This is a RE-ELECTION. Things must be working out well for this town. We should test it out ion every elected position in government. I mean, if we don't need them, why spend the money on them, right?

He will now be serving his third-straight term as mayor of Cormorant, according to WLWT.

He is so adored in the small town that no one even ran against him.

"I don't know who would run against him because he's done such great things for the community," said Cormorant resident Karen Nelson, according to Detroit Lakes Online.

Duke won his first election three years ago and is expected to run again next year.

things are so absurd nowadays in america, they even have a dog mayor now? what else next? are they going to have a cat governor lol. but i think that it doesn't matter, as long as the dog becomes a good mayor. even if he doesn't do his job well, the residents will forgive him because he is a dog, rather than having a human mayor who acts like a dog, it's better to have a mayor like that lol.

It seems this news is actually outdated. The dog was elected to a ceremonial position (that probably means he does not actually have any position of power, it could be rather like a ceremonial thing for honor a person, or in this case, an animal). Also, this lovely dog (named Duke) has already passed away, according to the Wikipedia page in English I found.
To me, it would seems this was actual news back in the day and for whatever reason, some webpage decided to recycle the news for the sake of making the country of the United States to look foolish in the eyes of the people of the world who are not willing to check on the authenticity of whatever they read on the internet.
Even thought, I have seen even crazier things on the internet than a dog being given a honor position. We are going through times when we are not supposed to trust all we see on our screen...

In 2014, a Great Pyrenees dog named Duke[a] won the annual election for the ceremonial mayorship of Cormorant. Twelve votes were cast.[1] He won his fourth consecutive term in May 2017.[5] Duke died in 2019.[6]

CBOYSTV, a popular YouTube channel, is headquartered near Cormorant. The channel sometimes uses the township for meet and greets.
