Why do some people hide to gamble

This thread also makes me think when I started to gamble on the internet, specifically on Freebitcoin, Stake and other casino I don't recall the name.  Even though I was over 18 years old back in this days, I tried to keep my door locked so nobody in my family would walk in and find me playing Dices or blackjack, among other games.
If you ask why I did such a thing, then I could not come up with a simple answer, I guess when someone starts to gamble, there is some sense of awareness one is doing something which is not advisable, but it could also depend on the upbringing I had (I went to a catholic school and whatever).
Later, I was started to grow up, I learn it is better to disclose that kind of activity to our family (in the case gambling is completely legal in the country), it helps to reduce the chances of becoming a gambling addict. Sometimes people overestimate the degree of stigma parents have on us. Fortunately, my family wound judge me for that, though, I still keep some of my specific wagers in secret (I don't give details), and my family won't ask much about it, as long as they know I am doing okey.

It's easy to answer, many people says it's easy to do evils but hard to do what's good, and I could say while you start gambling newly you have also thought that gamble is a bad thing that's why you have to luck the door so someone from your family will not see you gambling, gamble is not bad to me but if I see someone who has become addicted to it, I would think that gamble is bad for only that person. I have also keep my wager as secret from my friends because I stake more than them some times.

You are right that gambling is not bad but excessive addiction to it is definitely bad. The main goal of addiction is to drive you beyond your means, causing you to be deprived of everything from family. In this case you don't always leave yourself to fate because you have a sense of what is good and what is bad. Yes, you should keep your wager matters a secret to yourself because if you lose, you won't be ashamed of it and if you win, you can have a party without talking about the wager.

I kept my gambling habit to my relatives but my wife does know about it. It's not a secret to her because I always love to be honest so she would let me do it as long as the money that I use is my own and will not jeopardize the budget for food, bills, mortgage, and other stuff that are needed to be bought.
It works well for us and we do have a peaceful home. Actually, it's better than keeping it a secret.

This question is valid and common, anyone will definitely have a different reason hiding their gamble life from the public. Honesty with your wife about gambling is significant. It takes guts, and its the right call. Trust is essential to any relationship, especially marriage. I've seen many scenarios, and lies shatter.

The highlight is utilising your own money. You're not jeopardising family money. Thats smart. Very smart. Many people lose sight of that and let hobbies or vices harm others. Everyone always has their own reasons why they prefer to keep their involvement in gambling activities a secret, but what is certain in my opinion is that it is likely that they do not want to get a lot of criticism from the people around them due to their involvement in gambling because as we know that usually the general public as a whole holds a negative viewpoint on gambling because of the significant adverse effects that gambling can have when a gambler has entered the addiction phase.

I was walking down my street this evening I saw some group of guys in a hidden corner of an uncompleted building playing WHOT games ordinarily I felt they are just spending usual time as friends and that they are playing the WHOT game to keep themselves busy while discussing.

Yup, people always have that interractions with other people and they value their opinions especially those who are surrounding them, they wanted to make sure that they don't have any negative comments or any criticizm though not many still practicing this kind of mindsets, as the growth and development of gambling industries are already flowing all over the over, most of those who are still caring about opinions and criticizm belongs to those religious and rural places where practices still in-line with the old beliefs.

Hmm yes there is a point, if for example their country does legalize gambling activities then maybe it won't be a problem if someone doesn't hide their gambling activities but I think in the end it depends on themselves because it is possible for them to use everything as an excuse why they prefer to hide their involvement in gambling. I will give one example, when you don't hide your gambling activities from your environment, especially from some of your friends, maybe when you want to borrow money for whatever reason, then I think your friends will most likely make it difficult for you to make your wish come true. Even though you are actually borrowing and not asking for money, there will still be doubts from your friends or they will suspect that in the end you will not be able to pay it.

Actually gamble is legal in many countries but in some countries and some tribes there are people who don't consider gamble to be a legitimate things that's why most people essentially the young ones that just reached 18 years will gamble hidden so that their parents will not know that they are gambling. I keep my gambling habits secret from my parents for just one purpose, so I think those that hide their gambling habits have a reason for that.

You are right, but on the other hand, in countries that have given permission for gambling, there will always be gambling activities that are deliberately hidden by the perpetrators, they hide it not without reason.
First and most basic thing is that not everyone will like gambler, after all in family it is not certain that gambling activities will be well accepted even if they live in country that has legal permits for gambling.

Ridiculous possibility like what? The reason why some people hide to gamble is when they are either hiding from their kids or their spouse or any other human factor that can stand as a threat to their gambling lifestyle. When I was a kid, my dad would always warn me towards one bad habit but I never listened to his warning, any time I am doing that thing he warns me about, I make sure I hide. That is what some gamblers do.

True, and from some of the points that you said regarding the reasons why someone hides their gambling activities in my opinion more people make the first and second points as reasons, namely because the country does not legalize gambling activities where if they are caught engaging in gambling then they will be subject to sanctions whether it is a fine or prison, and the second is in terms of age, even though for example their country legalizes gambling for its people but if for example they are people who are still underage who are not yet eligible to be allowed to engage in gambling then obviously usually they will prefer to hide their involvement in gambling.

Another thing is that I will also not rule out another reason which is the fact that someone who hides their gambling activities could be because they do not want to be known as someone who has a bad personality in their environment which will make them ignored by others in their environment and make them experience some problems in terms of building socialization relationships with others, especially the people around them.
