If we are both talking about the same thing, then No. I have never gambled in those gambling spots, though I have seen them and I have also pay attention when people to there and gamble. Those are usually common in small towns on in popular neighborhood, away from downtown of the city where it is always busy and full of people doing other things.
Also, when comes to the behavior of people while gambling/betting, according to their age, I would say it is very dependant on the culture they are from and also the relation they have with the other people they are gambling with.

OP I call relate to your storyline, the game this order men play the English name is Draught, it's been an ancient game that has been played by generations. Basically the game is more of a calculated one, where you focus at every point to know the next move that will be taken by your opponent, so it requires silence and calculative disposition while playing it.

For young gamblers that will be playing it, I think it's more of their youthful exuberance that always influences their resolve while they are on it. Some Young people will ordinarily want to make noise and cause apprehension when they are in such situations,  however it's not all, because some young people of these generation don't really fancy the Draught game too much, unlike the online casino games and online betting that they majorly engage more on.

Is that strange to you? They have nothing to lose at this point and treat the game like a social even which is why they stay there so long laughing and having fun. The game gives them something to do.
There's no tradition of gambling in my country so there are no joints like that where old people sit and have fun. They do it in parks and they often play cards or chess there, but it's not gambling, rather a friendly game. I've once done this with horse race and I would tell that the excitement, thrills, and enjoyment is incomparable to what you get now when you do online bets. This is what I have the most. I experience going to traditional gambling spots, including cockfighting and horseback riding, but what is remarkable to me is that in my country we have a traditional place called "Perya," wherein it's like an amusement part but more traditional. There you can see different games for kids or adults, and it also includes gambling games. The most popular is "colour game," which is somewhat similar to Russian rollete.

In this colour game, you have a table where you put your money in a colour you think will be shown in the 3 dice that will be rolled. The majority of the colour in the 3 dice will be the winning colour, and if you have the right bet, then you win 2x of your bet. But I have one experience that I won in that colour game, but I heard this phrase "balato," or in English, meaning people are asking for a share of your winnings, which I hate the most because it became a norm in our country, but I don't want that thing. At first, the game you mentioned is an adult game and is being played by mostly old men but sometimes they do quarrel and create unnecessary noises too but in a more matured way, it's only few young guys that are involved in playing this game and one thing I don't like about people that plays it is that it takes their time and hardly for someone to leave that game and attend to other things. It depends on the person on how they react when they gamble but I guess there's a common reaction every time when we're losing.

As for those older people that have been gambling a lot of time, it's mostly about the experience and just having fun but the thought of recovering some of their losses is also there.

I do make fun of my own bets and personally, I find it entertaining and if I am losing then that's another way to convert that moment into a good one.

Draft is just like other indoor games such as scrabble,  Monopoly, Chess and others. They were primarily designed for entertainment and not for gamble but some people do side bets with it just like they do with anything that involves competition.

Draft should be one of my best games and part of what kept me busy during this Easter holidays.  It is popular in my neighbourhood too and just like you rightly stated, there are some aged people who are in the habits of using this game for side bets and due to their age, it now appear that draft is a gamble for old men. We are often chided to be toeing the wrong part for playing draft using some old men as example. I just laugh at them because those saying those things do not know how entertaining and mentally engaging draft is.

I love draft game infact it has been my best game from childhood. it gives me joy and happiness when I play it, even when am hungry I don't think of food. all my concentration in to find a way to be crown as king. even when my parents will prepare food I would not even think of eating my food, except I am defeated by an OG and yet I will still stand behind and making mouth that if I am given another opportunity I will win even when I know it is not possible, that is why I love the game. though I haven't gamble with it because we where afraid of gambling with money then, if not our parents will want to kill us as a teen-ager then. draft game is a fun game, when you talk about the real fun then draft is the real fun.

It's very unfortunate that I no longer see some traditional games being played in our country, but I remember like 40 years ago, same with the images being posted, it's a local board game that everyone gather around and we will see old men playing and most of the time it involves money just for the sake of having some fun. And then cockfighting as well although in the pandemic become well known.
