Clarifying Ban Evasion Rules: Input Needed

Hey everyone,

I'm a little confused about what counts as "ban evasion". From what I understand, if someone gets banned on an account, and then they use another account that they own to get around that ban, that's considered ban evasion, right?

But this other user, "unlimitedmoneygenerator" (lol), is claiming that I'm spreading lies or propaganda and that ban evasion only counts if someone creates a whole new account. I'm not fully sure, so I thought I'd ask for your guys' input.

What do you all think counts as ban evasion? Let me know in the comments.

If sockpuppets refer to alternate accounts, the only alt attached to UMG, is 'GluttonyY'. This is your confirmation. And the intention of this account, is not to avoid reputation, from the UMG account.

The better news is that GluttonyY is now permanently banned. Perhaps due to the multiple stupid unsolicited PMs. The other account could get permanently banned too, any time they decide to post from it.

Without ruling out that he may come back with another account, it is time to lock the thread. He may be watching the forum and I think we should not give him more attention than he deserves.

He does. UMG was previously inactive for days while GluttonyY kept being online [presumably tempo-banned], UMG's account is active today. But that wouldn't shouldn't make much difference, like logfiles said, anytime he decides to post from another account, be it UMG or other account he newly created, excepting a ban appeal, the account should be and would be included in the ban.

The UMG account is only on a read -mode as he's temporary banned for 7 days.

Igeh, simple curiousity and would appreciate if you can peek into it... did UMG got tempo-banned again? He's been silent for two days [which rather unusual for him] and the silence coincided with ditec_wrogn pointing out [a point that I shamefully forgot] about his posting on other thread is a ban evasion.

I am not sure why mods are talking long to ban the user, since it's a case of ban evasion, but I am certain that his account's days are numbered already. There is a lot of proof that his account has a connection to an already banned account.
Worst of it, he adds zero value around here.

Logfiles, it would only be ban evasion, if there was another account created.

The mods purposely, left, UMG, being aware, of the current situation.

To the best of my knowledge, you are correct. If an account is banned here on Bitcointalk, it's typically not just the account that's banned, but the person who is operating the account is banned from using the forum unless they appeal and mercy is served.
 
If not, any other account being operated by the same person is automatically a ban evasion offence. It does not matter when the account was created, as long as it's still being operated by the same person.

You and op are actually correct. It clearly stated there on the Bitcointalk rule [25]

25. If you get banned (temporarily or permanently) and create a new account to continue posting / sending PMs, it's considered ban evasion. The only exception is creating a thread in Meta about your ban.

If a user is found using another account (alt account) after being banned from the forum, it's considered ban evasion. In this case, the user should not come back to the forum or create a new account. As long as the same person operates the account, they will face the same penalty if caught.

However,  there're lot of users guilty of this ban evasion  because the rules only work if such account get caught and linked to account that was previously banned ... but the rule is strictly used so prevent your account from getting banned by following the rules

Ban evasion = you as a person are no longer welcome on the forum. You cannot make a new account and be fine, if you are caught your new account will also be banned. UMG is just a troll BTW and you should prob just avoid conversations with him as he doesn't listen to anyone, just spouts a wall of bs at anyone who replies.

OP, I second this and that's basically the only answer you need to your question--once you're banned, you as a person cannot participate on bitcointalk.  The only thing you can do is appeal your ban in Meta using an alt account, but that alt account can't be used for anything else.  If it is, it'll most likely get discovered sooner or later; I've seen it happen enough times to know.

And please, if you're satisfied you got the answer(s) you're looking for, please lock this thread.  Otherwise you're going to get a bunch of semi-literate peabrains paraphrasing what yahoo62278 wrote (or worse, give you incorrect info).  Thanks in advance.

I have looked into the saga and indeed UMG is evading ban. Have you tried to report his currently active account to the mods for ban evasion yet?

There is this thread. You can make full use of it to report ban evader and then report to the mods for action. The mods are more lenient in the recent times, but I think they will ban that troll.

You referenced mprep's post and you are still asking. Rule 25 was written in a clear language and even parenthesis was used to further explain the rule. So, you were not supposed to argue with a troll over the issue and let alone creating a topic about it since you are aware of rule 25.

OP, the troll has finally been Permanently banned. Under the ban evasion rule, this implies that if one of your accounts gets permanently banned, the alternate accounts are also likely to get banned should you make any post outside your ban appeal thread in meta (evading ban). If you don't make any additional post after the ban, they may not get banned too.

I understand that some trolls are given some leeway in defence of freedom of speech but this is a toxic guy who contributes nothing, insults, breaks rules, etc. I hope he doesn't come back to the forum. Yes, getting all kinds of answers to circumvent bans is possible, but those who defy these bans come to destroy the balance of the forum because those who defy bans come to this forum for good. They don't do good themselves and can't see others doing good; that's why they think so. As they come to waste time, they are to waste other people's time in the forum.

If he returns, we'll notice him right away. It will only be difficult to notice him only if he repents being a troll. But that would be a difficult job for him to do because it's part of him. If he stops being a troll, he would not enjoy here because he has nothing else to offer. What sustained him this long was the buzz and attention he was getting from users.

I don’t see destroying the balance in the forum with this ban people trying to evade it because they are just spreading nonsense which that lead to another ban. You will not be affected if you don’t consider them as sane user.

Just ignore them or report to the moderators and let the mods the decide. Answering them or having a debate with their twisted logic will just fuel their trolling. This guys will stop if we just let the mods deal with them.
