Hello, I get some crypto-related newsletters, and sometimes they are good ones to reply to, but does it count as plagiarism if I copy-paste those messages here since I can't state the source via URL?

Bitcoin mining is now a specialized and very risky industry, just like gold mining. Amateur miners are unlikely to make much money, and may even lose money. Bitcoin is much more than just mining, though!

If you can can’t state the source as a result of not being able to get the link, you can add the new letter here under quoting. If you don't just copy and paste it as your work but you add it as a quoted text, then it's understandable to many that you are not claiming to own the work.

Another thing is that even if you can't quote a link, you can always reference that particular newspaper, the title, and the date on which it was published. Many who can find it can go back to it.

You can can quote, with or without an author name, and / or a specific source link.
Quote

Quote from: worldofcoins

It is better if you can have a source link in your quote but without a source link, it is acceptable because putting it in a quote block means you announce that you are not an original author.

Is it ok to post the URL to the article/newsletter after posting a few lines of article/newsletter without quoting?
Or should i post after quoting and stating the URL to article?

Thanks.

You can, just like this thread Article from Coindesk. Are Bitcoin Developers Losing Faith in Lightning?

I recall back there was a thread that the original poster didn't post the original source, but he wrote "Credit to theymos" or "theymos said" without quoted the messages, IIRC the user didn't get banned. But in order to be completely safe, just post the original source.

If the URL is long you can use the forum hyperlink feature to add the description I once used to check more here word on the description of a very long URL of the article, some permalinks are that long especially if it is not WordPress-based where the hyperlink is descriptive

You have to quote to tell readers that it's not yours but coming from the article, anything that you borrow online and you are copy-pasting, should be quoted to avoid plagiarism, this is my take on this.

If you want to avoid getting banned for plagiarism, that's enough. But it's not pretty, and looks like a loophole on the plagiarism rules.

Quote
Or should i post after quoting and stating the URL to article?
That's much better, so it's instantly clear you're quoting. I prefer this:
Quote from: An example
My example

Code:
[quote="[url=example.com]An example[/url]"]
My example[/quote]

Regardless of the position of the source, as long as you give credits to the content that you share then it’s not subjected to plagiarism. Even by adding “credits to the rightful owner” if you don’t know the source assuming that you only found it on someone post is enough to avoid plagiarism.

Plagiarism is crime which is using other content without giving credits on it or simply owning the content. But if you are just sharing it and mention that it’s not yours is already enough to avoid plagiarism. This is my take on plagiarism here in the forum but I maybe wrong. Please correct me if my thinking is not right.

It is considered as plagiarism, unless you post it with quotes with some reference.
There is usually a link in articles like this to open new page in web browser, but you can always take a screenshot of that newsletter instead of copy-pasting the text, or post a link to the website that is the source of newsletter.

Yep, nobody is going to give you any trouble as long as you make an effort to convey that whatever you're quoting is from somewhere other than your own brain, if you get my drift.  The people who get banned are the ones who don't provide any indication that they're using someone else's words.  Follow _act_'s advice and you should be alright.

If you don't want to quote, Superscript1 is your friend.

1 - https://www.dictionary.com/browse/superscript#google_vignette
And if you want to put in the effort to make your quote really pretty-looking, do as Vod says.  Either way, you're not likely to get challenged for plagiarism, much less banned for it.

Some people are lazy to do external research that is why they end up making the offense of copy and paste (plagiarism), if not if one can do proper research before making any post here it will be well organized and there will be no plagiarism involved.

For such lazy people that cannot read and create their own content based on their understanding, there is a chance to quote the content he is referring to in his OP but should make reference to the quote using the original post link to avoid been banned from the forum.

Do you understand flow of plagiarism work?

Posters must do research, scan around to find content and use it for plagiarism. They can not have anything to copy & paste, ignore source link if they don't do their first step, search.

I prefer to say about the flow. They do proper research to find contents for their posts but they only ignored original authors and tried to steal intelligent works of others.

You can choose whatever format you deem fit for understanding, but the key point is that proper presentation and organisation of work earns more credit/merits, anywhere and mostly here where we get to read inorder to comprehend what any OP might be trying to relate to the audience.

A quote is better to present such crypto- related newsletter, if the words will in the end sound different if improvised on and also, the content in quote will show the originality of the content.
Many persons may not choose to or be patient to understand why you use the exact words from the site or mail that you got the crypto related news from, with the pasted the link below, because it may still qualify as a spam post or plagiarism to them or at worse, that one is promoting false information or in the case where I had similar issue, disinformation.

Some people are lazy to do external research that is why they end up making the offense of copy and paste (plagiarism), if not if one can do proper research before making any post here it will be well organized and there will be no plagiarism involved.

Exactly, unless @Hyphen(-) doesn't understand how the whole plagiarism stuff works, which I think he is supposed to know already. Plagerism is never done due to inaccurate research by a BTT user. Plagiarism is usually done on purpose, when the user is already aware that what they are doing is to steal another person's content and probably do some word filtering to just make another person's content look like they were the original content owners. Just like you already said, they take away the name of the original owner and pose themselves as the real owners, which is an action practically done on purpose.

If there is no link to an actual source, then you just mention that the information originates from newsletter X and put the quoted part in quote tags. Or, if you incorporate the quoted text in a sentence, use quotes and italicized text with the source information at the bottom of your post. By not doing anything of what I just wrote, you are making it look like it's you who is saying those things. And since that's not the case, you are plagiarizing.

Instead of just copy/pasting something from another source, why not add your personal opinion on it? Write your thoughts and whether or not you agree with what you read. Explain how you understood it and if something could be improved, removed altogether. Just copy/pasting the information without anything else looks like a low-effort post.

You can quote it instead. Also you can let people know that it is newsletter email. So far it belongs to another person or company, it is not yours and you have to reference it. Some newsletters have a link for full details while the email will only just be for the briefing.

This just the direct and short answer to this question your comment speak volume I'm heart. That reminds me when I was in primary school our English teacher told us that any thing one is taking from another place which is not person work must be in quote, referencing your source is very important it make people no that actually your not the rightful own but only slighted the work, this is different from copying and paste as long the quote is involved it already tell the reader you got the work from another source. And such is permitted in why writing a book or any publication quoting is never a crime or plagiarism .
