Oil discovery is it a cause or a blessing?

It’s a good question but I’m not sure there’s really a great way to answer it. I guess it’s been both a blessing and a curse. On one hand it’s been something that’s helped mankind advance in ways that we would have never got to without it. On the other hand it has been the cause or pollution, war, and all sorts of negative things in that aspect.

Definitely a good idea to try and move away from it.

That's what we should do to avoid the outcome that OP is predicting - oil wars. Oil is only a half-measure. It should be treated like the finite resource it is. It's supposed to sustain us for a while and allow us to build an industry that is based on renewables and can sustain itself. One of those infinite sources of energy is fusion combined with degradable energy cells. Another is hydrogen since we can produce as much as we want, just can't do it in a way that's efficient enough to be cheap.

It's great that we have oil, but we should start conserving it more and we're actually doing that by adding alcohol to gasoline to reduce the demand.

The too many uses of crude oil in the society have made it to be a gemstone that everyone will love to have and control over them. The wealth that resides in crude oil cannot be overemphasised as it is termed the only means of some country to still be alive and striving today. Crude oil has brought about the richest nations today and what they boast of, it’s important that this resources don’t get to the wrong hands to avoid it being mismanaged. Also in the hands of those with leadership powers, it’s important they don’t use it to enrich themselves and focus on how to develop the nations better than it is. Those rich nations used them well to their advantage and are now enjoying the sacrifice they did several years ago.

Oil discovery is basically a blessing, all resources do. However, weak economic performance of some oil rich countries indicates that some of the blessing we call natural resources became a curse. It describes how countries rich in natural resources were unable to use that wealth to boost their economies and how these countries had lower economic growth. The term used for this is "resource curse".

The answer is in both ways, it could be a blessing and it could be a curse, it depends on the leadership of the country. This is where creativity and leadership come in. Good things in the hands of bad people will never be allowed to show their goodness.

I must agree that long lasting ineffective behavior and also corruption are considered to be one of the major causes, figuratively natural resources are not always a curse, natural resources can increase high economic status for countries with efficient economic performance and strong institutions.

Great example would be UAE where the distribution of large oil revenues in the form of social and economic infrastracture, social services, education and health has raised the standard living of UAE citizens. UAE also has a business-friendly environment, with effective public administration for their control of corruption, a major example of avoinding the "resource curse".
