Is it really a big mistake to sell portion of your bitcoin and then rebuy back when the price has dip?

The reason why am asking this question is because with the right approach I think this can also be done and even help you get good value of bitcoin when the price dip but there are conditions that would prompt you to actually sell some fraction of your investment. 

Let's say your investment has reached the amount of years (5+) you set for it and it's now time to sell with the motion of selling being tied to the fact that the upcoming season is probably going to be the bear market, isn't it going to be a good move to actually sell portion of your portfolio (not all) and then still continue with your steady buying and as you are running your normal DCA you are still active on the bear so that when the dip comes you can buy back with that sold amount from bitcoin portfolio so that your value of bitcoin is bigger and still go on and continue with your investment plans.

I still don't think it's a good idea to sell your Bitcoin with intention of buying them back later. Those who follow this strategy will only get few bucks of profit and they deny themselves from the real profit which Bitcoin gives in the long run.

We are not sure when bull and bear season will start and end. Even if you are accumulating Bitcoins for last 5 years there is no way you can ascertain that when bear season will be starting. Our first target must be to be gather enough Bitcoins and that requires considerable time. Once you have enough Bitcoins and you think you are getting enough profit then you might think of shorting some. But that will require at least 10 years.   

I want to say that those who are using Bitcoin. Their first goal should be to plan for long-term Bitcoin. As the days go by, Bitcoin is increasing in popularity. Different countries are showing interest in buying Bitcoin and are stocking up Bitcoin with sufficient planning. They are waiting for something good ahead.

You are absolutely correct, in any business or Investment in life one should always set a target or goal before any other thing but setting a goal and target sometimes is not what matters the most rather what matters the most is you working persistently and very hard to achieve that goal or target. I totally agree with you because one are not ment to embark on any business or investment without having a proper plans which is based on the budget, which is the starting points of every investors or business man, so if I'm to relate having budget or goals, that means my major goal should base on my target of allowing my Bitcoin portfolio to run in a long term, which i know that is that very easy to hold for so long but with the target i have such investments or business it will surely encourage to be patient enough with my Bitcoin portfolio to be able to archive my goal, so any investors that fail to plan, plan to fail with his/her Bitcoin portfolio and end up regretting later run.

I think you’re a bit off your statement, buying and investing in bitcoin should be on a consistent basis and holding for a long term, and I don’t really know what your reference of buying and holding for a long term means to you, when you’re saying that selling when the price goes up, and I think you’re confused considering your statement, you can possibly invest for one circle, but if you learn that isn’t enough you can actually decide to hold for over a decade or two circle, which is quite affordable like some guys who are here appreciate holding for a very long term, I think you should learn and understand how this works and you can possibly learn more from listening and learning more on this thread, how to invest and hold for a long term, and it’s not about selling when you come across a profit which isn’t sustainable.

We have to plan the work in advance based on what we want to do. Now if a builder wants to build a big building, then first of all he has to plan how many flats he will have on each floor, how many rooms will be in each flat, how many washrooms will be there, etc. After making these plans, he will make such a drawing that will give him an idea of how many square feet each room will have or how many square feet each flat will have.
Again, another person will dig a pond, the person who digs the pond does not need to think so much like that builder, but he can start his work according to how deep he will measure the area of his land and how much planning is needed for any work. That is, pre-planning is necessary, but how much planning is needed for any work depends on our work.

Hello dear, have you have about the emergency funds? How about the discretionary fund? If you have then I don't see why you should be worried about feeding daily or medical bills cause you should know that even while investing on Bitcoin an investor should have an emergency fund set aside for health bills and settling utilities and bills for daily expenses shouldn't be an issue too

 Maybe you think the investor should just use all their income to put into Bitcoin but that would be very silly, maybe you don't know that the discretionary fund is what is used to invest in Bitcoin and it's gotten from some percent of your income generated on different intervals, I think you should do more research to know the right funds to be apportioned to different activities.

in my opinion, it’s not a mistake. by doing this, you are increasing your amount of bitcoin. if you know when a dip might happen, you can sell some or half of your bitcoin before that. but if you sell without knowing and it leads to a loss, then it’s your loss. everyone wants to increase their bitcoin holdings because bitcoin is digital gold. if you can save it now, you won’t need to look for an income source in the future. if you have any early warning signs, then doing this is a good choice.

In fact this is not just a mistake but rather this is a trader mindset and thinking and how will you even know that the price of Bitcoin will dip in some time or period and then after  selling, hoping to buy when it Dip that time, who told you that is how Bitcoin works? Even though i will want to agree with you that not all investor can hold their investment for a long-term, I will appreciate it if you understand that such investor may not have followed th right approach to accumulate their bitcoin consistently at ease, there are approach an investor will apply then it will be easy for him to hold, as an investor you should be able to figure out your disreationary income, this is very important, you don't just invest with everything,you invest with your discretionary income to enable you invest without any problem, I mean the money left after you are done with all your expenses, I mean the money left after you might have attended to your needs them you can use such amount to invest with this habit you won't have any issue or anything to worry about.

First of all, I want to say that if a person plans, then it is definitely possible for him to invest consistently. People do the things that people need, but they do them, and just to give examples, I have brought medical education or food, but I have not compared investment with these important things. Secondly, you may have misunderstood another thing, which is investing in Bitcoin with the entire amount of income. No one will give such advice or say such things, if an investor invests with the entire amount of income, how will he run his family or how will he spend the incidental expenses for the family.

You sound confused Albert David .  You say buy for the long term but sell when the price goes up.  That does not sound like buying for the long term to me.  

How long do you consider to be long term?  and how much profit do you want to have when you sell the bitcoin you bought?  When you sell are you planning to buy back at a lower price?  how do you make any progress in building your bitcoin holdings (for the long term) if you have goals of selling when the price goes up?

There have been guys buying bitcoin for years and their profits are 3x, 5x, 10x, 50x, 100x, etc etc.. depending on when they got in and how long it might have had taken them to build their bitcoin position.

Some guys can build their bitcoin position in a short period of time, such as less than a year, but most people (who are really long term), it may well take them a couple of cycles to build their position, with each cycle being 4 years.

It's very important to stick with your target no matter what Bitcoin price is. Like if you are accumulating at current price of 109,000$ and your target is Bitcoin price of 500,000$, then you need to have control over emotions when Bitcoin hit 200k, 300k or even 400k. We have recently seen few instances where Satoshi era wallets have sold there Bitcoins at staggering high rate of 120k$. The point to be noted is that these whales have not sold there Bitcoins at 10k nor at 50k but they waited for Bitcoin to touch there target price.

I’m not keying to the idea in this statement because for me it’s very contradictory as to what the goal of a true bitcoin investor should be. No doubt that every investor seek to make a significant success of high ROI, but that’s not to say that bitcoin investment guarantees profit making and at such people should come to bitcoin investment with profit making mindsets especially quick ones. Why did you say we should be careful when investing in bitcoin for long term? The people that are suppose to be so careful are short term investors and traders, if you are planning to invest for long term, their is nothing to worry about, just buy your coin and hold, to be at a safer side, make sure you make use of DCA strategy when investing. I know everyone will definitely sell when the price goes up, but not that you going to be monitoring the market, and when you are in maybe 10 percent profits you going to sell, if you can do that, then that means you are not holding planning to hold for long term.
