Why People Naturally Chase loses in gambling.. based on my habit people chase loses is simply they want their money back it also happen to me in my previous post that I talked about playing in crash game with double amount of money after losing or people use to called martingale strategy.

It is automatically in some people after they hit big losses in a single bet or after lose streak and it happen quick hahaha. That is why there are a dozen of thread that discussed to not chase a loses in a gambling

Hi everyone,
Here actually is my finding on why people chase loses in gambling, do you know that it's natural for a gambler to chase after his or her loses? Well, if you don't know, now you know, it is natural in the sense that ; the desire is inbuilt, it is we ourselves that learn to put or subject the desire to our control, same way it is natural to feel bad when you lose a bet, but you can be happy if you choose to, and can control your emotion.

One of the reason why many gamblers naturally chase after their lose is due to one thing that is built into every game known as the "near miss effect", after every loss, a near miss effect makes our brain believe that a win is very close, and this automatically makes the player to keep playing and playing, even while he or she is losing, his or her brain convinces itself that a jackpot is just around the corner, this makes the player keep playing until he or she discovers that his or her bankroll is empty, this is when anger and regret usually sets in, you begin to feel like you were not really yourself all that time you were gambling, like you were hypnotized or something, and you only regained consciousness of yourself when you have already gambled all your money away.

This has happened to me few times, and from it, I've leant to always be conscious of myself and my decisions while gambling, making sure I do not allow my brain to deceive me into believing that my losses is because a win is around the corner, making me to gamble way more than I've planned to.

So, from your own understanding, what do you think makes people chase loses aside greed which I believe many of us are already familier with?.

I too have similar experience and what I've felt is I have learned my lesson after a few disastrous rage bet. I won't blame martingale as there's a strategy and max amount you are willing to lose. When you are rage betting, you don't necessarily calculate martingale and put in and bet anything you can at any odds.
Once on a rage bet, not only I lost my crypto balance but also deposited all my savings. After the first time I lose it all, I had decided not to bet again, I started again, lost another large amount on rage bet but this time I controlled myself when I lost all my crypto balance. I might have done more rage bets but I had better control on myself after losing the gambling balance.

So, from your own understanding, what do you think makes people chase loses aside greed which I believe many of us are already familier with?.
I'd say the feelings we get while gambling, and we're not always aware of our winning/losing chances. Others can't always suppress their feelings while playing and it's easy for gamblers to get caught up and make some of the worst decisions like rage betting during a losing day. While playing, we forget that it's easy to lose everything and start to realize what went wrong after we've lost it all. Most of us also lack the consistency to control ourselves and it's why it starts to become a cycle.

But not only that, why gamblers naturally chase after losing because they feel that their self-esteem is lowered when they lose - they just don't believe that they can't beat the game and can't get the jackpot from it, so they try over and over again until they can get what they want. This makes many gamblers keep gambling, because they think that they can get the jackpot if they keep trying with various strategies, even though the opposite is that their chances of getting the jackpot are very small and in these attempts they lose more and more of their money.

It is normal for a gambler to try to catch up on previous losses. They want to get the money they lost in gambling. It makes them keep returning to gambling and find it difficult to control themselves.

There is a desire to continue trying to recover their losses and by continuing to gamble, they think they can get their money back. But actually, that only increases the number of losses even more. They shouldn't try to chase their losses if they can realise that.

That is why we really have to be able to control ourselves well when gambling. Otherwise, we will find it difficult to recover from that defeat and will instead suffer more defeats. Gambling is just for fun, not to make money or recover losses.

This is all true.

"Near miss effect" or we saw one roll that is near making us win. One example is in slots when we need 4 "free spins" and then in our previous roll, we get 3 of them. It makes us believe that getting the free spins is very near and we just have to roll more rounds. But most of the time it won't end up that way. It's mostly a trap to make us believe it is near.
After I saw that kind of event when I play slots, I changed my strategy. Jumping from one slot to another no matter what the result will be. Let's say I get x100 in one spin, I would not even dare to go for 50 more spins just because I won the first time. I might take 10 more rounds but I will never go as far as depleting all the profits in one slot game. I'll switch to another game, try 20 rounds there, and then repeat it until I get a lucky big multiplier.
It had been successful this past few weeks. I got x5000 max win in Lab Lunay and then I got x3000 in RIP City too.

Near hit or near miss, although they can be differentiate, but I think for a gambling it is almost the same. The same feeling that let's say in a slot machine, you got 2 of the bonus round features and so you put more money because you wanted to experience what the bonus is.

And so there is that psychology that this slot operators put in their machine and then gamblers are going to be attracted to it and as you described as like being hypnotized and wanting to play over and over again and you don't have any control of yourself. And even if you lose all the money, you are still not satisfied and will continue to deposit until you hit that bonus round.

So, from your own understanding, what do you think makes people chase loses aside greed which I believe many of us are already familier with?.

Chasing of losses by gamblers is quite natural to those of them that take it as a source of income, because if you are actually gambling for fun, you will definitely gambles with money you can afford to lose, and if in the process you fall to win, even though it ten times in a row, you wouldn't actually be bothered because that's a money you can do away without, but if you are gambling with money you can't afford to lose, that is the major reason of not just chasing losses, but it's the path that leads to addiction.

So in essence is that, if we can be able to gamble with only what we can afford to lose, we wouldn't have to chase losses in the first place, because in gambling, the more you chase losses the more you lose your hard earned money, so it's best we only stake what we can afford to lose so that we wouldn't be in  that space in the first place.

People love to prove they are right. This applies to everything. If you think you can say more to be heard, you will strive to do so. When playing games and building your strategy, you think every time (although in reality, this may not be the case) that you have luck at the end of your tail. The desire to win back is a kind of proof to yourself that you are on the right path. However assessing mistakes takes quite a lot of time, and passion most often does not give space for time.

In my opinion, gambling is always associated with greed. If we didn't have greed, we probably wouldn't have any interest in gambling anymore. However, what we need to do is control our greed, don't let greed control us. Controlling greed by always keeping it at a moderate level helps us not get caught up in the game but can know when to stop.

Most gamblers let greed control them, so they often appear aimless with their decisions, just playing and playing. The more they lose, the more they play, and the more they win, the stronger their greed becomes and makes them play more. Controlling greed and not following it is a long process that requires experience and loss. When you lose enough, we will naturally understand the power of acceptance and moderation.

The odds of winning a multiplier are fairly low. So when you double the odds in attempt to chase your loses, well, you've just made it twice as hard for you to win. Or, if you double the wager, you are going to go bust twice as fast. There is really no way to chase your loses without losing everything. You're just going backwards and eventually bust.

Just play for the fun of it. That's why "Don't gamble what you can't afford to lose" is a saying.

This is true. Many gamblers, after losing a huge amount of money from one game or even just any amount of money, will attempt to play again with a higher stake or a higher multiplier, hoping that they could recover their losses immediately, which is in fact a mistake that should not be done. Because you are right, what if you lose it again? then you are making your problem even bigger, and if you still don't stop, a gambler will keep on playing because he or she is caught in the trap that he needs to recover the loss because he has lost quite an amount.

I experience that also, where I keep on playing because the money I lost in my first game is very important, and because I want to recover it, I get caught in the trap, caught in the loop, where you will keep on playing and playing because you are hoping for a recovery win, but truth be told, it's the opposite.

You are right, that near miss is a factor. In fact, a losing factor that has made more gamblers lose than win.

The near miss syndrome is synonymous to one game making a gambler to lose his bet in football bet and he feels because it is just one match being the obstacle from winning his multiple bet and then the next bet will be his winning chance and he keeps trying and seeing the next game to be closer to his jackpot until that frustration actually set in.

Well, it is about our emotion and the ability to understand that every game and bet is new, different and can bring it own different result.

This has happened to me few times, and from it, I've leant to always be conscious of myself and my decisions while gambling, making sure I do not allow my brain to deceive me into believing that my losses is because a win is around the corner, making me to gamble way more than I've planned to.
in games of luck, I'm sure things like that are normal for gamblers. like today we lost, maybe tomorrow we will win. and we will come again tomorrow to bet.
Isn't that kind of thinking what makes gamblers unable to escape their gambling activities? I believe chasing defeat is not something we can call greedy. when we lose of course we want to get it back.

We all know that gambling has something that we can't name that can make someone keep going back to gambling even if they lose.

So, from your own understanding, what do you think makes people chase loses aside greed which I believe many of us are already familier with?.
Another reason could be that he uses money that he cannot afford to lose, so he tries to recover it even though it seems like a waste of work. Indeed, if he is lucky, it is possible to recover the loss, but does anyone know when he is lucky or vice versa? of course, no one knows other than trying to play while hoping for luck and it turns out otherwise, the greater the loss experienced, and there is also a high level of confidence that he can take back what he has lost so there is no reluctance to lose even more, and in fact, almost every gambler have done that and the results could be different, but it would be better to return to playing not to recover losses but because you really want to play.

What could make people want to chase their losses? They can't afford to lose the money yet they proceed ? I think they are the type that wanted to turn gambling into source of income, it suits such people even more, don't you all think?

As crazy as this sound many people still gamble everyday to make daily income, and naturally we all struggle to control our emotions, what will these people do when they are trapped? Because eventually they will be trapped since  they are always gambling every day.

Gambling is the last thing you want to do everyday, the lesser time you spent gambling the better, because of your emotions sake and your mental health, do you know why people cant control themselves even after setting a boundary in gambling? Because they spent too much time doing it, that is where their mind will start encouraging some nonsense idea as if the next win is around the corner.

Imo for a lot of people it is really hard to accept that they aint that good as they think they are. They keep on doing the same and failing (loosing) over and over again. I think the same idea is in many gamblers mind. I have lost? No way. Let me try this again. And they keep betting again and again. Add to these mentioned above greed factor and we a possibly true answer on the following question.

So, from your own understanding, what do you think makes people chase loses aside greed which I believe many of us are already familier with?.

I believe it’s a natural reaction of human to get back what he lose since they are attached on the money that they lose even though we keep saying to gamble only what you can afford to lose. This is the reason why casino is a thriving business since it’s a natural human behavior to chase what is lose while gambling games will gives a sure loss to players.

That’s why it’s important to gamble only for entertainment purposes to avoid being attached to the money being lose since you will surely aim to get it back on your next gambling session whether you like it or not since it’s your money.

I don’t consider it as greed alone but an attachment to the money especially if it’s earned through hard work of labor.

And all in the mind though, I mean if your decision is not clouded, then you know that you should stop right away if you lose in gambling. But as what the OP describe, there are games that really test our psychology, like the near missed effect. And for sure everyone had that experience in any games that we played. Even in sports betting this also exists this kind of effect to us. So we wanted to go back again and try to test if we are going to win or not. It's not about the greed, it's more on if we think that we can beat system because we "almost got to win".

I'd say it is a basic instinct of gamblers, that's why it is natural for gamblers try to chase their loses in gambling.
As long as we do it responsibly, there is nothing wrong to chase our loses in gambling.
Responsibly here means that we should aware that there is still no guarantee that we will be able to chase it so chasing loses should be done realistically and responsibly at the same.
For me, it is better to forget what we have lost before (although it is hard) but I believe it is better for my gambling habits so there is no chance for me to force myself to chase previous loses and become out of control.
