I developed some gambling addiction and lost a good amount of money in it. I lied to my close ones about this and said it was an investment, and I lost it. They believed me, and till now I regret lying to them about this. But from that day onwards, I have tried very hard to control the addiction and gamble with taking a good amount of risk. I am sure many of us have lied not to develop any mental pressure on our loved ones. Hence, it’s sometimes okay to lie to strengthen the bond.

I gamble and did say something to avoid some conflicts because of gambling. But I didn't get to the point that I have a gambling disorder and enabled a fight with my partner or anyone.

I gamble responsibly and I won't allow someone to have a bad relationship with me because of gambling. In order for me to keep on gambling, there should be no affection in my relationships with people.

Apart from being a little irritated a few times after a losing streak, I haven't faced any issues with gambling that caused me to lie about my situation. I was never addicted to or suffered from any gambling disorders in order to hide them from my close ones. My partner is aware that I occasionally gamble, but it has never been a problem for me. Hiding things from your spouse, partner, or family is something I'm personally against; everything comes to light eventually, and you'll have to explain yourself.

I don't think there's any such disorder for me, since I started gambling. The only thing back then when I newly started gambling was that I had consistent fear of losing. When I place bets, I have this sudden heart raise where I become restless till the bet is over. Upon joining this forum, I became aware of casino online platforms where I would also gamble. I had same issue that again. But I later had to learn to take my loses and risk only what I could afford to loss. The truth is that gambling can create so many irregularities in someone, it now depends on how we are able to be in control of our gambling habits.

Gambling doesn't cause any disorder, technically its your own body does to yourself based on the results and circumstances due to the results. The only medically relevant thing is addiction which is psychological but comes under illness and doesn't happen overnight. So if you're having any discomfort and confuse that it's related due to your gambling habit then I advise you to stop doing that and make sure get yourself checked by a doctor cause there are plenty of underlying causes can result into this than simply assuming it's gambling.

Well I don't have a wicked gambling disorder. Although I don't see myself stopping it because I am a responsible gambler. I enjoy it but I also take if seriously. I won't be one of those that says they see gambling as a leisure in as much is fun for me.
But the disorder I noticed is that I don't take expert advice in gambling. I only go for what I have in mind. This way of gambling has actually helped me greatly and I have not had any issues whatsoever

A family member was surprised to see me with my computer in the early hours of the morning. If I told her that I was gambling at that time she would be alarmed and even think I am now an addict. Immediately I observed she was coming, I changed the programme to a movie I had opened before then. She came close, saw the movie and immediately asked me to go to bed because I would be having a hectic day. She knew I gamble moderately but that day was different because I was really enjoying the game and also chasing losses. But I had to stop chasing losses after a few days, so it was not a serious gambling disorder.  I have never had any health issues that are related to gambling that would warrant me to see a physician. Anxiety was my main problem but I handled it by gambling with what I could afford to lose.

I don't want my loved ones to be worried about my disorder like migraine, so I used to lie about it. Still, there was a time that it became unbearable that I had no choice but to tell them about it, so they could help, I control my addiction, those headaches or migraine are symptoms that something is not right and should be deal with before it become worse.

Backache and an increase in blood sugar because I was sitting for a long time but I soon managed it, there are dangers associated with gambling, and that is sitting to much; in fact, I created a thread about this here

Is it about ones personal disorder or the one we see on other gamblers, this have to be identified first, but whichever way, gambling disorder to me is not a good thing in which we should be allowed to lie about it, we have to address the situation as exactly as it is, we are doing this not because we wanted to make exposure of the situation on ground, but because we don't know we might have the cure that may tackle such disorder if they know about it, not everything is expected of us to be kept to ourself.

I remember maybe 10 years ago one female friend of mine got into a relationship with another person who I knew for a fact would turn violent and even steal petty items for his gambling addiction.

Every act of violence or theft he would commit would be petty but that doesn't take away from the fact that he'd do it for something as silly as gambling. So in turn I tried to warn her with very firm words I shared with her in private. I said it only once. Thereafter I didn't exactly lie, but whenever she would ask me I would withhold any further information. Because she didn't listen, I didn't trust her with this information any further. She spend years with that guy and found out many things the hard way.

Now she thanks me for my early warning but it took years for her to actually show appreciation. And from that day also I said to myself that if someone is a gambling addict, people surrounding it should do their best to take the seriousness of such addiction at heart otherwise I won't bother much if at all unless it's my 1st degree relative.

Sorry but I don't understand your last statement. Do you mean whenever you gamble, you don't want to have relationship with fellow gamblers or you mean as a gambler you don't want to have any affectionate relationship with people entirely. Whichever, gambling responsibly and being able to control the degree at which you allow the gambles to control you will be the best way ever to go about engaging in gambling.

Not many people have the capacity to withstand the addictive part of gambling because being able to do that comes with a lot of courage and dexterity. I tell my friends who find gambling interesting but not yet gamblers that, if you must join the game of gambling, you must know how to draw a line or limit to the level you will engage yourself in it.

So far I think I have not experienced any disorders caused by the gambling activities that I do, there are no health problems that I have experienced as a result of gambling and I am sure that it did not happen to me because I do not treat gambling too excessively, simply I usually only gamble when I want to and when I have the right amount of money and time to gamble.

But I am sure that some people who always act excessively like those who are now addicted will definitely experience many disorders in their lives where there are two problems that can occur, namely in their health due to gambling without a time limit which makes them have less rest time and the second is clear that their finances will definitely be in disarray, and the worst is when they have difficulty meeting their daily needs.

Any kind of physical symptom which could be the consequence of your gambling should be taken incredibly seriously, after all gambling should be just a way to get some entertainment and be a way to relax a little bit, and if instead you are getting the opposite reaction then it is obvious there is something seriously wrong, in my particular case I have never experimented something like this, but some people on the forum have posted about the different side effects they are suffering and they can be quite serious.

I lied to my parents about my gambling disorder because I didn't want them to know that I was involved in gambling quite severely so it was better to self-medicate by going to the doctor and not lying when talking to him.

Fortunately, there is not too much money involved in gambling, then this will not be considered a serious disorder so obviously it does not cause migraines just because of this problem which is clear that I am ready to gamble but not with big money and able to manage finances well.

Mental disorder no but bad habits I think yes. Drinking was a bad habit i got after consistently starting gambling and it came as a result of me winning most times while sometimes i need to be tipsy so that i can effectively gamble without a doubt. I know it's crazy that anyone gambling is relying on alcohol or other substances to gamble. However, it doesn't guarantee the wins in gambling but it helps to remove the fear or unwillingness to pick some odds that dont look like winning odd.

I haven’t encountered any problems or disorders yet and I think it’s unlikely that this will happen. It’s definitely not worth lying or hiding problems, the further it goes, it will only get worse. How many stories have already been written on the forum, and even in my life there was a friend who was very interested in games and I've tried absolutely everything, so I don't have examples of what to do.

So I've never lied to a doctor in my life, that's stupid. These people can't help you if you're being dishonest. What's the point of going to a doctor if you're planning to lie?
I've never lied to a spouse about gambling either. I'm not going to say I've never lied to her, but these were trivial things, for instance if I went to the place she asked me to, but I forgotten so I had to make up an excuse. That's normal, but I'm rather honest about gambling. There are situations I don't tell her about, but she doesn't know how much money I have, so there's a lot of so called wiggle room

I never had to because no one really asked or noticed that something was wrong with me, besides, the last time I had a gambling problem was years ago and I am sure I don't have that gambling problem anymore. also, lying to your doctor if it has something to do with your health is stupid, you are basically putting yourself in danger for nothing.

if it has something to do with health, I am not really sure, I've had back pain issues and poor posture in the past but it was because of my work where I need to sit for long periods of time and it had gone away ever since I started having sitting break from time to time during my work.

I lied to my parents once about my gambling. I was so scared that they would be disappointed, maybe even pissed off. I was worried that they would consider me to be an individual who took wrong decisions; this could, in turn, lead to some amount of ill will or lack of trust. Something like this was tough to keep from them, but I thought it better at that time than making them worry or angry.

It seemed like an easier solution to lie to my parents about the gambling when in reality, at that time. However, I would come to understand that hiding the problem only made matters worse. With every lie, the guilt would compound further and, consequently, make me feel more estranged from them with each passing moment. Finally, I came to the conclusion that telling the truth and seeking help would be a better idea than continuing to lie. With open arms, we could nip the problem in the bud together and avoid bigger negative impacts down the road.
