Over the year, Events has  been taking place  on the forum and users has been participating in such events but maybe not everyone.
Although,  users get to know about such events by following such boards and staying active on such boards but  not everyone  gets to know about these  events  as early as possible even with the awareness, which lead me to making this topic.
For example,
Last year I didn't  know there was a vote for awards which was given until i saw the thread this  year, maybe because I was new to the forum then
I didn't know  o_e_l_e_o dropped a thread for his absence (although it's  a touching one) until I was going through his thread

In my view, can we have  happening event  threads maybe at the right side of the the second  header section, It's kind of similar  to Altcointalks but we can make ours just for happening  events threads and new announcements threads or maybe anything we with to add

With this users  can easily spot what is currently happening either event or announcements.

This made me think... what if I manually send notifications about big yearly events to the users using my telegram notification bot (~1000 users)?

For exemple, icopress' yearly Bitcointalk Community Awards, the Bitcoin Pizza competition etc...

I could send a one time survey asking if they want to know about these big events (which happens like 3-4 times per year, nothing too spammy).

But then, which ones are "worthy" a notification? Maybe you want to know about the yearly community awards but not about a prominient member leaving the forum (because you might not care, etc...).

It's a nice idea though, but if I recall correctly, there is a news column top left side of the forum.

As you can see it In this image. Most times. The admins post important information and events there for everyone to see and if you are observant, you will notice them.
Also, for this events update that aren't found up there. You can also check or track the service board for new events. I do track the board and I'm always updated of new events on the forum

But then, which ones are "worthy" a notification? Maybe you want to know about the yearly community awards but not about a prominient member leaving the forum (because you might not care, etc...).
That the same taught I had. If you are to add such features to the telegram bot, then how do you know which ones will be of interest to everyone. For my suggestions, if you are to do it, then if should be those post that solely concern the forum it self. Like the pie contest, Bitcoin pizza contest or the BitcoinTalk community awards.

I guess this should be the purpose of the survey
Just went through your thread, if you are willing to carry it out maybe you could organise a general poll inform of the survey.

It's a nice idea though, but if I recall correctly, there is a news column top left side of the forum.

As you can see it In this image. Most times. The admins post important information and events there for everyone to see and if you are observant, you will notice them.

I've never seen anything more than the latest bitcoin core torrent download  maybe it's just dedicated  for bitcoin news (not the in-forum news)

You are not very observant about that. Theymos occasionally changes the information displayed there. I think I have once seen the Baking contest there, not sure if I have seen the community award there. Also, it was used to announce the mixer ban recently.

But then, theymos doesn't change the news there easily. And it is not all news that need to be displayed there. As tryninja had said, it is not everyone that knows Leo or care about him and other forum users. The best way to know about happenings in the forum is by checking meta and reputation boards.

This makes some sense, but instead of an event notifier, I believe that it may be easier for the administrator to cave out a new subboard on the Mata board. The sub-meta board could just be specifically for every forum-related event or incident that concerns a committed and reputable forum member like of @o_e_l_e_o's.

what if I manually send notifications about big yearly events to the users using my telegram notification bot (~1000 users)?

I can't imagine how well this is going to be because I believe that some people may still miss out on such notifications even if you decide to send them manually through your super notifier. Sometimes before I visit the notifier on Telegram, I have already had more than 50 to100+ notifications, and I am not usually patient enough to go through all of them one after another.

In my opinion, what I can suggest is for a new sub-board to be caved out for every yearly forum event to be announced there.

Hey my Chief this is a pretty cool suggestion to add up but, however not everyone still aware of the telegram notification bot. I came to know about this after I started joining sig. Meaning if not that I was expanding my post to some of the board I couldn't have noticed there is a telegram notification bot here, So with this only those that are active using the bots could only be aware of any events happening here. To support with what you said, to me I will also want Theymos to make it as a message(pm) or mailing to every user both active and inactive (except ban account) with this no one will be left behind the updates, I know it's very annoying receiving pm or mail but we needs it. I don't know if someone already said this..

Your words are so true that I have only now heard about the topic of the absence of o_e_l_e_o. I searched the forum and read the topic, and it was very informative and influential, but I did not know about it until now.

This confirms your point about having a corner for notifications or announcements of important forum events. This is present in most forums.

TryNinja's suggestion about sending these notifications via a notification bot is also very good and interesting and I expect it will be welcomed by everyone.

But then, which ones are "worthy" a notification? Maybe you want to know about the yearly community awards but not about a prominient member leaving the forum (because you might not care, etc...).
I expect that this will not be a big problem. Notifications can be sent with the most important news in the forum and then members click on only the notifications that interest them and ignore the rest. I do not expect the number of notifications to be large anyway, perhaps a few notifications per day.

In my opinion, what I can suggest is for a new sub-board to be caved out for every yearly forum event to be announced there.

We don't need a new sub-board for that, one thread will be enough. Like this one for example: Overview of Bitcointalk Signature-Ad Campaigns

Anyone can make a thread like that if they want to. It might be useful for the community, but it will need to be updated regularly to remain relevant.

I don't think this will be approved. as far as I know, the admin only creates a sub-board if there will be enough interest/traffic for that sub-board but seeing that there are only a number of community events happening in the forum every year and some incident where a forum members leave or passed away, I don't think there is a chance that the wub-board dedicated for it will be created.

Correct me if i am wrong, there is alway a pin message on everyone below the members bar with this you can see every happening event that are important, most times not everything theymos pin like a reputable member leaving the forum he won't pin that. But the case of mixer ban and community award and other implementation theymos do pin it for everyone to see and catch up changes quickly.
In my opinion it could be very hard for any additional feature to be implement provided that whenever there is important update he would pin it there additional thing could be hard.

Check the latest posted event there its the pie baking contest including the torrent download file of core, last time i see there was the banning of mixers announcements. If that's what you want to portrait, then i guess it's already answered what it need/wants.

Personally I sometimes miss important forum events when I have bussy time and don't visit specific boards like Meta or Reputation for few days. So, something what you offered would be nice.
Yeah, I know that we have News on the top, but it get updated only for key things few times a year, most of time we see recent version of Bitcoin core.
But question who would update such news frequently. I think only theymos and Cyrus have access to upload something there and I doubt that they have enough time to post important news frequently.

It can be even 1 notification per month. And people can subscribe to that separately.
Or even easier: somebody could maintain a thread (write and lock) with not more than one post/month, with worthy events and links to them. And people can just add that to tracked topics - with or without the bot. And a post can house much more info in case there is that much worthy info.

I would be interested in getting such notifications.

Not all ppl use telegram or want to give their email to users. The forum notifier's rotating with News: Latest Bitcoin Core release: 26.0 [Torrent] & News: Pie Baking Contest isn't it enough for notifications because we don't have many events.

I'm really happy about this. Given my limited activity on the forum due to being engaged in other tasks, having notifications from the forum delivered through your Telegram notification bot would be incredibly helpful in keeping me active and up-to-date. These survey questions could also be sent via private message.

Here are some sample survey questions:

- Do you currently use the Bitcointalk Telegram notification bot?
  • Yes
  • No
  • I don't care

- If you answered "No," would you be interested in activating it? If yes, please click the link below to activate it.
  • Yes
  • No

- For those who already use the Bitcointalk Telegram notification bot, would you like to receive notifications about significant events happening on the forum?
  • Yes
  • No
  • I don't care

- If yes, which significant events would you like to be notified about? Please select from the following options:
  • icopress' yearly Bitcointalk Community Awards
  • Bitcoin Pizza competition
  • Departure of a prominent member
  • Other (please specify)

We don't need a new sub-board for that, one thread will be enough. Like this one for example: Overview of Bitcointalk Signature-Ad Campaigns

Anyone can make a thread like that if they want to. It might be useful for the community, but it will need to be updated regularly to remain relevant.
It can be added to a thread of cafter.

[Overview] Bitcointalk Contests And Giveaways and I support to add it in that thread than creating a new thread.

Events hosted by the forum are not too much and it's unnecessary to create a new thread.

It can be announced in Discord

That’s one thing to look at, which event is worthy of a notifier and which isn’t…!

The forum have got specific events that are posted on the update field like we have now with the baking contest, before hand we had a publication on the situation with mixers and so forth with events that seeks public knowledge. I think when an event is of such magnitude, it finds its way to getting adequate publicity.

The issue here for most is that, we are often carved or concerns ourself with a niche. When that be the case, you’re sure to miss out on some eventuality.
We don’t need way too much notifier on the forum, I consider it to be unnecessary and it would someone create in users a lazy approach towards navigating the forum for eventualities. When you miss out, you’ve missed out. What’s expected, expansion of niche.

If there's too much notifier on the forum it's going to take eyes away from the headlines. If it's a limited notifier users will take notice when it's updated. There aren't strong reasons to change it if it's already managing.
