 I feel pity for the innocent guy that might still be in police custody due to his mistake and ignorance, such situation have put a lot of innocent people out there in a big mess. That's why I'm the last person that would patronise fairly used gadgets, I love to buy my gadgets from  the slot or a recognised gadget store where I'll be sold brand new devices and issued the appropriate receipt for the items. And that's cause I've heard awful stories of people that's been victims of the same circumstances therefore I've learnt from their experience.
 The recent one of them all was when a guy shared some experience of how he almost got into police custody cause of a stolen item. In his own case he was neither the buyer nor the seller, but was an apprentice for a  phone repairer who happens to be the third buyer of the stolen item. The actual item was stolen from a rich fulani merchant whose brother was in the Nigerian army and sold to two other people before it finally got to the phone repairer.
 Luckily for the guy narrating the story he was able to escape when noticed some military men grab his boss, they intended taking everyone in the shop with them to the guard room but luck was on his side that day. However buying a fairly used property can be very risky due to such situations and people that indulge in such act needs to be very careful not to buy the wrong item.

A friend of mine saw a phone and on Facebook, it was an infinity phone, worth over 200k market price and he saw the phone on Facebook and the poster was selling it for just 150k, and the phone was just 2 months old with complete accessories, according to the seller. I tried talking him out of it but he ignored my advice and went ahead to buy the phone.  Indeed the phone was very new and had rlthe receipt just as the seller posted which made the whole thing even more suspicious.

Totally not advisable my brother o,you no no how many people hands the phone don enter bfr it get to you to buy ,u Neva can tell self if na tracking phone I swear,I witness one incident abt second hand phone,the phone was stolen from anoda state tho the phn was very expensive so I guess the owner was tracking it ,the person wey con buy d stolen with pure mind ,was arrested together with his two friends he was sitting with at a particular moments o tracking carry the guy o wetin d guy go go talk self fr station self .

 One of the major reason wey dey make people prefer to buy this second hand product na because say e dey always dey cheap for them to buy, and some people no know say e dey good to buy something expensive and enjoy it than to buy something cheap and e no go last long or e go come dey put you for problem.

The reason some people buy second hand phone is because they do not have the money to buy a new phone. Second hand phones are cheap. But it would be better to buy a used phone from a phone seller instead. OP is right because he said buying it from an unknown person. If I know a person very well and I do not have enough money to buy a new phone, I can buy phone from the person especially if he wants to get a new one and want to sell his phone. But if the person that want to sell phone is not known, that is not a good idea. But you are also right that second hand phone can not be good as new but not everyone can afford new phone of certain specifications that they want.

Yes all you have said has nothing to argue about it for that speaks volumes in my heart, there no body that is given a brand new phone or have all it takes to afford new phone that will prefer second hand considering all manner of risk involved in anything second hand weather from known source or not including durability issue, everything is just matter if financial incompetent of the the buyer, but in my opinion who ever that have the plan of buying a phone show plan ahead before time and save gradually as that will usher the buy good phone and save him some risk of falling onto wrong hand of stolen phone or even buy phone that is not durable.

Buying a phone or other gadgets without receipt dey very very risky, because people dey steal phones and other kinds of gadgets well well. So dey carefully,  so many individuals don fall victim for security hands for this kind of scenario. All these phone now dem dey fit track am because ee dey cary International mobile equipment identity (IMEI). So who ever dem find with de phone go definitely be regarded as de person wey steal de phone. We all know say price of brand new  phones don dey very cost well well and second hand  phones dey very cheap but no go fall victim because of cheap price wey go make u go prison/cell and still pay ×4  in the hands police authority.

No be say we no fit buy second phones or gadgets but my advice is that make the product get receipt and if possible, make una go police station to bear una witness of de kind transaction una dey make for safety purpose  and to be on a safer side. many people for dis life dey suffer for crimes wey no be dem commit, make we use our head to avoid becoming victims.
