Hodl! simply means buying and keeping your bitcoin for a very long period of time for it to appreciate in value because that is the only way in which you can make good profit from your bitcoin based on the size of your portfolio.

Every profession or sector has its slags or jargon that makes it unique. Bitcoiners also have theirs which distinguishes them from others. I don't care what people think about the terminologies I use in discussing or writing about Bitcoin. Any interested newbie should be willing to learn these terminologies instead of critiquing them. A moderately enlightened individual at least knows how to use search engines like Google to learn about these concepts.

There is no need to change these unique words since they make the Bitcoin sector unique. I am even an advocate for the introduction of more coded words to enable me to communicate with fellow Bitcoiners in a language that others can't decide easily.  I think you should join the crusade of teaching people the meaning of HODL instead of championing its change.

Don't mind too much about the word, term, whatever in theory or in text. The matter is what you do with your money and in this particular case, with your investment in Bitcoin?

If you can hold your bitcoin, can have good strategy for your investment - from capital management for entry, plan for holding it like how long, and plan for take profit, you are all good no matter you're saying "I am holding bitcoin" or "I am HODLING bitcoin". It is not a matter of importance for your money.

I still have not been able to understand what the op is trying to pass along. Is he saying that those who use the word hodl are stupid? Because that makes no sense. It's literally a thing in the crypto space and it has a history that has already been proven why the word hodl was used. I really don't see the use of this thread and what it's trying to tell us. If some one is so sacred about investing in Bitcoin he shouldn't at all. Not everytime your investment would look good as expected. Does it really matter if one uses HODL or hold in his statement? Isn't it that as long as the person use the word in the right context and hearers are able to comprehend it that it has passed the required message?

Note that every sector or niche has its own jargon that doesn't always have to be what's the usual thing with the regular English. This is just like telling an electrical persons that the word Elect should be made obsolete and electrical used because "elect" is short or that a Cyber security person shouldn't make us of the word "L33t" but should rather use "elite" since that's what it normally should have been called. jargons is what makes word usage beautiful and that also shows that you're of a particular sector.

In my sentence, I do make use of both HODL and hold and it all makes the same sense though to be more specific and to show you're a core bitcoinner, using HODL will always remain preferable to using hold. This would have made more sense if your talking about people that use the word HODL to depict that you're holding on to dear Life which is different from the main meaning of holding as per holding Bitcoi, but if it's just a matter of making a comparison between using HODL or hold, whichever one you use is correct but to speak or write using the Bitcoin jargon, HODL is more preferable for me.

I have had Mail Accounts hacked before.  I have had my Google Account hacked before.  I have had my Windows XP and Windows 7 computers infected by Malware so many times.  Yet people still recommend having an Email Account, a Google Account or a Windows Operating System.

Tell me you know nothing about the Cryptocurrency status with out telling me.  Getting hacked and robbed is easy if one is stupid and does not care about their Privacy and Security enough.  Most of the hacks are Centralized Exchanges getting hacked and their Customers being the victims.  Have a Self Custody Wallet, Secure it and nobody can touch your Coins.

There's an actual story behind the word hodl which many people in crypto space accepted and created a meaning from it which is hold on for dear life. The word hodl is from hold and there's a guy who posted and explain what he wants to do and he wants to hold his crypto until it is time to sell but instead of typing hold but he mistyped it and the result is hodl which is now known by many people. Are you talking about crypto communities?  Don't worry about that reputation, the fiat community has a much longer history of such things. Crypto community is way back compared to the criminalities done by the fiat communities.

If you do not like the term, you can just ignore it.  Why mind other people's things especially the community already accepted such term?  The term hodl has been accepted by the cryptocurrency community and is intended for crypto community use to emphasize patience.

who cares what people think who are new to crypto when they hear "HODL"? if they think it is stupid, so be it, if they are curious about it, they can simply ask or just search about it on the internet.

Lol, and why would we do that, either way, still the same, you buy and do not sell for a long time, and it's a very effective method, not sure if you have tried it though. But there are a lot of fun on being able to hold or buy and accumulate and see your portfolio grow.
