If we're going to search on the web, there have been cases of match fixing and it really involves players. One of the hottest recently was with the NBA and for its Toronto Raptors player - Jontay Porter[1]. His life changed overnight when he's given a sanction by the league for being banned a lifetime, that's painful as a professional basketball player and that's his bread and butter and then with a bet that he did was betting against his team. This is also happening in esports (Dota 2), too many cases were found guilty and the same sanction for many that have been involved with it.

Anyway, for the biggest match fixing issues in the history. This is an overview[2] of it.

Match fixing do exist but the conspiracy theory that FIFA or league operators favors a team and fixes to make a team win is most probably fake. It's a conspiracy created by crybaby fans who can't take a loss. I'm was too not a big fan of VAR but they have greatly reduced the chances of error from referee and had made the game more fair. It's like the cheaters complaining about the CCTV on the examination hall. There are negligible controversies due to VAR decisions.
Match fixing by teams and officials and spot fixing by specific players can't be 100% denied but they likely no more exist on top tier games as the risk are higher than reward. Even if players do it for large amount of money, it's hard for them to hide and move. Son Heung-min is the star player for Tottenham and Manchester City confirmed the title on that particular game. It's no surprise for a coach to shake hand with opposition player specifically when you have won the title.

I think you could have drawn your topic with sentence relating to VAR like, is VAR aiding match fixing?. This is because this topic is no longer new on this board. Match fixing has been discussed alot so spicing yours up with VAR would make it more interesting.

However, for me, I don't think VAR was introduced for match fixing. VAR is the technology that was introduced to aid some irregular play and to stop cheating on the pitch and this has actually reduced to bearest minimum.

I believe everything is possible and match fixing isn't an exception or something to writeoff from it , especially base on the fact that it involves money, there is always going to be a manipulation of the system somehow to try to make things work in the favor of the fixers, but how they organise or do it and it work m out if at all there's match fixing, this is a question that needs an answer, if someone has an idea of how it is done

It really does exist especially with small leagues or tournaments wherein such thing is easy to imply. Been heraring instances that fixed matches are also evident witg big sports organization like in boxing and in NBA but for sure it would be difficult to have access to such information if you're not a "big" individual  Most likely, agreements happened internally if this is just true. Personally I'm against this kind of scheme even if the scenario is that I would be given a free signal. Why? It's totally unfair to other bettors. Many people are losing big amounts because they rely solely with their luck. I used to have doubts if match fixing existed and I've argued with several friends who's team drew or lost a match when they feel they deserved winning and then they begin to claim with their own facts that the match was fixed. My point to them back then was that there are bodies governing football who try as much as possible to make the game very fair for every team and would not fail to call a referee or other officials to order and discipline them if they figure out they're involved mixing or payed to fix a draw match. But since the introduction of VAR I've seen and I currently belive that match fixing do exist the number of mistakes made by VAR for the past two seasons, especially in the EPL would make one believe so. In some match instead of the VAR to help the referee make good decisions, they even kick against the referees good call and do otherwise, well I won't be surprised if players are involved in it as well I'm not quite sure but some people are unable to resist bribe, especially when given an offer they can't reject.

Most probably there's no significant issues like that, that's only speculations from sport betting fans who's desperate to win. That's cheating to players if they're doing that, but it's in the system and actual game match won't be altered based on my opinion. Also you can see the line up match, then there's no way to manipulate these team set up on significant game matches.

Yes, this is a real problem, but I believe that the biggest culprit for manipulation in games is not the entities that organize them, but rather the players (mainly from smaller itme) who benefit financially by doing or not doing a certain action in a game.

A sad index is that Brazil leads the world ranking of games suspected of manipulation, here we had 109 possible cases of games manipulated in 2023 when one of the biggest manipulation schemes came to light and also the fight against this type of fraud by the police authorities who discovered the main fraudulent scheme, arrested some people and fined many others.

Outside of Brazil, the Czech Republic appears in second place on the fraud index with 67 suspected games in 2023, followed by the Philippines (65), Russia (55) and Greece (46).

I do believe on it but there's a catch. It doesn't happen mostly on the bigger leagues and you'd see them often goes on with the smaller leagues or with the unpopular ones. They're prone to match fixing and that's why if you ever want to avoid them, you need to choose the sports and leagues that you want to bet because you'll never know, that small league that you're going to play YOLO and bet on them is already a rigged match. But here are just our opinions and we don't have proof but gut feels of most of us says that it does happen.

In most cases, we will only hear rumours. Even if some of them are true, no one can give a solid evidence that the match is being fixed. Also, if you are very familiar with the performance of the athletes inside the field, you will have your gut feel if they are really under the spell of match fixing.

There can be cases that have found solid evidences but us here discussing it, yes we can't provide evidences to prove that there is. That's why those cases that have been proved that there were fix matches can be our reference to say that they're happening.

In bigger leagues, it is hard to arrange this as a lot of people are focused on them, and people will see if there will be change of movement of that athlete. They will see it clear if people are closely following them.

There can be some arrangement but it shouldn't be noticed. There is bigger pot in the bigger leagues and that's why I don't believe that fixes aren't happening there. We might not just notice it or they are making it not obvious at all.

Yes, it's very common in the lower-tier sports leagues but of course there are still happening in the higher ones, its just hard to identify and to believe that such event really happens.

A friend of mine was introduced to a Facebook group that shared fixed matches and had a great overall winning rate.

This something hard to believe but its not impossible as mentioned. Is the sharer of those matches are different? Or the same person in every sports or what.

Well, match fixing does exist, I mean, I personally believe in it's existence, and it can be very profitable too for those who have the right connection to getting genuine information on this type of matches and betting on them.
But however, fixed matches is not something, or a practice that is common on the international football league, or in any other sporting events, fixed matches are more common in local sports league, most especially those type of matches that is usually not aired on TV, or streamed online.

And concerning the game between Manchester city and Tottenham, I wouldn't consider that match to be fixed in any way, what happened between that Tottenham player and the Manchester city goalkeeper was nothing other a mistake from the part of the Tottenham player, and luck on the side of the Manchester city.
Most of matches that are fixed are usually not aired or streamed, and most of the time, it's always in local league do I usually see matches the looks like they are fixed.

Like the others, I also believe in match-fixing only up to a certain extent because i've seen it becoming more common in the competitive scene that I bet on. Still, it takes a while before these cases are proven, and even though it feels like some players perform like they're fixing we shouldn't always assume it's true.

It's easy for players to make mistakes, they'd sometimes have a subpar performance that could cause some suspicions, but I doubt that players at the highest level of competition would risk the career they've built only to fix certain matches.

March fixing is real. If you are reading sport news very well, you will see how some managers are caught for match fixing and we're punished for it. I think the punishment is that the manager would be banned in sport events. Although some can get lighter punishment but not often.

I actually don't know what happened on that match Manchester City against Tottenham team. And I will also say that even if that match wasn't a fixed match there are also lots of records for match. And in Some incidents players get paid for that and there was some news also that players are blackmailed by the mafia for doing match fixing.

That is not match fixing at all. Manchester City is better and won the match.

Let's just say after watching some documentary relating to match fixing on one of these large TV stations, I think I do have a conscious that it exists especially in these lower leagues but not entire believe in it... But if you think about it, some of these players that know of gambling and do some kind of underground betting can fix a match with an outcome going in their favor... Say for example a yellow card or player facilitates a loss of their team and players do get caught doing such which leaves that impression that match fixing does exist.

But match fixing of a football federation, man that is risking of football to a whole new level unless not governed by the likes of FIFA then that explains their greed of fair play.

to answer the title of the thread, yes, I believe in match-fixing. the most recent case of match-fixing that I know of is Jontay Porter from the NBA, if I recall correctly he got a lifetime ban for betting and trying to fix his team's match by deliberately making poor performance during matches.
