If you are using the original wallet and there is an information to update the app from another source, I will not advise anyone to do that because if the wallet software or the app needs update the app or the software itself will give you prompts message to do that just like what they did with Electrum. When Electrum wanted to update their wallet, they gave an update message thorough the app and I did the up so everything just run smoothly. And you should import your private keys to a well known wallet so that you coins will not lost.
Yeah, electrum is a very reliable wallet though not 100% but however, it is very important to take note of all these information because initially a lot of people were storing their coins on exchanges but due to the current clampdown on Binance have now opened our eyes not to store coins in exchanges thereby people are looking for possible wallets to store their coins of which if they ain't guided properly, it would even lead to more complicated issues so it is important to sort opinion and information from experienced users here like @ legendary
