Error Message: Topic Deletion and Access Restrictions

When a topic is deleted and a user clicks on it from the Telegram notifier, this is the error message that appears: "The topic or board you are looking for appears to be either missing or off limits to you." I understand the first part, but the second part, "off limits to you," got me thinking. Is it possible there are topics that have restricted access to some users? I haven't encountered anything like this since I registered on the forum.  Or are the administrators planning for a time when there will be certain topics that would be restricted to some users?

There are actually boards that are restricted or off limits to some lower members of the forum. Example is the serious discussion Board and its sub board the ivory tower board.

- You must be at least a Jr Member to post in Serious Discussion, and a Full Member to post in Ivory Tower.

Reasons why you must have not experienced such is maybe because you don’t visit the board or didn’t visit this boards when you were below the restricted ranks

Option 1: When a topic is deleted then it is not deleted entirely but it is moved to the trashcan. We as a regular user do not have access of the board Trashcan.
Option 2: When you ignore a board then you will not see a topic posted on that board.

As per my understanding, when any of above one is true then you will see this warning message.

To the best of my knowledge, I don't think there are topics that are off-limit to some users, but what I know is that there are boards that are off-limit to some users and lower rank, I guess. An example of such a board should be the investigation part, which is a subboard under scam accusations. I stand to be corrected if I'm wrong. So topics created can be off-limits to some.

Simply put; off limits to you means some Calibers of people might be able to see the post but for you a regular member, you are limited to see such post.

Admins, etc can still see such post but it has been removed from a public part of the forum. I think it's a regular feature on Simple Machine Forums (SMF).

Put a board into maintenance mode, allowing only admins to login.

So if a post is off limits to you it means it's either in a such boards accessable by Admins only, especially Recycle bin

This mostly happen when you're trying to following a link that was initially visible to users/guest on the forum or deleted already by the moderators.

IMV if a board is off-limit to some users then the topics under it will also be off-limit, it's just a parsed trait

We have investigations board that can be accessed only by members and above.

There's also a board for VIP members and there's another board that is visible only to moderators.

Most likely: someone posted a link to a thread that was "deleted" to your telegram channel. When a moderator "deletes" a thread, they are actually moving the thread to a special sub-forum called "trashcan" that contains all the threads that have been removed by moderators for various reasons. The "trashcan" sub can only be viewed by members who have moderation privileges.

Anytime you attempt to view a thread in a sub that you do not have the required privileges to view, you will encounter the error message displayed in the OP.

Anyone can view the Ivory tower board, there are only restrictions on who can post there.

This is partially true as you can still see the actual topic thread when you access it via a direct link/url either from another thread, via pm, etc. You cannot see the topic only on Show unread posts since last visit., recent posts and other forum pages' list of topics.

When a topic is lock or moved to archive then you don't see that topic again from your end. I have encountered several post like that but I don't panic because I know that it's either worthless post or a post that is posted in a wrong section that holds no any meaning to it so, I don't get myself disturb or if I insist of knowing about that same post then I will go view the user profile through ninjastic.space to see the content of that post.

This means that the thread has been moved to a place you don't have access to. It could be in sections such as Donators, Staff Forum, Trashcan or removed completely.

Actually "move to Trashcan" and "remove topic" are two different actions which moderators choose. That doesn't necessarily mean the deleted thread is in the Trashcan.

Do not be such naive! If you have been using the Telegram notifier for a long time which I think you have been doing, such messages are common when a mod deletes a topic. I am not sure why you as high high-ranking member of the forum think his spamming the Meta board will not be questioned.

When I initially created this topic, I thought it was a silly question to ask. How could I have known that there are boards that only the moderators and VIPs have access to but are off limits to other regular users? I never could have thought that there was an invisible board. Thank you hosseinimr93 for the link you provided it answered the question. Yes there is a special board for the Staff. Another one for the VIPs. And maybe other boards, but I don't have access to these ones .

I would sleep tight! In the meantime tell everyone your story behind creating a topic that I am sure you were already aware with an answer. Please do not shy away when I am asking you a genuine question. Please answer me as to why a telegram bot question with a simple answer was being asked by you on an important board that is meant for serious questions about the forum. Go to sleep mate because I ain't going to do now what you never expected.
