If Bitcoin is illegal in your country then you should talk to the people around you, but if not then you should be proud.
There are some people who doesn't even have investment or other source of income but you are earning more to provide for your family.
If you are afraid to give out wrong info about Bitcoin just give them the lay out of how you understand it and tell them that it is how you see it, and if they want more information they are free to DYOR.

This is quite hilarious to start with, because in as much as the people calling your child Bitcoin have an awareness by that single deed, the child would automatically be interested in knowing more about it once he/she becomes of age.

I admire your stand in not shunning anyone who calls the child Bitcoin, because it would make you as the parent to invest more in BTC and as such strengthen your future quest  for wealth multiplication.

It is interesting, it's like in a community you'll be called for what you're known for. I find it scary when someone knows that I am into Bitcoin and they keep calling me like that or even my parents. They're aware that you're into Bitcoin investments and everyone is aware that you guys have money. We don't have to dive it that much on it but that's it, when someone talks about Bitcoin, then the matter is that it's all about money. No matter how optimistic we are, if it's your child that's involved. You better give a reminder to those people that they should call him by his name and not bitcoin.

Problem will only occur if you live in a country where bitcoin is banned, that means you might be questioned by the government why your son is named after bitcoin, and might be suspecting you and your family that you are actually into illegal transactions of bitcoin.

However, since you never mention about bitcoin being banned in your country, that means you have nothing to worry. But maybe try to call your son on his real name not on his nickname as early as now to avoid future problems.

Well that would harm your privacy.

If you're live in El Salvador, you don't have to really worry. But if you're live in other country, this will be a problem because you're using Bitcoin as legal tender when your country didn't accept Bitcoin as a currency.

Hopefully you didn't went viral, but you need to educate your relatives.

Hmm, that's not a big concern for the OP as far as I'm looking forward to the entire story, TBH except in El Salvador now the adoption and acceptability of Bitcoin on the legal scale is evolving and I'm sure within a few upcoming years we are gonna see a 180-degree stand of every nation which is anti-crypto, especially anti-Bitcoin.

Some of my seniors get offended when I use to compare Bitcoin & Crypto which I don't mostly, but still to create the scenario and for reference of the acceptance I would say not only BTC but also the other crypto space will evolve within a few years. If a country is not recognizing Bitcoin Legally at the same time they have a restriction policy as well we'll still consider the circumstance on neutral ground to be in favor of Bitcoin because no one can restrict you until there's a clear policy by the state in the act of freedom.

-snip- ... ...
Actually that's not the purpose of this thread, but more aimed at my son who most people call my son Bitcoin.
And at first I felt uncomfortable because my child had a beautiful name, but over time I got used to it and if my child was called Bitcoin he would definitely respond more because he was used to it. And I'm worried that my child will be called Bitcoin when he grows up, and I also feel uncomfortable if there are questions about Bitcoin because I'm afraid of answering it wrong.
Mentioning a name that is often called when they are small will stick with them until they grow up even if the name a child is called is not the real name that we gave them.
The name boy which is often called by people in our family will be called by other people outside the family circle. Growing up around his friends would also call him that name. Giving a name is synonymous with meaning. It could be because of a father's love for something.

If Bitcoin is his nickname since childhood with the explanation above, then until he grows up his nickname will be called that name.
You are starting to feel uncomfortable with your child's name being called, for me it is right to worry about this situation to prevent bad effects on the child's psychology.

Besides that, I'm sure your child when he grows up will be an intelligent child.
Take care and look after him well. Greetings from me to your child.

R

Personally I wouldn't like people around calling my son Bitcoin. It sounds like mockery. I believe when parents choose a name for their children, people have to respect it, and call them by the right name. However, I think the one who has to say if it's fine or not is your son. Does he feel uncomfortable being called Bitcoin, or does he like it and feel proud? If he enjoys his nickname, probably there won't be any issues at all, as he won't feel bad about it futurely. Maybe for you it has a special and positive meaning, since it was through BTC his childbirth was paid.
It might not be mockery but the circumstances behind the birth of the child. Sometimes you might not be able to control the nickname people call your children as much as it is not a bad name. I have heard several funny nicknames given to children and the parents will just laugh over it. The only problem the OP has is that people might see him as wealthy and this could lead to security concerns. In my area, people don't know that you can buy Bitcoin in bits so they will easily assume that you own one bitcoin which is a huge sum.

The mistake OP made was to expose how he paid the hospital bills for the child's delivery and they now had to spread the news. I wouldn't also blame him because he didn't know it would turn out this way. If I were OP and had the means,  I would relocate from the location because it might be risky.

Hey bro.. don't get yourself disturbed over nothing because I believe if your son grows up he has a surname and a name, I don't see any reason to get worried since that is his nickname and is good. It's only nickname so if he keeps answering it then at some point they won't care to call him that name anymore because he has grown up and can now handle issues on his own but still do not get worried, I know this name is only effective at your compound or living area where you don't have to get worried since people don't call him Bitcoin in school there is nothing to worry as well.

Op according to you
Everyone Calls My Child's Name Bitcoin.
and what is the name you gave your child as the father of the child? And you create the first thread which you have provided the link here on the June 02, 2022, 03:21:20 AM. And from the birth date to date the name ceremony has passed and it now you notice that neighborhood and extended family members are calling your child bitcoin and how did they know that you deal with bitcoin? Op I am suspecting that because you got merit for the birth thread and that is why this thread is also created to fetch more. Because you didn't tell us how the name bitcoin to your child came about. You just said your family members and others are calling your child Bitcoin, HOW?

Calling your child Bitcoin is just a name your desire to call your child because not your love of bitcoin and it great value in the cryptocurrency ecosystem. And I don't think government will do anything with you because that is a name you want to use to your child. And the government will not name your child for you and you will do it for yourself. And I have not seen government arrested someone because they call a name to a child. I have heard names of Bandit and Terrorist and we asked, they were name either by rape or in their dens. Therefore names come from different perspective and the parents must know the reasons behind the name.

Your child is in development process and whatever he's called now, he'll remember that and as you've said, he's used to it.

Do you think that it's fine for him to get used to it and be called like that? Have communication to everyone that calls the wrong name for your child.

You should practice to call him by his name because when the time that he's going to school, it's painful to hear some bullying words just because he's called that.

I'm curious about in what country you live, buddy.
It will be a very serious problem if Bitcoin is illegal in your country.
You said that Bitcoin is not really popular in your area, only few people know Bitcoin there. I guess, the status of Bitcoin in your country probably not clear or illegal. In this matter, you need to be careful to keep your privacy. Don't attract people's attention to your job/activities! It is not impossible if you may get a serious problem in the future. So, I suggest you to remind other people about the real nick name of your child. He is Muhammad Alvan ......, right? Alvan should be better as his nick name than Bitcoin.

Even if Bitcoin is legal in your country, it also attracts bad people to steal your money or investment. They may assume that having Bitcoin means a rich person. I'm sure it may be dangerous if the thieves are watching you. They can take what you have when you are careless at any time.

Another problem, you will be too busy to answer people's question if they are getting curious in the future. Moreover, your son will grow up and he will have many friends. How he handle the question from their friends if many of them often ask the question about Bitcoin to him. I don't think you will learn your son about Bitcoin in a very early age.

And I'm worried that my child will be called Bitcoin when he grows up, and I also feel uncomfortable if there are questions about Bitcoin because I'm afraid of answering it wrong.
If I could understand, do you mean your child got the nick name Bitcoin simply because his/her hospital birth bills was fully paid with Bitcoin through direct transfer of BTC? Or do you mean it was paid with fiat after BTC/Fiat conversion? Which do you mean? Because normally from the part of Africa where children are always giving birth names due to certain occurrence which have happened during the child's birth, which I'm sure maybe people around your locality must have noticed your recent engagement in Bitcoin related discussion and zeal for Bitcoin advocation and adoption and had no other means but name your child "Bitcoin" since that's what you are known to represent in the community.

Hence, it's something to be proud about to be known for something good, most especially Bitcoin to be precise.

Everything had happened for some reason, but the same could be threatening in the future. Now we find this to be interesting and something unique, but the reality of carrying the name bitcoin used to be hard. There will be criticism as well as people keeping an eye on him, thinking he has good wealth in the form of bitcoin. Mohammad Alven is a good name, and it is good to teach the kid not to respond when called by the name Bitcoin.

I read the story that you posted last year, the one you mentioned in the link, where you paid the total childbirth fees to the doctor in exchange for 0.007 BTC. Now, this amount is equivalent to $300 at the current price of BTC. This doctor, who was involved in crypto, agreed to accept Bitcoin as a payment method. He is really a smart person.

I ended up paying in bitcoin about 0.007 or about $210.
--------
Regarding this topic, based on what you said, it is better for you to advise these people not to give your son the name “Bitcoin” because, in reality, this matter may cause a potential legal threat to you or your child if he exceeds the legal age. The matter varies from one country to another. Many people were called Satoshi, but nothing happened to them. Naming your child Bitcoin might also cause embarrassment if he cannot answer questions and may inconvenience you if you repeatedly tell the full story because of his name. I advise you not to repeat the same story with other doctors or people you do not know when they accept Bitcoin; make it your private investment, and when you earn returns from Bitcoin, you can use P2P and pay them using fiat money.

And I think that bitcoin as a name of identity to someone can be dangerous because people hearing the story of how the name was generated can make them think a lot about you. When people know you invest bitcoin or buy things with bitcoin they always have this feeling that you are full of money, and just have imagine someone who always have bad intentions towards people whi have money, he may try is luck to see if their is a way he can get money from you.

I so much believe in the awareness of bitcoin but I don't think it is safe and proper to let people know you have bitcoin be it family and friends. It is safe when bitcoin is spent or invested anonymously because people see people who have bitcoin as supper rich people,  I'm saying this based from my location where I am. Discussion about bitcoin can take place without people even suspecting if you have some amount of Bitcoin with you. It is believed that bitcoin is one of the investment now and when people gets to know you deal with bitcoin they see you as a top investor.

Because of the story https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5401052.0#msg60271061, until now most people, especially my entire extended family and also people around me, call my child Bitcoin.
Actually, most of them don't really know what Bitcoin really is, especially old people and small children because in my area Bitcoin is not very popular and only certain people know about it. And with this story happening, those who know that my child's birth expenses were paid using Bitcoin, want to know more clearly and also want to know what Bitcoin actually is.
And after I told them the basics of what Bitcoin is and its benefits, they finally understood and in my conversation with them I did not suggest investing, only that Bitcoin can be used for long-term investments that are profitable from other investments. And it can be used for trading, and can also be used as a transaction tool like money. And both must have a Bitcoin address or wallet that can be done privately, because in the country where I live, Bitcoin or other crypto cannot be used as a means of transaction.
And until now when explaining Bitcoin I don't know the developments whether they are involved or not.

That is brand ambassador for advertisement on itself for the BTC and cryptocurrency generally. It's no longer news that any thing  one does and people know them on  usually turn a name, be it skill or talent people use it as nickname or name them. As for me is a plus since is not a negative one, because Bitcoin is still a coin which every one still searching to have or invest on. I am even look for such nickname.

Do not feel uncomfortable. You should be more proud and open to the idea of other people calling your son "Bitcoin". The story behind your son's name is something that you should be proud of as a parent. Your son carries the name "Bitcoin" because you were able to provide for him during the time of your wife's delivery. Do not be afraid to answer any questions from other people. Answer them based on your experience that you can be proud of.

OP, your son has gone viral among everyone in your area  Cheesy

Since you paid the birth fee in bitcoins when you gave birth to your child, everyone in your area knows that you use bitcoins, so they call your son Bitcoin. If Bitcoin is accepted as legal tender in your country then I think you can be proud that your son is called Bitcoin. However, if Bitcoin is not accepted as legal tender in your country, you may also run into administrative harassment.

and because of that, his son could be harmed because when he was given the nickname bitcoin, the privacy of his child and the whole family was exposed. OP said that bitcoin is not well known in their country so many people ask questions and ask for an explanation about bitcoin, maybe OP should not have said that he used bitcoin payment for the cost of childbirth, for the sake of their privacy when it comes to financial matters, and to avoid asking questions from other people. Today, it's better to be low key in life, let's take care of our privacy especially when it comes to our self, family, financial aspects and personal matters

Now that everyone in that area already know OP is a Bitcoin enthusiast, I fear there isn't much he can do... He could say it was an isolated event, where he used all the BTCs he had to pay for the childbirth, discontinuing further purchases of Bitcoin later on, but since he is constantly proudly speaking of Bitcoin to his community, and teaching them the basics, how to invest for the long term and so on, it would be hard to make them believe he gave up on BTC investment...

If he has enough money to move to another area, it would be a good idea, like you suggested. Preferentially to a place where being a BTC enthusiast doesn't put a target on his head immediately, although it's easier said than done, because people have deep roots on the areas where they live and have grown side by side with their families for different generations. To leave everything behind is a hard decision only very detached individuals are able to do. Now he has to measure how risk it's for Bitcoin Junior to live and grow up in this place, having everyone around knowing they deal with BTC, especially after next bull run, which is going to boost BTC's price to even higher price ranges.
