What are some must-read books on Austrian economics? I'm adding books to my Amazon cart, and I'd love to get your two cents. At the moment, I have Basic Economics of the great Thomas Sowell, and the Anatomy of the State by Murray Rothbard.

"Principles of Economics" and "Human Action" are must-have. Thanks.

Although not specifically about Austrian economics, The Road to Serfdom by F. A. Hayek is highly recommended.

If my new bookshelf doesn't have at least an F. A. Hayek, it'd be criminal. Have you read this?

After I read Saifedean's The Bitcoin Standard, I got curious about Ludwig von Mises. I cannot remember having encountered him in any of my economics class either in high school or in college.

Perhaps reading one of his economics books like The Theory of Money and Credit might give us interesting insights about his Austrian economics thoughts. After all, the man is influenced by Carl Menger himself, the founder of the Austrian school of economics. Mises also heavily influenced F. A. Hayek, his student.

I'm not very familiar with this lot but you will find alot of literature on the foundations of the Austrian School of economics if you are interested, found some online when I was browsing for books too. One of its ground texts is Ludwig von Mises' "Human Action," in which a systematic analysis of economic theory and the role of choice explaining market processes were introduced. Another book i know in this direction is Friedrich Hayek's work, "The Path of Slavery," which deals with issues of a particular system and as I remember is about relationship to individual freedom. Henry Hazlitt's " Economics in One Text" clearly and painlessly incorporates the principles behind Austrian economics, including monetary policy.

Great thread, bookmarking this for later!

While I've read a few of the economics classics I must admit I have largely neglected Austrian economics so far. Gotta second odolvlobo's recommendation on Hayek's The Road to Serfdom though! While it doesn't go very deep into Austrian Economics itself he argues very well for the importance of some of the core tenets that Austrian Economics represents.
