Just an aditional note OP : If, by any chance, you are using Electrum behind a VPN/TOR you must know that there are some open issues[1] in Electrum regarding having the value not being displayed while using any of mentioned options. The solution so far for this blockage is by using the client over clearnet so that it is able to connect to the services.

Will the change in the Fiat currency not void that goal? (Your local currency can reveal your country of origin or is that info not transmitted to the Electrum server?)
I know at one stage Electrum fetched the fiat currency data from the BitcoinAverage website, but that stopped working, so you had to set it to another exchange source.
