What exactly do you think we call this type of gambler? For he is not only addicted to gambling, but he seem to be also addicted to buying stuffs he obviously does not need, and absolutely not interested in..

Again, alot of money can be made through gambling if one is lucky, but it also can destroy the person if he or she does not, or fail to control him or herself..

I prefer to believe in the first option.

The fact is that no one can get rid of an addiction at the level of severity that he has reached. Seeking professional help is essential and the support of family and friends would certainly help him a lot to keep his mind off the addiction between sessions with the psychologist.

Taking up other hobbies, such as music, is an excellent option... learning to play a new musical instrument would take up a lot of his time and is certainly something enjoyable.

Anyway, anyone can quit an addiction, they just need to have the will, seek professional help and be surrounded by people who help them move in the right direction.

Well I heard almost the same stories happen to everyone heck even myself know the feeling I am also ex-Degen hahahha. I am go all in in ICO IDO and some community ventures in total maybe 10K back in the 2021 and lost all of it because the bear market. All my coin/token that I invested before have gone puff and some of the founders are missing. All hard earn money gone and now I am start from zero again.

Yes, you are right, almost everyone has such a story, when it was not yet clear that holding altcoins is a very bad idea. Only deposit the amount you can afford to lose. A very old piece of advice but it just boils down to that simple task that you need to follow every time you want to gamble.
