The great thing about these step satellites with small buy-ins is that they allow players without a large bankroll to qualify for a major tournament and, with a little luck, even win something. It’s worth noting that it’s not just your poker skills that matter here, but also sheer persistence. In other words, the more often you participate in these satellites, the better your chances of eventually making it to the target tournament.
Well, poker skills also play their role but surely the ones who take part in such tournaments again and again often understand that how those tournaments works and then they can always reach top positions in those tournaments. The best lesson is to have patience, and never give up, because the ones who keep trying often end up winning one day than those who don't try at all.

It looks like something big is coming up on CoinPoker. According to their announcement, the Global Online Poker Championship will take place on their platform from August 23 to September 28, with a total prize pool of $50 million. A unique feature of this tournament is that there will be three tournament schedules to choose from, tailored to different time zones, which I believe will be convenient for many users.

A lot of games & leaderboards, medals, prizes.  But I doubt that anyone from here will play, most of those GTD games last too long... we are talking about some serious playing. I can barely find some time for casual poker games that last around 3h, and it's similar with many other players from here.

Well, it will be interesting to follow some news from this Poker Championship... maybe someone will post some highlights & interesting hands. That would be good marketing...

I also think that no body from this forum will play that GTD but still it's fun to watch the ones playing. They've allocated a huge pool for the players and the top 10 players of the tournament will take good enough money that'll have power to change their lives. CoinPoker offers multiple tournaments and they've some free rolls where a player can earn $5 to $1 by reaching top 10 ranks. It's not easy to play too long in Poker, in some tournaments we've to play for 2-3 hours but in some a player has to play for huge duration.

This is how poker tournaments are structured in many popular poker rooms. If a tournament has a large prize pool, the blind structure will be deeper. If you’ve been playing poker for a while, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that a single tournament can last 8-10 hours if it goes deep.
As for freerolls, to be honest, it’s better not to waste your time on them. Freerolls can only be interesting if they’re a step tournament (satellite) where you can win a ticket to a bigger tournament.

Dwyane explained... I played "big tournaments", but I never made anything. I guess the hardest thing is to stay focused & disciplined after hours of playing. A few times I lasted pretty long, but at some point, a few wrong moves and all the hard work is ruined.

Freerolls are just for fun & entertainment... fast blinds push all players, and it's just pure luck to survive many all-ins to get in the money. There's a bit of playing poker on the final table, but not all the time. When it comes to satellite games, that's different... but I'm not a fan. I don't like to play for tickets when I know that even if I win, I can't find enough time to play, and I will probably suck...

I enjoy the free rolls and sometimes I play free Poker on coin poker application to improve my skills but it's true one shouldn't expect much from the free rolls however they're good to improve your skills and that's how a real tournament can work. I know players at free rolls take huge risks but that's the fun if you get good cards then take risk.

Let's say if you get pair of Aces or pair of Kings then it's okay to take some risk as you won't lose anything because you spend nothing to be part of the free roll. It's just a fun experience to be honest. I agree with iv4n the hardest thing is to stay disciplined for long time during long hour tournaments.

I won $2.5 entry tournament at another Poker site got around $108 as top 1 in that tournament, but it took more than 3-4 hours to win that amount. Hope in future I may become part of high value tournaments, meanwhile I'm working on my skills to make those better overtime.

Well, if the tournament you won lasted only 3-4 hours, then it was probably a turbo tournament or something like that, where the blinds increased pretty quickly.
By the way, in major tournaments, blind levels can last up to 2 hours. For example, in last year’s WSOP Main Event, the blind levels were exactly two hours each. The tournament itself lasted 11 days (from day 1 to the final table), with players playing five levels, or 10 hours, on most days. In my opinion, it’s really hard to maintain discipline over such a long period in tournaments like these, since this format is extremely exhausting. On the other hand, the prize money in such a tournament is impressive.
