Personally, I don't like the word Gambler tbh. And it feels more worse when someone calls someone a Gambler in the local language. I played some hands it's true and I tested many games for test purposes But I was never affected by the gamble. and I consider I am not a gambler myself. Verily I understand you clearly, the irresponsible and the addicted gamblers has tarnished the positive objectives and fund part of gambling whereas, people who doesn't gamble seems anyone who is a gambler as a wayward and irresponsible individuals due to the the facts that some gamblers where unable to take control of their emotions and on the process, their lives are ruined.
One thing is sure in life that bad personalities (bad names) are quick and easily speculated. So, the public are ignorant that there could still be responsible gamblers whom gamblers for fun neither do they not stake more than they could tolerate and maintains a reputable personality. The thing is that nomatter how we or you try to defined or twist this, it is definitely not going to make difference to the seight of the public. When you gamble, you are already called gambler. There are types of gambler, the negative one is an impulsive gambler, so as long as you don't fall to that group, you are still safe and you should not worry being called as a gambler, otherwise, if you are not comfortable with it, just don't gamble at all. Thing is my friend, you gamble risking your money to make money, and to have fun as well, so you are gambling because you believe it's not a bad thing, so you must be proud to be called as a gambler.

Most people consider the word gambler to mean irresponsible and wastefulness , because of the image that gambling addicts have given to it, they don't know that we have responsible gamblers that engage in it mainly for fun. Maybe you are not a gambler because your main purpose is just to test the game, but if you are risking money while testing the game, you can be considered as gambler as well.

For its general meaning, a gambler is someone who engages in activities in which there is an element of risk on both the player and the act. Anything can be considered as “gambling” as soon as there is risk which does not need any monetary aspect.

In this example, a person can be considered gambling even if they are not present in any gambling establishment.

Personally, there was a time that I considered myself as a gambler even if I do not frequent myself into visiting online gambling websites or physical gambling casinos. As long as I expose myself into a risky position where the result can go otherwise, that is considered as gambling.

Gambling definition is always incorporated with risk so if you are taking risk no matter what type of bets you are doing is already enough to consider you as a gambler. Being a gambler is not bad imho. Gambling is a conscious staking of something of value with the intention or hope of making more gains. When you put in money in a casinos bet shop with the intention of winning and making more money you are a gambler. You can be a an occasional, regular or addicted gambler based on how often you bet or your attitude towards gambling. I dont think there is anything wrong to be called a gambler. Rather one should be more concerned when he is called an addict.

I think it is risk concerning monetary activities. What about risk of being employed or not? Just to give a practical example and no means of being disrespectful. Not because you took the risk, you are already a gambler. In this instance, you are more likely just someone who bit the opportunity of being hired. Gambling could not involve money in some instances but as long as that thing wherein association and confusion takes place, it has two contrast parties or viewpoints, and guessing could yield to consequences , and lastly, having no assurance of the outcome, then that's betting. translated in the local language, it connotates a bad person. but there is sort of an axiom in my country where they prefer to be called names or just about anything than called "old man".

what about "bettor"?  it does not offend somehow.  there are lots of terms to it like staker, punter, speculator, or risk-taker which sounds a bit of a pro.

Gamers like playing games for the fun and challenge, whether it's a video game, a board game, a card game or whatever.  They might play online against others or just for themselves, but they ain't risking cash.  Though, someone gambling is taking a chance at games like roulette and poker where winning or losing money is part of the action.

Why? Is it due to the stigma your local society carries about gambling practice and its enthusiasts? So you feel inferiorized and marginalized by being called a gambler? Well, you shouldn't feel bad about it, since you aren't prejudicing others with your gambling habits, neither prejudicing your own life. People should learn to distinguish the problem gamblers from the average gamblers, who correspond to the biggest portion of them, and don't have any major negative consequences over their lives due to practicing this activity.

If someone calls me a gambler, I will tell them yes, I gamble from times to times, and even though there might be a law condemning such activity, plus society's common sense, I don't feel belittled or guilty of anything. Gambling is the minor of the issues if you analyze the whole society's problems, what means they are hypocrities by pointing their fingers to gambling, while corruption is going strong among authorities and businessmen, unemployment rates are high and people don't have access to quality health services. Gambling popularity rises only as consequence of those problems, as people are desperate to fulfill their necessities somehow, so they appeal to gambling as a last resource, even though they shouldn't do so.

It shouldn't be hard to define a gambler, and there shouldn't be any negative pre trials over someone for him being a gambler. Judgments and concerns should be strictly pointed to problem gamblers exclusively.
