There are a lot of chances that could make a thing go into extinction and to some extent Bitcoin also can take place and at some point also we have to make such understandable and settled statements because, to a great extent, bitcoin is a much more stable asset and haven't existed for over a decade, it becomes obviously clear that Bitcoin any likely never reach that level of down level to the point of becoming extinct.

Bitcoin is here to stay and at that, we should get used to it and stop discussing its possible outcome at any point in time.

The longer it stays relevant the less chance it has of going extinct. Especially since we got etfs now and people are putting BTC into their long term retirement portfolio.

What will go extinct are many altcoins however. Many altcoins typically go -90% and then lose another -90% and become irrelevant and extinct. Then usually the exchange delists then coin and eventually all nodes stop and the alt coin is gone completely. Won’t happen to Bitcoin.

At least you should provide more statements on your topic. I understand your account seems to be new, but you never go anywhere if you don't put effort into your topics. Anyway, what are the chances of bitcoin going extinct? We never know until all the bitcoin is available to be mined; we will never know what will happen next in bitcoin, but as long as the maximum bitcoin to be mined is still not reached, then bitcoin will keep its place and its price, as many more investors are coming and investing in bitcoin, if that's what you mean about bitcoin being instinctive. Many people have wondered how long bitcoin will last, but in reality, we don't have a concrete answer to that; only time can tell what will happen. But as long as bitcoin is there, the important thing is that you maximise its potential for your own benefit. Instead of worrying about bitcoins dimming, why not invest in it?

Bitcoin going into extinction is just same case as the world coming to an end that means everything has its times and will last as man lasts. But if you’re looking at it at the perspective of maybe people dumping it and other cryptocurrency can emerge thereby sending into extinction I will say know. Currently it doesn’t look like that it will go into extinction just yet because even you look at the time remaining to mine the rest bitcoin that date is way too far and we all know after then many people will still hold on to it bitcoin because it will grow in value.

The ruling class would need to shut down the internet, otherwise Bitcoin will be around for a very long time. Oh wait, there is at least one old thread where early members discuss "bouncing signals off of satellites" to keep the BTC network alive, even if the internet is destroyed, so we still have hope even then.

What are the chances of bitcoin going extinct?
For the time being, I believe there is less chance that bitcoin will go extinct because it is already widely known and has a strong, globally distributed network of nodes, as well as miners and users. I think this strengthens its position and makes it difficult for any new cryptocurrency to surpass its level of adoption. As a long-term asset, bitcoin is less likely to become extinct since, in my opinion, it has developed into a widely accepted store of value and the perception of scarcity.
Although it may not completely disappear in our lifetime, we will never be able to predict how bitcoin will fare in the future because people grow tired easily. Therefore, I suppose it really depends on the circumstances facing our future generation.

What are the chances of bitcoin going extinct?

Satoshi was not human, many of us know he was actually here from a distant world. If his people return, what are the chances they will be able to shut down Bitcoin?   Cheesy
Serously, no chance Bitcoin is built to last and will not be going away, thank you.

This question gets asked quite often, so maybe use the search function to read the past discussions.

Satoshi himself said that in 20 years either there will be a lot of transactions or very few, so he considered the possibility of Bitcoin failing.

I think it's not likely that Bitcoin can completely die, because all it takes for Bitcoin to exist is just a few or even one computer running the software like it was in early day. But I would say losing 99.999% users is the same as being dead, and we can't exclude that possibility. Right now Bitcoin is relatively popular because the price goes up all the time - what would happen if it was going down instead?

What are the chances of bitcoin going extinct?
As long as there are altcoins that trying to compete with Bitcoin, people will not leave the crypto and Bitcoin extinction will remain in the future.
The decentralized nature of blockchain technology of this Bitcoin was designed to enhance security which is a good asset of Bitcoin that people will not leave and the plus factor is the valuable asset that you can store value of it.

I don't even think this nonsense.
You're not truly a crypto enthusiast if you have this in your mind.

We see many altcoins come and go, this has been happening for a very long time and it will continue to happen, the difference between BTC and these altcoins that go extinct is that BTC is useful, it has a utility; a reason why people use it and want to buy it. BTC would only go extinct if people no longer need it, that is if it becomes useless, and the chances of that happening is very slim.

I don't think people would ever stop needing a censorship resistant and decentralized currency, a hedge against inflation in fiat and other currencies, an investment option, p2p electronic cash, store of value, etc.

I will not agree with this because life itself can extinct.

Maybe only if a meteor falls and all human life ends, but other than that I don't see any possibility of bitcoin becoming extinct, as long as there is a single person running the software, bitcoin will be alive.

Definitely not zero. As the user above me mentioned, Bitcoin could go extinct if we don't have electricity. It could also go extinct if the internet dies. All these are hard to happen though.

What's more probable is that Bitcoin might lose relevance in the far future. Times are always changing. Things are always improving. And it is quite impossible to imagine that Bitcoin will remain relevant for as long as humanity exists. Bitcoin is not perfect to begin with. Something better might come out in the next centuries.

There was this word from satoshi that we used to see on the banners that after 20-30 years, there could be huge transactions or none. While as of now, it's totally zero chance that Bitcoin is going to become extinct and it's here to stay.

With that statement from the creator himself just assures that anything can possibly happen. But looking on the situation, we'd definitely not going to see it any time soon that it will be gone.

Maybe in the nearest future, the interest might just be stable and not that be much anymore because of how things could change like having not that much fluctuation anymore.

What are the chances of bitcoin going extinct?
The possibility of bitcoin becoming extinct is very small, but this does not rule out the possibility that its price will not be as expensive as it is now in the future. What is behind bitcoin is not extinct and in my small analysis because the supply is limited and the value to maintain itself in the market is much more likely to happen compared to other coins. No one can generalize the process of Bitcoin's future journey, but people can make predictions for at least the next few years with the assumptions and realities that are happening in Bitcoin today.

I'm not thinking about Bitcoin going back to zero, but what I want to do is how I can exploit Bitcoin's potential as long as it can generate profits. Now and in the next few years I am still quite optimistic that bitcoin will be the only best coin in crypto and bitcoin will also be one of the most recommended investments by many people in the future.

There's always a chance, even the creator awares about that, so we will see the answer in the next 6 years. Wink

Right.  Otherwise we couldn't have a finite limit of 21 million coins, because there would always need to be some minimum reward for generating.  In a few decades when the reward gets too small, the transaction fee will become the main compensation for nodes.  I'm sure that in 20 years there will either be very large transaction volume or no volume.

Remember we're currently on he situation where the governments are trying to adopt Bitcoin, moreover most people don't aware with decentralization, this will make centralized exchanges, institutions and governments hold almost Bitcoins that already circulated.

It has been 15 years that Bitcoin has survived all competition and all negativity, but that does not mean that it won't become extinct in the future. Bitcoin can become extinct as nothing in the world is certain. As long as it stays relevant to the people it will not extinct and I do not think there isn't anything that can stop it from being relevant to the world. With more and more altcoins being launched which are nothing but an improved version of it, Bitcoin will face fierce competition. Till now it has squashed all its competition and survived. But the future is unpredictable and so anything can happen.
