For many of us, 1 BTC is a lot of money, so most of us would choose to take that 1 BTC instead of risk it for 5 BTC. It's a smart thing to do... and I am sure that we would make a deposit right after that and gamble with some lower stakes.

I am not sure how much money I would need to have to risk 1 BTC to win 5 BTC... maybe 100 BTC or even more, so risking that 1 wouldn't be a big loss in case I lose the bet.

I am a gambler but also not stupid.I will take the 100% chance of 1 Bitcoin and out of it I will play max 0.25 Bitcoin to satisfy my gambling needs and stop after that.That second option may look much better but you have 50% chance and since I studied mathematics in university I learned that 100% is better than 50% no matter the value of 50% may be bigger.For me it is better a sure thing rather than gambling for x5 of that sure thing.

I know this is just a hypothetical question thread but what do you mean by "with a chance of 2 to 1"? Do you mean that I can either get 1 btc or 2 btc if I chose the 5 btc after gambling it? if so, wouldn't the 5 btc be the best option since there was no mention of the possibility of not getting anything if you chose the 5 btc?

It seems to me that the OP is one of those who post here because they are paid but don't actually gamble. There is no sense in what he says as he puts it.

But I'm going to assume he does make sense. In terms of EV, the 5 bitcoin possibility is more profitable than the bitcoin in hand. If we take the statement literally (which would be impossible in reality) that every time I try to win 5 bitcoin I win twice, i.e. 10 bitcoin, obviously this possibility has a higher EV. But let's assume that he meant the opposite, that every second time I try I will win once, and I only have one try. In other words, I have a 50% chance of winning. If I take the bitcoin I get 1 bitcoin, but if I try this bet, the EV is 2.5 bitcoins. Therefore, the second option is also more profitable.

So I would particularly go for the bet but I understand that for people that 1 bitcoin can solve their life, they would not risk staying with 0 for the possibility of winning 5 bitcoins.

I'll choose one Bitcoin without playing, gambling is a game of chances and luck. It doesn't matter how good of a gambler that you're, when it isn't your day you're going to lose all the bets that you're playing and therefore you'll be losing both the 1 and 5 Bitcoin. I can't also stake my chances on the fact that I'm going to be able to win the 5 Bitcoin if I gambled. For some individuals, they can be lucky and win the 5 Bitcoin but there's no assurance that it's going to happen.

I will take the 1 Bitcoin and hold until Bitcoin gets to a new All time high or trade it for more profits through buying low and selling high. I have some wisdom when it's about trading and I'm confident that I can multiply my 1 Bitcoin to 5 Bitcoin if I trade consistently for some months. Trading is better than gambling as trading depends on the skills that you have gotten from learning how to trade regularly.

I will not trying to choose 5 btc and playing gambling because I can be greedy and lose all of that 5 btc in a shortly. It's enough for me to feel greedy in my past so I don't want to have it again and lose all of the money. But some people, they will risks that 5 btc to playing gambling because they thinks that with 5 btc, they can places a big bet and have a chance to wins big money. As per the OP case, we can get 5 BTC by gambling and it is not guaranteed money. So why take the risk when you can get some amount that could change your life forever? Those who are already very rich (may already have some bitcoins in their portfolio) may not be willing to take 1 BTC and may take the risk in the hope of gaining 5 BTC. However I would call it greediness and in most cases, the greedy people end up getting nothing.

Of course with great confidence I will choose 1 BTC. I am a moderate investor. I would rather invest in coins in the big 100 than try new projects. So if I was in the situation you said I would choose 1 BTC, then trade on the exchange or futures to make a profit. But if it was about gambling then I would also stick to 1 BTC, then try a few games, and leave myself plenty of BTC to spend. Getting 5 BTC sounds really good. Why did I have to risk losing the 1 BTC for 5 when I can just walk away with it?

To be honest the answer I gave above can change depending on my current situation - some things could influence my decision and I'll just go for the 1 BTC and something can also affect my decision then and I'll just decide to take the risk and gamble to get the 5 btc - according to the popular saying “ the more the merrier”.

If I was given that choice, I would take the 1 BTC and not play, I would prefer to use the 1 BTC to invest in some physical business in the real world and when the business starts making profits then I would go back to playing with small amounts of money, this is because While I used a small amount of money and lost at the casino, the next day I would make a profit of more than 10x the amount of money I put into the casino to play. Under normal circumstances, if you are given 1btc, you should thank your stars for such opportunity because that's $70k we are talking about. Now, the one chance you are talking about, what kind of bet care we betting on? If I'm given opportunity to make a prediction about an outcome of a match, I will give it a try but if it's a casino game, I will not even think twice before accepting the 1 Bitcoin because there is high chance that the game might be tweak not to favour you.

Giving free money? 1 BTC we are talking on here then there would be always a catch but of course these are what if's. If its really that free 1 coin then i would really be definitely be taking it out
without any questions but i do agree on some points by other people that for those people who are really that a pure gambler then they would really be definitely be considering on taking that
5 BTC and would be playing out of it. We do know that not all people would really be getting a hold of 5 BTC on which they could really be able to play on. If on the said agreement would be allowing on getting the amount or winning or profit for that 5 BTC game then it would be enough for those gamblers to take up such risks.

The more the merrier, I think I will definitely go with the 5btc besides there is no specification on the particular amount of games to be gambled on so I can choose to gamble it on a very low odd, maybe something like 0.5 goals not even caring about the odd.
