very well that during the next year, a great deal of new people will decide to give it a try and invest in this market, and since many of them will not know what they are doing they can be deceived very easily by them.

So we can only guess how much money is going to be scammed this time around, I just hope that more people learn from the past, read about all the possible scams they can face and protect themselves from all the false offers that will come their way.

OP, I read your post and it got me laughing when you said that most projects that scam are those that are anonymous, I can name few projects with anonymous team members that are topping on coinmarkecap ranks, and there are countless of crypto projects with team members that showed their faces even using Youtube videos and they still scam people.

I don't know if anyone remember one coin? It belongs to a female scammer who till today is nowhere to be found, she fooled everyone because she make her face public, this caught the attention of many people and they trusted her but the project exit scam.

Do not trust any crypto project because they have a visible team member, it is nothing, they can still pull the plug of scam from the wall socket and leave all investors in their sorrow, do your own research on any new or old crypto project and make sure you take profits when the price is pumping hard.
