Recently I encountered this scam attempt on Facebook.

1st - I liked a Facebook page on Facebook, which this Facebook page is a content creator that talks sometimes about Cryptocurrency, especially Bitcoin.

2nd - After some hours, there was already a Facebook account that added me as a friend and messaged me - which is kinda impersonating the facebook page account that I just recently liked.

After this, this impersonator blocked me immediately  Cheesy

Be careful everyone, especially if you are commenting or sending reaction to some post on a Facebook page (I think this is what happened to me)
Because there's no way that you can see the list of accounts that liked the facebook page recently, but on some posts, you can see who commented.

I believe this is only not happening on Facebook but also on other social media platforms also. Which is some scammers impersonating some popular accounts.

Be careful everyone, always verify and check. It's difficult to trust anyone on the internet.

Yes almost all of social medias if you post/react/comment, the next thing youll see is a message from someone related to the topic of the one you posted with. This approach is majority on telegram where if you ask the admin about certain inquiry which involved a problem about funds. Someone will message you posting as admin (fake) those guys are not real admins as they will not pm or chat you even though they got verified account dont trust those cause they will lure you to something bad thats the nightmare if you entertain those.

Thanks OP for alerting us in this community, because scammers are using different strategies to scam users funds on social media these days which it will be difficult for you to trace them to recover your funds back in the community, which is a bad habit to such scammers. I don't use to respond on any cryptocurrency thread on social media either Facebook or Whatsapp for security reason, because I have heard many stories how users have be scam through Facebook cryptocurrency group chat that made them to lose their funds to scammers. Assume you continue doing what they asked you to do in that Facebook cryptocurrency thread, I think they would have succeed in having access to your crypto in your wallet, because they have many things they will be sending to your Facebook to convince you.

Telegram is the worst likee, I hate it when i ever an issue and such services recommend their telegram group and this is the reason I'm annoyed with Bitget and will always be cautious about any exchanges having their maim support system there.

I see that they don't actually care about their customers because they are taking them to den of scammers to fixed their problem and wonder how many have actually fallen for such scams though while still being aware of it, I hate it because it's annoying speaking with scammers

Be careful everyone, always verify and check. It's difficult to trust anyone on the internet.
Facebook is field with lot's of people that aren't real. The rate of impersonation that's happening in Facebook is increasing at an alarming rate and all of those are geared towards scamming gullible minds. I've had series of cases when I get messages and friends requests from strangers I have no connection or mutual friends with and I just leave it there and don't even bother to accept them. I feel that if you pay attention to them, you will easily know which account is real and which isn't real. I don't know how easy it is for someone to just come up to a stranger and initiate a business with you that involves huge amount of money when he has family members and close friends he could easily get involved with.

Sometimes I just use this mentality of f "too good to be truthful" to guide myself from these people. If what you're bringing to me as an idea is too good to even consider, I just snub you and run too far from you or even block you before you even go further to convince me. And more that this is not just peculiar to Facebook but cuts across all the social media platforms .

Like seriously, are you saying this ends with Facebook only? Because your warning advice should point at every social media platforms in the world today, no one is save from scammers trying so hard to scam someone.

I always expect so less from strangers as a person, if you PM me first I always have this weird feeling why you decide to contact, most of the time it is not always a good thing, people even family members will take advantage of you this days, its so sad.

You should get used to shunning strangers off your space, because they don't always have your good intent in mind, they are there to use you, or even rob you your hard earned money, since I've been in this crypto space, no stranger have ever helped me, the few that did are friends on this forum.

Impersonation of project teams and social mangers are very common online, be on the look out, every first PM is 90% likely a scam attempt.

I don't know this scam type on Facebook but on X, it is popular with many impersonating accounts.

After you follow an influencer's account on X, immediately or some hours later, there are one or some impersonating accounts will follow you. If you are careless, you might confuse between real and fake accounts and you will be scammed. They run impersonating accounts only to find victims and steal money.

Usually some basics to check like total followers, age of account will be enough to differentiate real and impersonating accounts.

This is normal in a lot of social media. There are too many imposters in all of the internet and they're just waiting for their prey to bite the bait. While that social media personality might be a real one, there are scammers and imposters that are waiting for some likes of that page and try to look out the likes of his posts.

While in telegram, after you join a group or channel, for sure that there will be scammers that will also try to deal with you. Not just that, you will also be automatically added to a group that they organize.

So, be careful to any platform and social media you use because they are there. This is the full time job that they've been doing.

No social media is entirely free from scammers but Facebook is the least media I can think of this type of things happening. Telegram and Twitter is the father of all. It's very easy to identify real accounts and impersonating accounts but due to some circumstances some time we pay less attention to the profile details until the unexpected happen.

I like how the media platforms are trying their best to limit cases like this by offering account verification to prove the real ownership of the accounts. The issue is too rampant in telegram and you will hardly see account with verification badge. Although, most Telegram Admins use to indicate behind their names that they will never dm you first, I wonder how people listen to those who massaged them first pretending as if they want to help.

It has become things of past where we come online to have fun and make new friends, now it's dangerous to welcome and entertain strangers online as they are looking to take advantage of you in whatever way possible. Sadly, you can tell who's genuine and who's pretending. Countless of unopened messages in my inbox now but I don't care to open them. If I don't know you, we'll have a limited conversation.

I believe this is only not happening on Facebook but also on other social media platforms also. Which is some scammers impersonating some popular accounts.

Someone will message you posting as admin (fake) those guys are not real admins as they will not pm or chat you even though they got verified account dont trust those cause they will lure you to something bad thats the nightmare if you entertain those.

On the Facebook, you'd get some notifications from pages you didn't even reacted to that you've been mentioned or reacted to your post.
You'd even get notified that you've earned a fan badge to you'd be required to claim it.
They're all tricks to make you feel valued and honoured while on the logic to redirect your mindset to be scammed as you keep following the page.

On the telegram, you'll see an anonymous disguising to be an admin by creating similar username and copying the profiles of the admin.
So when a follower asks questions related to crypto currency, they're the ones to send you a dm pretending to be the admin and your inability to differentiate the similar profiles could cause one dancing to the scammers terrain of the scammer.
Definitely all the social media platforms are being flooded with scammers.

Definitely scammers, impersonating admin or dev, are everywhere waiting someone whom they can make victim and steal everything from them. Innocent beginner seeking help fall in their trap so easily as they offer them walkthrough/help and loose their funds. Telegram is one of them but you forgot about discord where one can get same approach from the scammer having same username like dev or admin. So one have to be more careful.

An influencer who sends a DM first is definitely a scam, because if they're genuine they won't do that.

In my experience, Facebook has never done this, but X and Telegram platforms often receive DMs where they can help you or win prizes and so we are tempted to claim or send a deposit first.

Now that there are so many scams on social media platforms you have to be careful they have a way to approach it sometimes it's very realistic to believe but it's a trap by scammers.
All incoming DMs especially from people you don't know don't have to be responded to anymore because it's definitely a scammer.

My approach to social media and the internet recently is that if I do not know you in real life or through a mutual friend and receive a DM from you you are automatically profiled as a scammer. And all I have to do is wait to read three of your messages for confirmation and to report, block, or completely ignore. From experience nobody with a large following on any social Media platform will the send you a message first and even when you send them a DM the most likely would not reply. So when an account with a supposedly large following sends me a DM then I know it is obviously you scammer.

Thanks, op for watching out for the community and warning us about these scammers.

But I think that your thread might be more relevant in the scam accusations board. You can move it there.

The first time you asked him if he was a cheater, he might have ended his discussion here before discussing his cheating issues with you. All the frauds that are done through Facebook, these frauds are usually account related, that is, they use this type of fraud to gain access to Facebook accounts. In this case, fraudsters have some objectives such as if they can access your account because of your information, then they will blackmail you that if you do not pay them a certain amount of money, they will post various negatives on your social account. They may tell you that they will do various misdeeds with your account and you have to take full responsibility for it. When the user is threatened like this, the user must pay the fraudsters anyway. Therefore, it is our responsibility to protect our privacy and we should take it very seriously.

Social media is full of scams and ignorant people who refuse to understand this fact are being scammed everyday, some are so naive that they will be scammed more than once before they get the picture that you don't trust total strangers on social media. You have to be careful even when you're chatting with the people that you know on social media because their accounts might be hacked, before giving out any serious information, it is important to leave the conversation and verify whether you are chatting with the right person because their device might have been hacked.

A few days ago, an old friend chatted me on WhatsApp, and was asking if I could do him a favor and transfer 100,000 naira, equivalent of $70, into an account, that he's having network issues to do the transfer from were he was. With my experience about online scams, I suspected that my friend's WhatsApp might have been hacked, I immediately called him and he told me to disregard the message, that his WhatsApp is hacked. Scammers are in Facebook, WhatsApp, telegram and the rest of them, so people must try to be informed about their activities.

Thank you so much for your information, though this is not my first time of seen something like this in the social media, this is why I have chosen to limit from most of the social media's platform. more especially this facebook platform because the rate of scammers in this facebook platform is very high, this is why we need to be extremely careful with the kind of group we join, and also we need to be careful with the kind of link we click because most of the scammers have been using that tactics to access our account so we need to be careful with those link so as to protect our account from being hacked by scammers.

New scammer  Grin

Face also not real I also found most of the people in social median special of facebook who increase their page and profile with same fake like and followers by bot and try to scamming with people.
This is never a new scammer or scam strategy. It just old scamming strategy used in a refined way that will make their victim have some little sense on trust in them.
Every just needs to be careful on every social media, the website they visit, and the application they install on their computers because scammers always come up with different concepts just to steal from innocent people.

Scammers are in Facebook, WhatsApp, telegram and the rest of them, so people must try to be informed about their activities.
Suppose a scammer manages to hack someone's accounts on social media accounts, steal a victim's phone, or perform SIM swapping. In that case, he can send such deceptive messages to the account's followers or the victim's contact list, as happened in your friend's WhatsApp story, or by spreading phishing links or sending malicious files, so we cannot believe everything we read, even if they are people in our contacts unless verifying it by calling or meet them if the matter is related to money and one of the important matters. A sudden request for money and a change in how your friend communicates with you will certainly raise suspicions.

Frankly, Facebook is like the rest of the other platforms and communication applications where scammers are active. They impersonate accounts of public figures and promote their traps through advertisements. Therefore, every person must be cautious before taking any action and take enough time for sufficient verification, investigation, and research.
