By the time of writing this, there are about 9 topics created by brand new or newbie accounts in Altcoin Discussion promoting a project called "Magic Square".
I'm pretty sure there will be more coming in shortly because they are on a mission to promote this project at any cost, it's serial shilling as we all know it.

The point is, how many topics/threads is one going to report by opening them one by one? Can't there be a way to report keywords to mods or admins that would serve as a suggestion for them to ban a certain keyword to avoid temporary spam such as the one I have mentioned above?

Update: Most of the topics and posts are deleted and users are banned thanks to users who have reported them, especially LoyceV for adding the keyword under the spam category in his website that had helped me find and report a bunch of them.
However, it could still be easier to do this if mods could implement a keyword ban on titles or something similar that could reduce the spam and the need for manually reporting every single thread/topic.

I have noticed that topic creation has been going on since yesterday, if I'm not mistaken, and they have been randomly creating these same topics with multiple accounts, which are just some random shillers who were sent to come and advertise a project that is likely to be a scam, because only scam projects can be promoted in such a manner.

I report a few of them; that's for the ones I came across, but some before I could click on the link from the Telegram bot, the moderator had already filtered them out and got them deleted.

The keyword report will be a good one to make, but it might also be misused since there are some commonly used words and phrases here on the forum. If such a word happens to be the keyword for the report, you might also end up reporting a thread that has good value to share with the community.

I don’t understand what you mean by a keyword ban like a ban placed on a particular word for some minutes before they are released? I don’t think that’s right, what if other members wants to use that same word in another discussion? Wouldn’t that hindered the decentralization of this forum?

It might be frustrating seeing those repeated threads but you can’t help because a ban or decision placed on Things like this will just lead to more censorship which I feel isn’t good. The solution is as a good forum user do not get tired of reporting this threads and admins or mods will get it deleted. Which is a fair option to me

You can report one of the thread and mention the right description will get the account to be nuked which will delete all the posts the user made including topics, so instead of reporting every thread, you can just report one that can be effective.

The feature like you mentioned is not possible to implement at all because it can end up someone who wants to address the issue has to mention the name may get ban and then the Meta board will be flooded with such topics and mods has to work their ass to go through everything and has to revoke who actually violated and who reported.

I think it's too much to have block keywords because spam doesn't happen hundreds of times, reporting to mods is the best way and I think many members are actively reporting spam posts so far it is still well controlled.

If they continue to spam, it will actually reduce the credibility of their platform because of bad marketing patterns, no one likes spam and no one likes platforms that are promoted using spam methods.

A keyword ban can be placed only for keywords that are being used in that specific section for spamming projects such as the instance we are seeing here, it shouldn't be a common keyword that any user might use and mods can evaluate the spamming before they place the ban in place, and the reports should provide a suggestion to mods that they can use for their evaluation process.

You can report one of the thread and mention the right description will get the account to be nuked which will delete all the posts the user made including topics, so instead of reporting every thread, you can just report one that can be effective.

They create every other topic with a different user account, so this isn't effective in this case.

If they continue to spam, it will actually reduce the credibility of their platform because of bad marketing patterns, no one likes spam and no one likes platforms that are promoted using spam methods.

It's not about their project getting attention, it's about not allowing them to misuse the ability to create new topics without restriction.

You can ask LoyceV for maybe add you to the whitelist here : [Active] Finding spam and scams by keyword
With that you can find them easy and just hit the "  Report to Moderator  " button.

Also you can use the service from TryNinja https://ninjastic.space/search for find them.

There is another option but i dont know if Mitchell will be adding it to his Bot MindlessElectron that has the rights for what you looking for.

I receive many notifications on Telegram almost all notifications are magic square and they keep promoting their project with newly created accounts.
I think if you can see this thread for now what you can only do is report it.
However, I hope that mods will make some solution to this because almost all notifications that I received are related to this project. Banning magic or SQR is a smart idea but I do not know if mods have tools to ban these keywords maybe the admin can do that.

OP can post his list of spam-keywords there (in the correct format). I'll see if it's worth whitelisting. For now, I've added "Magic Square". So far there are 82 keyword matches (use CTRL-F on that page). Some of them are banned already. OP, can I leave it to you to report the other spammers?

Usually, mentioning @Mitchell is enough. But "Magic Square" is quite short and might lead to innocent users getting banned.

I have also noticed a whole bunch more spam posts with those keywords popping up lately, over the past few days.  And, I have reported some of them to moderators myself.  But, I couldnt help but see that some of those topics got deleted super quick, like within minutes even.  So I am thinking at least one of the mods is keeping real close tabs on new posts as they go up and taking out the trash before anybody even reports anything.

I think that creating a keyword reporting option would introduce new problems for moderators and probably cause false positive reports. For example, what if someone creates a scam accusation against that project?

LOL, welcome to the altcoin section of our fine forum!  Usually this crap happens in the ANN section (and it's probably still happening for all I know).  In any case, I'm glad you brought this to the community's attention--and mine--because it's been a while since I've visited Altcoin Discussion and browsed around, and this thread prompted me to do that.  Just looking at the first page I can see there's some interesting discussions going on, so I guess it hasn't gone downhill in a straight line like I thought it would.

Granted, I've not yet looked at what's being posted and I'm prepared to see a bunch of one-line crapola replies, but the threads themselves look kinda-sorta promising.

Keyword bans can be implemented by the admin AFAIK, and they are only done in really necessary situations and not just used when a new spam pops up from a couple of newbies. They also have to be done very specifically so other unsuspecting users are not affected.

it's definitely very different and I understand your plea but enhhh-  is it enough to convince Theymos on creating something like this? He's got so many pending requests and my deep fear isn't even about him responding on time to insurgencies like this; now my big fear is about how he'll handle this minute issue should it begin to strike even bigger...

That's exactly what it is... It could be initialized - in that should any of those spammy/ abusive words be mentioned - it won't even be posted... It'll reject automatically.. what happens when you try to post nudes on Facebook?

I think that creating a keyword reporting option would introduce new problems for moderators and probably cause false positive reports. For example, what if someone creates a scam accusation against that project?

I was thinking about a section-specific thing like a ban or a restriction that could be implemented in certain sections to restrict users or maybe new users from creating new topics with the keyword that is banned or blacklisted.

Usually this crap happens in the ANN section (and it's probably still happening for all I know).

Spam events like this one are often carried out in the discussion sections. This is not the first time I've seen serial spamming like this where a bunch of new accounts keep creating new threads with different titles having the same keyword and slightly different content in the OP shilling for their shit projects. These are either paid activities or are carried out by the project members themselves, however, it's pretty frustrating to see.

You can always count on LoyceV to knock those bitches out of the park.  He is truly a Merit Cycling Club member worth his weight in gold.

Thanks to him, most of the topics were reported and deleted and their creators were banned very quickly. I reported a bunch myself from LoyceV's spam filter from his website that he mentioned above, most of them were already reported when I started checking.

Keyword bans can be implemented by the admin AFAIK, and they are only done in really necessary situations and not just used when a new spam pops up from a couple of newbies. They also have to be done very specifically so other unsuspecting users are not affected.

I know, I didn't mean a keyword ban to be implemented throughout the forum, but only in the section where the spam is currently going on, maybe make it a restriction type of a thing where accounts below Member cannot create a new thread/topic with that specific keyword.

it's definitely very different and I understand your plea but enhhh-  is it enough to convince Theymos on creating something like this? He's got so many pending requests and my deep fear isn't even about him responding on time to insurgencies like this; now my big fear is about how he'll handle this minute issue should it begin to strike even bigger...

I don't know, but all I know is that a filter sort of thing could be helpful for mods if he implements it. He should add a feature for mods to be able to add keywords in a filter that wouldn't allow accounts below a certain rank to do specific things like creating new topics, etc.
If mods could add such a filter in Altcoin Discussion where they would add "Magic Square" in the list of keywords after which accounts below Member rank couldn't create new topics with this keyword either in the title or body of the topic, the spam could have stopped without any problem. And of course, the filters could be reset anytime by the mods.

Admins can do this because theymos did it with Yobit years ago like in 2019 and Mixers recent months.

About reports, you can do it manually with forum report button or you can use
[HACK] One-click mod report, not for the faint of heart to save your time.

If cases with a keyword are not too much, you can report them manually. If they are overwhelming, you can create a topic in Meta and request admins, moderators to have more serious batch solution.

Maybe its time for the bounty managers to level up their rules on participants, because you cant expect something much from a user who has been always running after bounties and shillings without having any merit in the last 150 days, or maybe some of these their campaigns should start accepting only members from full member upwards, most of these newbies accounts were just only created for these purpose.

The point is, how many topics/threads is one going to report by opening them one by one? Can't there be a way to report keywords to mods or admins that would serve as a suggestion for them to ban a certain keyword to avoid temporary spam such as the one I have mentioned above?

using a particular keyword may not be effective in dealing with these kind of problem, someone like me or you can made mention of same keyword while discussing about the same issue and our post got deleted, its better the bounty managers raise their standards on requirements, then if we see such post, report.

I don't see a link between these shilling accounts and posts with bounty or signature campaigns, you probably didn't understand the context of all this because it's not about users spamming for post counts and signature earnings but it's about new accounts being created and topics started in large quantities to promote a certain project filling a specific board or section, in this case, Altcoin Discussion, with spam.

This is a good observation and I believe that another sheriff could have been in town...lol.

Well, I do my bit silently when I see a thing like this and I know that the forum's management, moderators and others are trying their best as well. For assistance, we should help them in the little ways possible like this to detect some issues. Reporting this often could mean prompt action upon investigations.

Many are so creative these days in trying to bypass the rules of the forum unnoticed. You now see them so clever in placing some adverts for promotion. But at times too, it could merely be a coincidence with no harm meant. That is why investigation is important after which the ended sanction or warning can be issued as the case may be. Still, if there is an automated function that could warn of such multiple spamming words, especially when people are not familiar with them, it would be better. Except for the complexity of this in detecting falsehood too.
